I'm watching it these days.
It's fine, pretty wholesome but not anything I'll remember for years to come.
Whether it's comedy or drama, I have seen much better stuff.
Still I'm liking it; I'm just criticizing the fact Apple is acting like they made the new Sopranos...

While I enjoyed season 1, season 2 is disappointing. The problem with season 2 is there’s still no story arc six episodes in. They keep on raising things then sorting them out all in the same episode, never to be touched on again. It’s as if each episode has been written by a different writer with only the barest conversation between them. It’s feels very much like second album syndrome or maybe they only really had ideas to fill one series.

First series was great. Clearly too many people got involved in the production of the second series with their daft ideas as it's been average at best.

I personally think the episodes are far too short. It felt like the last episode finally got going after 30 mins, then the end credits rolled. Annoying.

You are missing the point. Ted Lasso is not about the jokes, because although some of them are funny, as a non-native English speaker I don't understand most of them, but the show is much more about the positive way to looks at things than anything else. Truly something never saw before in television and it deserves to be highlighted.

"This award association just proves they suck, or are paid."

- and this proves my point. Maybe some kind of positivism could make you appreciate and respect other people's opinion. Cheers.
I wholeheartedly agree with this. “Friends” was a whole lot more about the jokes (laughing track every single line spoken, me personally hated it and find it a terrible show)
Although I do think the jokes are in big part a scaffolding of the show, I find it a whole lot more funny and natural the delivery of them because it conveys how the characters relate and communicate, Ted and Beard being the easy example here.

And the last episode aired, ended in a somewhat serious note. Having seen Scrubs before, that’s a trademark there.

Now, all the accolades, prizes and remarks… maybe it’s a bit too much, it’s no masterpiece either I think. Not yet at least.

I saw only the snippets on the last keynote, but I really despise this actor and the format. Funny? Not at all to me. Maybe I just don't understand what he says and the pun as non-native speaker.

I find apple series obnoxious.
Maybe try a few others, Defending Jacob can’t be obnoxious, feels like a normal HBO crime/legal one. Or the Morning Show, needs a few episodes to settle in, but it’s quite serious. Or maybe Physical might have a hint of obnoxiousness that strikes a proper chord.
Myself still got queued For All Mankind, but expecting it to be too slow.

I avoid all the Oprah’s/Eilishes/Mariah and other cliches and I can totally see why the whole front facing presentation of the service feels obnoxious and high horse at times, I was NOT ready to give any show a chance when TV+ came out… I’m glad to have lowered the arms a bit and gave a few a chance.

Personal experience .2c

Agreed, it’s fun to watch but nothing memorable.

Still, it’s one of the best shows apple tv has, so of course they’re making a big deal about it.

Considering how much of the script actually is promoting apple stuff, Im not so sure. Facetime, imessage, icloud pictures etc. Fine that everyone got latest possible iphone and shows it all the time, but some things are just weird

It’s very very obvious, it’s like how many Apple products can they cram into each shot. Normally this would really annoy me, but although I notice it, it doesn’t annoy me with Ted Lasso because I think it’s a genuinely good show.

It did annoy me when one (English) character referred to an aubergine as an eggplant in an episode though. No one British would ever call it an eggplant and I hate it when American shows patronise their audience, thinking that they wouldn’t be able to work it out through context (or just Google it). It’s very jarring for non-Americans when some British character comes out with something like, ‘eggplant’. Part of the reason it’s good is that it doesn’t generally do this too much.

Watched the Christmas episode last night - I'm not sure if it was maybe meant to be shown at Christmas and delayed for some reason (Covid?), but it was something that really didn't work well watching it in August.

I don’t think there’s been any covid delays that would have delayed the Christmas episode as season 1 came out in August last year. Agree it did feel odd watching it in August.

I wonder how many awards a given show would have if they wouldn’t keep adding new categories and subcategories based on live or animated or aired or streamed, etc.?

Season 1 was great and cohesive. Season 2 started very disjointed but seems to have gained its stride back in the last half of the season.

