Unfortunately, the er, "not computer types" need a simple way to get Home, and nothing is more simple than just one physical button on the front of the phone. I also don't agree with simplicity for the sake of simplicity, which is why I went with a Nexus this round.

You're not suggesting that these above average intelligence and wealthy Apple owners can't use a virtual home button

kids find out about these things from their parents.. they're always using mom&dad's ipad or iphone or laptop.. parents don't have iwatches yet so the kids don't know about them yet.. it's not like you turn on nickelodeon or open teenbeat* and see iwatch ads.

*just guessing.. i don't read teenbeat nor do i know if it's a real magazine : )

Agree. I should have added above that I ordered 2. My wife and I will both have one and I'm guessing they will be asking about one come Christmas time. Maybe not but we'll see.

When I went to my Apple Store to get a peek at the Watch last Sunday, all of the people trying it on were women in their 50s. I was surprised. Don't know if that's indicative of the Watch's demographic, or just the demographic of people who are willing to make an appointment to try one on.

I've done walk in try on's at two different Apple stores, both stores were busy but only a few people checking out the watch. This was on the 12th and 14th.

Did you at least get a complementary Apple Genius T-shirt for your frequent visits to the store?
"Cliff !"

I don't think the Apple Watch will ever be popular among teens. Do teens even wear accessories? When I was growing up, I don't remember anyone in high school wearing a watch, but smartphones also didn't exist yet when I was in high school, so who knows. But even then, the iphone and the apple watch are very different devices. It's one thing to have your parents buy you a iphone, but I don't think any parents would buy their teen a $350+ watch. And very few teens are going to be able to afford an Apple Watch.

yup $350 for a watch is wayyyyy too much. even if my son is in his teen years (he's only 5 now), i wouldn't pay that much for a kid to wear. $99 or less and i'm sold.

Those of us who can afford an Apple Watch have these strange things called jobs. That's why we're not hanging out at the Apple Store on the 12th and 14th trying on watches that we can't purchase. We're at work!

Mine is on order though. I don't really feel the need to have some Apple employee tell me which is right for my style.

My current watch is 45.5mm, so clearly the 42mm is the only choice. I won't pay that kind of money for gold as I don't like gold colored watches. I think I'd prefer the weight and look of the steel, but don't want to spend for the stainless bracelet.

So leather loop it is, and no need to visit the store and look at what I can't have yet.

The 12th was a Sunday afternoon, the 14th was a Tuesday night. See, you can work and try on the watch. I like the SS watch, but not the leather loop strap.

But you had to pay a monthly fee no matter what phone you got - Android, WinMo... basic flip phones. It's not like the iPhones had a monthly fee but the Sidekick was a 1-time transaction and than free phone/text/data for life.

the iphone plans were more expensive at that time.. iirc, you had to pay $30/month extra for the iphone plan.

besides, those other phones were more likely than not being subsidized as well..
http://www.fool.com/investing/gener...t-t-mobile-att-and-verizon-end-subsidize.aspx

apple was a little late to that game.

And as long as we're splitting hairs...
we're not splitting hairs.. the phone costs more than $200.. a lot more.

I think the mere fact of "upgrading" costs me around $20 from AT&T, for the "privilege" of getting a $600 phone just $200.
haha. ok.. if that's what you think then that's what you think.. i guess.

---
edit.. but just so we're clear.. if an iPhone costs $649, that's how much you pay for it. paying $200 up front is just that.. but don't think for a minute you're not paying the other $449 as well.

Okay you got me. :p

When is your delivery date? It's nice watch, even if it just told time. IMO, the SS looks better than the aluminum and seeing them side by side confirmed it. It's too bad they couldn't demo it paired to a phone. I was told that they had no live training with a fully functional watch and the first working model they saw was on the 10th. The employees are learning as they go. The ones I talked to are looking forward to really trying it to see what it can do and how it works.

aww, come on.. who you trying to kid.. you're on the interntez
:D

There aren't many services that offer this anymore without altering their contract. I tried this with ATT when I bought my 6 Plus. Once I found out they were adding an additional 25$ to my plan a month for buying a subsidized phone, I returned it and bought it outright. It would cost me more in a 2 year contract than to just buy the phone at cost.

I dont think thats how it works- basically you lease phones now. You pay a set amount up front + tax on the MSRP (could be anything, from 0 to full MSRP) and the rest will be broken up into a 48 month payment plan.

at least thats how t mobile does it

U parents should make ur children make an app for the apple watch or iPhone and if they can, buy for them.

You did not have to change your plan. It sounds like you got a shady rep. I'm not sure how you didn't know this before leaving the store though. They are required to print out a copy of any and all changes to your account. I work for an Apple and AT&T reseller.

Whilst I don't think the Apple Watch is going anywhere anytime soon, I don't think it'll be as popular as Apple would like. But only time will tell.
I agree. The phone is all about communicating (photos, phone calls, texting) and the watch can't be that. It will be interested to find out what it turns into, but likely it won't have the same popularity as the phone because it can't, on it's own, be the same sort of communications device.
watches are not smartphones.
I didn'ts say they were. What I said was that it's not a good idea to assume that anything put out by Apple will go the way of other similar products put out by other companies (i.e., that the Apple watch will become one more smartwatch and have no affect on the marketplace). As I said, the iPhone was viewed as likely to be bought up by fans and then become just another smartphone. It didn't--it changed everything about smartphones. And quite possibly, this watch will do the same for watches.

That doesn't mean it will make the watch equal to smartphones in popularity, nor that it will have the same huge impact/splash as the iPhone. What it means--what I mean--is that one shouldn't underestimate the impact of an Apple device on the marketplace for that device. Apple devices have a tendency to make customers suddenly *notice* and start buying such devices.

I never understand why so many people here don't get that. It's not about whether Apple has put out something new or different. It's about Apple's ability to make consumers to take notice of a device; to say, "Oh, I could use that!" And suddenly they want a product where they didn't even know they wanted it before. THAT is what Apple does best. And that is why it tends to set the standard on such devices.

I would expect interest in the Watch to be affected by demographics. In my area there's lots of teens with pre-orders in according to my local Apple Store. I know a manager their who responded to my question according to what one would expect from an Apple representative. Vague yet enough emphasis that reading between the lines as well as noticing the customer mix in this always busy store, their doesn't seem to be a lack of interest within any age range.

Yeah, you must be really rich to afford a $400 watch.
Most teens i know spend more than that on alcohol/cigarettes/drugs,etc. Per month.

You should hang around with different people. This group sounds like a bad influence. :p

Just curious, have you tried it on yet? IMO, it can actually stand on it's own just as a watch, everything else is gravy. The SS version is a nice piece of jewelry that I think will appeal to a lot of people.

I haven't tried it on yet, but look forward to doing so. While I'm skeptical about the whole product category, I think Apple did a great job with the design. I still don't think it will convince me to wear a watch again, but who knows...

I just wish that they would have a real demo set up so that you could actually see how the watch functioned when paired with a phone. You really can't do anything with the demo units.

I'm guessing you think all teens will want the sport version? I'm pretty sure quite a few would be more interested in the other bands, so it's not always $400.

Don't know what teens you hang around with but I don't think $400 is something to bat an eye at (especially when an iPad and Macbook are probably higher on their priority list). I don't know---maybe mommy and daddy are upping their teens allowances these days.

Why would teens have any interest in something their parents gave up wearing when they were teens?
