You mean Teens are discerning customers who understand a quality product that is worth their parents paying for. 🤣

100%. I'd actually be interested in seeing a survey of teens that own iPhones with parents that own androids (work phones don't count). I for one use an iPhone and maintain an all-Mac household, and I would never even consider getting my kid a non-Apple phone.

Coincidentally, I am currently on a call for work (selling medical devices) where we are talking about doing a series of demos on some new products for customers. Rather than haul these large devices around to different hospitals, we are using Oculus headsets to give virtual demos of our products. It's a pretty cool concept and has been very successful, but that's a long way from making an Apple headset a mainstream product.

My personal opinion is that VR had a big chance during the pandemic when folks were home all the time, and couldn't travel. But now that we're back out and about socializing with our friends and going on trips etc., Apple may have missed the boat. What is the point on spending $3K on a VR headset when I could spend that same money to go on a real trip to a far away land?

I think the price must come down for mass market appeal. And there has to be a killer app. Otherwise, it's just an expensive gimmick.

If this does even come out and people are wearing them like that, I'm waiting for the articles about theft since they will only be aware of what it happening in the virtual world,
The early VR worlds online were simple. Some to the point of creating goods, services, etc. Headsets were tried, but most failed in those VR later years within those worlds). Hence now people want VR glasses (headsets) for other purposes and reasons (mostly porn). At some point and time, apple will release these but, later versions will be cheaper and soon after outdated. 3000.00 us monies is extreme it is! but a lower-cost version could be more feasible and accessible to more of the users that want these. I indeed understand your point.

You know what people really want? They want the tech they get to use in "The Expanse". People flick their finger into the air, and suddenly their phone display is floating in full 3-d in the middle of the room. That's what people want, not some clunky piece of hardware you gotta strap onto your coconut.

I'm extremely averse to AR and AI right now. I don't think that will change either. I don't understand why there is such a push for it other than the tech echo chamber thinking about its possibilities. After the Metavere, Snapchat Spectacles, and Google Glass failure to gain traction (putting that mildly) it should be somewhat obvious.

I tell the android fanboys all the time: just owning one Apple device wont impress you

Oh, i can argue about that.
Iam old fart, and can be called like "power user", i have tried and use a lot devices on android started from ancient times and for nowadays.
I had owned samsungs, miriad china brands, i had phones with custom roms and root, etc. Also iam still have good new samsung because of specific needs (**** it!).
But somehow it all happened that way iam never owned an iphones. Yes of course had played with them here and there, but not owning, not having for a some time. And don't really understand why them so expensive.
Last summer i have bought an iphone.

For today (srsly more early) i have been totally understood at all.

**** android **** every and all the ways.

And no, it's not all about ecosystem and fancy seamless ***** (big android vendors have it). Yes it's nice, but i can suppose "ecosystem" thing is about ~20% of "goodness".

Iam lazy enough to explain details, but honestly - yes, it could impress hard.

How would a headset that requires a Mac be successful? If it's tethered to a computer it has to support Windows since that's what most people use. Making it only compatible with the Mac would greatly limit the number of potential customers. The Apple Watch requires an iPhone, but there are way more iPhone users than Mac users, so there are more people who own Apple Watches than, say, a copy of Final Cut Pro. Imagine how successful the iPod would have been if Apple didn't release iTunes for Windows in 2003.
True, but I really think it would need Apple hardware. It's not just a link to the files on the device, on Windows every app would need to run on windows (on the PC) and macOS (in VR) at the same time. That's not going to happen in any case so it's either tethered to a Mac or a standalone product.

A Mac mini pro and the glasses together would cost about 3000 dollars, coinciding with the rumours. :)

I'm 21y and I think VR is cool, but just too expensive
I think it’s “cool” too. I just don’t see it becoming a must have device for most people… regardless of the cost. But again, what do i know? Perhaps in the future when super realistic holograms become a thing, you won’t even need to wear goggles.

Teens aren't excited to buy AR headsets for just $3000 each? How perplexing.
It’s just an extra paycheck, what’s the big deal? You know, after paying your $2500/mo rent for your crummy efficiency apartment, $1000/mo health insurance, $1000/mo car insurance & phone bill. Every teenager should be working weekends at minimum wage jobs, so that’s what, like 5-6k per month? Surely this isn’t too big on an ask. They don’t even have to worry about the student loans it took to get those jobs yet, or save for a down payment on a million dollar starter home, or put a kid through childhood. lol