Is it me or does season 2 suck? It’s really not funny and seems too self-aware.
I do think that Ted's charm was cute in season 1 but seems to be less fun and wearing on me for season 2. Maybe because I am not a native English speaker and many of the subtle jokes are intended to be US-specific.

I love Ted Lasso both S1 and S2.

It's smartly written.

And the characters for the most part feel like actual people even if they are a bit exaggerated, this unlike almost any all sitcoms I've seen.

I love this show and I think season 2 is just as good if not better than season 1. The christmas episode was ***** brilliant. I guess hatters just gonna hate. Anyway, I want the world to be more like Ted Lasso.

While I loved Season 1 and can see why it gets so many nominations, I must say that Season 2, while entertaining throughout, perhaps shows a few spots of rust on the magic.

Agreed. The first 3 episodes didn't really go anywhere and the 4th Christmas episode was a terrible cheesy one off (Apple ordered it after filming season 2) but episodes 5 and in particular 6 are back to form IMHO. I think the conflicts now setup for the remainder of the season will make it pretty great again.

The christmas episode was AWESOME!...and the rom-com ep was great too. This show just keeps getting better in my opinion.

I think it's you. Ted Lasso is just as funny and charming as it ever was but it cannot spend as much time on those things because it needs to move in a slightly different direction now that they've established all the character storylines and jokes. That means it has to focus more on character issues that were entertaining but never resolved in the first season. If the show didn't change to reflect that, you would be complaining that it's a one trick pony.

No I agree. It’s overhyped, cliché, and other than Macrumors, nobody talks about this show.

At best, it’s a good positive story series, a decent comedy.

but it’s nothing special. And that’s why nobody talks about it outside these forums. People want shows that will HOOK them, that they CAN’T stop talking about, that they just BINGE out of sheer compulsion.

this series is not that. It’s decent, just not that.

I enjoyed the first three episodes of season 2, but they just didn't rise to what they did in the first season. Then they had the Christmas episode, and I felt like they were back. I absolutely loved that episode. And then episode 5 came out, and I felt like they were firmly back in the groove. Episode six kept it up, and I have high hopes for the rest of the season.

Wouldn't it be weirder for Apple to not use their own products but also subject the audience to a multitude of different looking devices, icons, layouts for each character? Phones and other devices are merely

Totally disagree. I know family and friends that keep asking about Ted Lasso but don't even have Apple devices or Apple TV. They are hearing about this show through word of mouth and awards announcements. Some people in my family own every Apple device so they get AppleTV+ for free and they say that Ted Lasso is the only show on the entire service they like. That's not good for Apple but it is good for Ted Lasso and reminds me of the iPod/iPhone halo affect a little.

The show might not age well but we will see. However, right now it's a feel-good show in a time when people aren't feeling so good and it delivers.

The "problem" with Ted Lasso is there's only so much you can do with a character like that. He's a good guy. You root for him. He's who you would want as a dad or husband or friend.

But if you look at the most successful TV shows over the last decade+, they're never based on a character like that. They're all wrought with "good" bad guys. It's always the lesser of two evils - the bad guy who you want to sympathize with and root for. But he's still kinda bad and makes bad decisions. That makes for good TV, dramatic TV. And you can build a lot off of that.

There's only so much you can build off of a character like Ted Lasso. To me, I find it incredibly refreshing and I'm willing to forgive the show if they drift a bit in the name of trying to keep things interesting for the broader audience.

I think you just hit on why TV has been crap for the last decade+. If you look at sci-fi tv as an example, most portray a dystopian future where things never really get any better, no matter how hard the protagonists try. They just want to create drama via conflict. It's depressing and typically people will lose interest after while. I know I do, and I know that that kind of entertainment brings down my mood as well. Ted lasso, on the other hand, is so f*****g delightful that just reading the comments here has inspired me to go and re-watch this season even before it has finished. The show is great. Don't try to ruin it with messy angsty drama. There is enough of that on the CW to last anyone a lifetime.
