I am enjoying the character development in Season 2. People are evolving. There is growth and change. And it does not feel artificial. The Christmas show was wonderful since it showed me "real" people celebrating Christmas. It is not about being left in the attic (Home Alone) nor having bizarre antics happen (Christmas Vacation) nor incredibly good looking couples finding each other (see Hallmark and Netflix specials). This showed families/friends gathering and caring for one another. It made me happy. :)

Is it me or does season 2 suck? It’s really not funny and seems too self-aware.
I'm with you, but I do understand why people like it. The show is Love Actually x Notting Hill on steroids. That's not a bad thing, but it makes it awfully hard to watch after a while for me personally. In terms of fantasy idealized Englands I much prefer Jeeves and Wooster. That is just as feel good but done with wit and very clever writing. TL far too often goes for the low hanging fruit in a manipulative way.

Maybe it was a bad year for comedy TV, I just find the bar quite low if it won ‘Best Comedy’
Bad year? Try a bad decade just about. Comedy on TV is just about dead. Because most of the people making comedy think drama belongs in comedy shows on TV. There is a reason for this, but won't go into it here.

Watched the Christmas episode last night - I'm not sure if it was maybe meant to be shown at Christmas and delayed for some reason (Covid?), but it was something that really didn't work well watching it in August.
I know it was super feel good, but I agree and it was too far over the top. It felt like it was written by a 10 year old. Why didn't they just hold it back for a Xmas release? I don't get it. Very odd.

... right now it's a feel-good show in a time when people aren't feeling so good and it delivers.
I totally agree with this. And I think this is why I do continue to watch it in spite of my reservations.

I think you just hit on why TV has been crap for the last decade+. If you look at sci-fi tv as an example, most portray a dystopian future where things never really get any better, no matter how hard the protagonists try. They just want to create drama via conflict. It's depressing and typically people will lose interest after while. I know I do, and I know that that kind of entertainment brings down my mood as well. Ted lasso, on the other hand, is so f*****g delightful that just reading the comments here has inspired me to go and re-watch this season even before it has finished. The show is great. Don't try to ruin it with messy angsty drama. There is enough of that on the CW to last anyone a lifetime.
Most American dramas run out of steam by the end of the 3rd season. At best! Some even run out of steam midway through the first season (I'm looking at you Altered Carbon). The Sopranos and Mad Men are two classic examples of dramas out of puff after brilliant 3rd seasons. They have pretty much done all the good storylines and we know everything there is to know about the characters in their world, so they then turn to family. It takes all the energy out of the show, makes the characters petty and small and turns them into soap operas.

I don’t watch much television. But I gave it two full episodes and really tried to see the merit in this comedy. I found it completely boring and not worth anymore time. If this is prime Emmy material, it does not speak well for the quality of what the television industry is producing.

Exactly. That's what I hate about american dramas. They just keep doing the exact same horrible things to each other to create drama. After season 3 you stop watching because it's not going anywhere. I'm happy to see another show where people actually do good things for each other and support each other and the only horrible people are the side characters who either learn a lesson and become better or they are only there to teach us a valuable lesson on how to treat each other then go away. It's a show a bout being positive and caring. We need more like it.

1. You are confusing Apple with the Hollywood Critics Association and The Academy.
2. Apple has more than one show that is successful.
3. Apple didn't make it.

Agree. Apple has so little to do with these shows. Begs the question why we keep seeing this on a tech forum.

1-Not this exact article but if you have been following..."Apple holding three 'Ted Lasso' themed tailgate event for fans in LA

2-I do not know any other Apple show that has been liked by the general public. I do not hear any echos of See or Dickinson. If you have numbers I am willing to to listen. Its no where near something like Walking Dead , Stranger Things, American Horror Story..etc

3-Doesn't matter to me, if they bought it or have exclusive rights to it then its theirs. Its an "Apple" show as far as I care... unlesss its not!?

Dickinson was so successful at launch it was the first show to be renewed. See has audience praise but not critics. I suspect the same with The Morning Show. It’s just that their first seasons came out so long ago we sort of forgot about them.

My understanding was that Comcast owns the show and characters to Ted Lasso as it’s based off their NBC Sports marketing of the Premier League. Apple commissioned them to make it into a show but that they are just a distributor. Might be wrong though.
