If you just want streaming music/talk radio without the overhead, i typically use shoutcast. You can save the .pls or .m3u for each station and just open them with quicktime, vlc, etc, or it'll play in a browser tab as well. Good to know ppcmc works again with live streams. Last i read it was broken not long a go.

Cheers
Will this work under classila, so I can save the .m3u files for use in itunes under OS 9 ?

Only if it stops working. v3 & v5 still work as intended.
Btw, I am sorry if I was not on for a few months. I was laid off my job and I now have new job, just i can't buy anything till 1st check next week. V5 works fine on my titanium. Again, great job keeping these old machines going !

v5 still works well on my PB G4 1.5 … but you cannot open other apps (interweb, TFF, or others) in order not to drain your CPU

I am having problems with tenfivetube. I honestly can't figure it out. All i get is a blank window.

I have just starting using my PB G4 again and I am not sure if I have the latest version of TFTube. I have V5 but when it starts up, I get this message:

When I click Install Update, I get an error message:
Picture 3.png

I can't find version 0.96 to download on the usual websites.

That's Fluid trying to update rather than TenFiveTube (and there is no update for Fluid on PowerPC.) I have version 3 on my Powerbook and that still works - however, going to http://iteroni.com and watching Youtube from there will be more efficient on your Powerbook (of course, using some permutation of PPCMC7 will be even better.)

On my machine (see below) I'm not getting results with TFTube v5 anywhere near what we see on videos posted on YT in 2020 like this one.
No, it looks like a slideshow more than anything else, buffering takes forever, the only available resolution is 360p so no way to lower it down to 240p to give it a shot, etc... but those videos were made 4 years back, I'd guess YT has yet made more changes (and more bloat ?) since then. Either that, or my machine has some serious issues with playing YT videos...

I've tried PPCMC7 as suggested above and it does provide a much smoother experience video-wise, you can't even compare the two, however it's not quite the same UI/UX and some functionalities available when watching directly in YT are not available (quite logically).

Reading above post reminded me of the iteroni site so I'll give it a try later, to see if TFTube yields any better video performance there.

It’s very important to make sure you have QuickTime 7.7 installed as per the 1st post of this thread. Without it you’ll for sure get a slide show. If your machine is a slower than 1.5ghz i’d suggest you try v3 instead. You lose some features of v5, but it’s UI is lighter and works better on slower machines. You can find both versions and QT 7.7 on macintosh garden. If neither of those suggestions helps, then yeah, maybe youtube made some changes.

Unfortunately, things continue to not want to go my way with anything related to YT...
Went to the iteroni web site using TFTube (in browser mode) as planned, but none of the YT clips I searched (Buck Bunny, and Action Retro for example) or even videos listed (mostly in Japanese) on the web page could play (not even using the "switch Invid. instance", getting an error message "Load Failed
Reason : secure connection failed
").

Switching to Aquafox then it first looked like it was going to work, the YT page and initial picture loaded - however, stopped immediately with the message "No compatible source was found for this media."

Too bad, in both cases pages load very quickly including multiple thumbnails and all the rest (compared to the several *minutes* required when browsing directly in YT), but no video clip would play... :-/

EDIT : just saw your post above that you sent while I was typing mine, we' re very synchronous here ! ^^ - thanxx for the suggestion, I don't hold very high hopes at this point but I'll definitely try v3, actually I'll do this right away (and I already have QT 7.7 installed).

Ok so just tried TFT v3, and it _is_ much better indeed. After the initial 10-15s of buffering while playing (i.e. slideshow mode) and audio playing normally, the thing becomes an actual "video" with audio perfectly in sync - however stuttering is very present, esp. when the whole picture tends to move (as opposed to say a fix stage and maybe just one guy talking and no camera move).
As a side note : I didn't find how to change resolution (I suppose it played with defaults 360p mode) and the full screen control (the incomplete square thingy) did nothing.

So this is the second best experience I've had with YT (PPCMC7 being on top, 100% fluid video). I certainly wouldn't watch an entire movie here, but for say a few minutes video it's bearable, audio is no issue at all while video is about 80% fluid and 20% stuttering overall.

Thanxx very much again @wicknix for the help - and for dev'ing the TFTube app. :)

Glad it mostly worked out for you. Your machine is at that odd mid-point where its not quite fast enough to be fluid, yet not quite slow enough to not work at all. I haven’t fired up my PPC’s in ages. I’m sure YT changed how it handles mobile phone user agents. You use to be able to click on the video to bring up the settings for video quality. Guess they took that away. Seems PPCMC ran in to something similar where only 360p was available.

TIP: Making TenFiveTube's window smaller will increase video playback to a more fluid state on slower machines also.

Browser based Youtube is pretty miserable on G4s now.
On my 1.5Ghz 12” Powerbook there’s not a single browser solution now that provides smooth, instant playback, so for me using scripts and yt-dlp is the only way forward (either within PPCMC or separate.)

If you want to try playback at 240P or 144P the way that works for me is making an InterWeb instance with InTheBox with the following user agent:

Mozilla/5.0 (Mobile; rv:48.0) Gecko/48.0 Firefox/48.0 KAIOS/2.0

Even at 144P though I find this largely unwatchable.

you're probably right about the "odd mid-point", I was initially shocked and dismayed when I saw such a poor performance on my 1.33GHz PPC compared with the 867MHz PBook Titanium on one of the videos, then I saw that these videos showing TFTube dated 4-5 years back, clearly things must have changed since then.

I'm a little surprised not to see here other people with similar machines report the problems they're having with today's YT, or maybe they're not using their Powerbook's anymore or don't try anymore to go to YT, or maybe they have it working fine on their machine... but I'd certainly appreciate to read more from them !

As for the window size that's the first thing I tried, but the improvement is marginal from what I've seen, in fact enlarging the window did not degrade things all that much either, much to my surprise. Single try last night though, I probably need to do some more tinkering.

At this point I'm considering using TFT v3 for short vid's, and PPCMC7 for longer one's, in fact I'm thinking of coding an interface to help control what I want to do with such or such YT video (and if possible improve PPCMC7 UX, only raw functionality at this point - but nice approach and video quality).
What about a CLI I/F for TFT and/or PPCMC7 to enable external control (e.g. from script) of these 2 apps...? 🤔

Ah shout ! I once again missed the last post before writing a new reply... 😅
@Dronecatcher : thanks for confirming the state of affairs as far as YT on G4's is concerned, so it's not just me or my machine ^^, a bit sad but a pretty lucid statement. :/
Funny thing is that I mentioned scripting before reading your post, so yeah that's something I'll definitely want to look into.

Ideally I'd like to make use of a CLI to improve the U/X on both apps using an external script, but that means they would have provide such a tool (though PPCMC7 already uses scripting) - what would be your thoughts on this ?
