This isnt the first time Apple has launched an iPhone...I figure they could probably pretty accurately predict how many they think should sell the first week or so...no?

They can predict all day long, doesn't mean they're going to hit their number though. That would still leave some people in the cold.

Who is going to camp out for the iPhone?

Makes sense to make a current thread than the one I revived earlier in the week. I might wait in line just for the fun of it. Anyone else?

I think those that wait in line just to get the product a few hours before someone else are a bit odd. But who am I to judge? :D I guess I'm waaay too lazy to wait in line. :)

Phones are different because we use them very frequently. Certain products can receive a lot of hype because anyone can buy a different laptop and it will work just as fine, but the iPhone is clearly something else.

I got there last year at about 4AM and got in line at about 5. Was out of there 10 minutes after opening with my iPhone, I was third in line.

I only did it so I wouldn't have to wait around all day for UPS if I had it delivered. This year, I will likely do the same. i don't care about getting it earlier than anyone else, I just don't want to have to wait all day for a delivery.

If UPS delivers, then I might wait in line unless they require a signature

I will definitely be pre-ordering it and will not be going to ATT to get it. So, I am still debating whether or not to go wait in line or have it delivered. I am impatient and camping out might be worth it. Idk :D

Definitely not camping out. I'll sleep in til around 10am, and then see my packages at the door around 11am... just like last year. FedEx and UPS deliver packages before 12pm in my neighborhood.

Pros and Cons of waiting in line?

Since I plan on waiting in line for the about-to-be-announced iPhone, I feel I should know about the pros and cons of doing so. Any tips are appreciated.

Thanks!

I love being able to have the time to wait around all day, so you bet I'm gonna make good use of that time :D
Have fun while you wait mate. Drink, smoke, workout, call friends over, call a lady friend over, clean your room, play a video game, cook something, lay out in the sun, organize your iTunes library, go for a hike, read, watch a movie.... whatever you like.

Pros? You get to meet awesome people who share your passion for said product.

Cons? If you don't like being an early adopter, waiting in line at all is a con.

It's fun! It's a cool experience... and it's not just the "nerdy obsessed" who camp out... TONS of people do it. Last year we brought a blanket, some food, and the HP HDX to watch transformers on BR... it was great fun... We got there at midnight... nobody showed until about 2AM... then it was just us until 4AM and then there were about 5 people... by 630 there were about 20... and by launch the line was around the building.

Yeah its pretty cool and the experience is one in a lifetime unless you camp out for more products, but yeah u can bring food and something to keep yourself entertained and the time will fly by.

This will be my first year to camp out. I did it for the iPad and it was a pretty neat experience. I like meeting the new people, getting it before anyone else, et cetera. I don't particularly enjoy the waiting part (8-9 hours), especially if the weather isn't great.

just preorder the damn thing and have it delivered or have in store pickup at your convenience. screw all this waiting in line BS.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

The only pro to it would be if you don't have anything better to do and enjoy meeting other people with similar interests. There's really no other positive.

@amann76: Wow. Hermit Crab/Scrooge much?

Anyway, in addition to my previous post it's also really cool meeting all the different people. It's so weird how everyone just "get's along" and starts talking right off the bat... we all just click so easily... it sounds kinda queer but it's cool, haha. :p

I've waited for the original iphone, and 3G. I plan on waiting in line for the 4th one....

it's definitely an experience, 2 years ago there was a post for the iphone meet up in miami (where I used to live) and we all met up and wore red shirts. We were a huge posse of 12 plus and we made the line fun, talking to everyone and having a blast.

It's something to look forward to - but this year i'll just be going a little later than usual and hopes i'm not very back in the long lines.

Pros:

You might have some fun. I still remember all the protests that I took part in. Overnight ones are great fun. You get to pee in the most beautiful places!

You might save half an hour of queuing in the morning.

Cons:

You certainly look desperate.

I can't remember any launch that was worth more than a simple visit in the morning and to stay in line for half an hour at the most.

It's all about the experience mostly. I have waited for each phone. Last yes, i had one reserved, but i was not sure whether they actually held one for me, so I waited in line anyway. This year I may just pre order so it will come in whenever it launches, especially if I have work on that day.
