I am pretty big apple fan with lots of apple items in the house and have been using them for years now..

This is one of those items that I feel like it is doomed to fail..

I just don't believe there is a market for it or will ever be one...
Pretty much how I feel about this.

I simply don't see what the VP can do other procuts can't do sufficiently well AND that's actually a useful application.

I'm willing to be proven wrong, but I'm very, very sceptical.

I was actually curious enough to try to watch the video, even though I knew up front I have no use for such things, but got thwarted by the page telling me I had to download Telegram for Mac to watch it.

Same, but I found someone who reuploaded it to YouTube.

It's strange that they are showcasing this, because it doesn't show anything where the 3D would bring any benefit (unless you count 3D sticker animations).
Exactly. This is NOT it. Is it necessary? Yeah, you will want to use as many apps as possible who have at least had the consideration of being altered for VisionOS. However, this is not an app to feature by any means.

However, MacRumors needs content, so anything posted about anything even tangential to Apple seems to get screen space these days. So here we are, an article about a company saying "we are compatible".

cool.

Who would want to dictate the stuff they send on Telegram? I know the stuff me and my buddies talk about in our group chat is definitely not something I wanna say out loud. The virtual keyboard is gonna suck too probably. It’s just a big mystery who this product is for, especially considering the price point.
Calling FBI!!!

It could have a huge market, but Apple fail to convince us in the event. Heck, I am wondering if Apple themselves know what to use this for.

It’s a joke to have visionOS to be so similar to iOS, when the selling point they can think of is big screen and multi tasking, two of the things that just doesn’t work on iOS

I wonder if Apple will try to bring this 3D approach to iOS and iPadOS as well, kind of to what they already started with Stage Manager in iPadOS?

I don’t really see a use for this in its current form, although I do find it funny that so many people are saying it’s overpriced. The second Apple announced the space black M3 MacBook people instantly purchased maxed out 16” pros, where just the options cost more than the Vision Pro.

Is it expensive? Yes, but there are clearly a lot of people that can afford one.

I think the killer apps nobody is talking about are dating apps. Instead of all that BS small talk texting, people can walk into a virtual bar in their living room. Meet someone and take them on a virtual date before the real thing, you see someone sitting alone at the end of the bar, you walk over to them, tap them on the shoulder and it brings up both peoples profiles, you then have the option of starting a voice or video call with them. Then you can take it private and watch a movie together on the moon. This could end up saving some people a lot of money lol.

If this is ever going to work (which is highly doubtful) it needs to be cheaper, lighter, untethered... and the software needs to do a lot more than just create floating screens in front of your face. You could argue it gives a 'better' experience for this, but 3D TVs also provided a 'better' experience and look what happened to them. People will always pick simplicity and convenience in the long run.

No matter how good this thing gets, putting something on your head is always going to be inconvenient and irritating after the initial buzz of playing with a new toy wears off.

i don't get why the vision OS UI is completely transparent it's hard to read.
and honestly having a 2D windows in a 3D inviroment ins not different then holding your phone or ipad infront of your face.
apple just showed us scrolling through 2D windows and watching movies.

A virtual date with one of Apple’s weird looking avatar things? Doesn’t sound appealing. The issue here is that you’re both wearing a bulky head set so you can’t actually see each other when conferencing.

This is just a regular windowed desktop app with transparency, which indicates to me that devs have no idea how to do things differently for VisionOS and the XR platform. I don't consider that to be a good omen for XR...

Which is basically what most of the interface on visionOS is, they are iPad apps with transparency.

And this is one of the reasons why the product will struggle. As fundamentally you can do the same things just without a computer strapped to your head.

It doesn’t just go on your head like a hat. It goes on your face. And that, in a word, is why it will fail. The only thing most people are willing to put on their faces is glasses. Small, transparent or translucent devices that neither isolate you from the world or make you look like you’re wearing a tech-blindfold. Apple’s Vision system will never fit inside a pair of glasses and it isn’t based on true AR where the user looks directly at the real world.

That single barrier, the fact that it goes over your face and around your head, will be a deal breaker for the vast majority of consumers. Given the fact that Tim Cook seems to think this is going to be the next iPhone, I’d say he’s in a very bad spot.

I think there’s a market for it, but it isn’t a huge market. What drove the smartphone adoption over the last 15 years is the convenience of combining the phone in your pocket with the internet. Vision Pro is fighting an uphill battle against the inconvenience of putting something on, and the stigma of wearing something on your head. It has to offer very significant value to overcome that, and by that I mean compelling unique content.

Things like a Telegram app that you can just as easily and a lot more quickly check on your phone is not going to motivate you to wear the Vision Pro. It’s low-hanging fruit for developers, but it doesn’t significantly influence the desire to wear the device. If this is the best they can come up with, I don’t see much of a future for the Vision series, Pro or non Pro.

I don’t think the price is the biggest thing to be overcome with Vision devices. Even if it did cost 500 usd it still wouldn’t be a guaranteed success.
