People posting your battery life usage without saying how you've used your watch is pretty much useless information.

If I turn off AOD, don't use it all all for workouts, and genuinely don't do anything but get notifications and look at the time then the S5 battery might be ok. If you use your watch at all for other things though that's where the battery gets beatdown.

Going to bed at 11pm and it’s on 10% left with no workouts

I do realise though I had background refresh on...switched it off..wonder how much that matters

Feels like a software issue. I am having bad battery life also. I will try turning off the wake screen, noise app, and background app refresh to see if it helps. Anyone try the 6.1 beta to see if that resolved some of the issues? Has anyone talked to Apple about the issue?

Yes, it is likely software -- I've seen reports of AW4 owners having battery issues after installing WatchOS6. Initial reports from beta testers suggest the problem may be fixed in the beta - we shall see what the reality is.

I'm just short of a week in.

Identical usage to me previous S2 and battery live is half as good as a 3yr old watch. AOD is great and I do enjoy it but there is NO WAY it will get through 2 days like I used to sometimes if I was away for the night on business.

Not the end of the world and I have thought about taking it back but like the AOD and hope they will improve it, will it get back to S4/3/2 battery life I can only hope.

We should establish a baseline then to make sure the information is useful. As I mentioned some posts earlier I'm running pretty much with default settings, with AOD. Which settings would you consider significant?

I have just the regular aluminum series 5 and used it a bit just for time, heart rate and walkie talkie. I occasionally check it for missed calls/text messages. Just got home from work and it’s at 16%. I’ll wait a few days and see how battery life is

Thought I would try 6.1 beta on my S5 cellular 44mm and with everything setup the same, AOD on, noise off, background app refresh on.

So far at 97% left I have 2hrs standby and 30mins usage. Hasn't been installed long so will see how this goes over the next day or two. But looks like 6.1 is pretty good so far battery wise. Have noticed on 6.1 though the watch too sensitive to raise on wake, manual brightness seems buggy as the top two bars the brightness is about the same, and I do miss those new faces. Hopefully beta 2 adds those back.

Not sure if this has been posted yet. Casey Liss just retweeted it out so it caught my eye.

Not sure he knows what he's talking about here... The phone with the lower battery life is the one he has connected to his phone and is using location services (note the symbol in the bottom watch), so of course its usage is going to be higher and drain the battery more. The one with the higher battery life isn't connected to a phone so it just shows the WiFi connection and it isn't using location services.

On my previous report about terrible battery life - reseting the watch and restoring it as new instead of using the S2 backup has made a significant difference. Also, it seems WiFi is sucking quite a bit of battery life. So for the time being I've it disabled

Never paid attention to it before, so I don't know if it's normal - but I noticed that my Series 5 with terrible battery life gets quite hot while charging. Like, really hot. Any thoughts on this?

Watching this post I’d suggest the following bits of info are essential:
- AOD on/off
-noise on/off
- background app refresh
- size of watch
- some indications of usage e.g. listening to music, time with watch on cellular away from phone, taking phone calls on watch.

Yes. I think it’s particularly important to list what you did on your watch (60 minute workout for example).

3 hours in and my watch dropped to only 98%

All I’ve done is Switch background refresh off and voice noise app off

AOD ON, noise OFF, background refresh ON, 44mm GPS, usage consists mainly of taking some phone calls, Pillow sleep app, heart rate app, paying with Apple pay, activities app, responding to WhatsApp notifications. Notifications are all on. No workouts (yet).

24h 00 min standby
3h 31 min usage

35% battery left.

I could be totally wrong here, but doesn't disabling background refresh somewhat hinder the watch? I get that a lot of apps don't need it, but wouldn't an app like weather need to be running in the background to stay current? Doesn't the heartrate app need to be running to be more accurate for things like workouts?

Just curious as I've never really understood it even after trying to research it online.

Got background refresh off?
If achieving usable battery life requires disabling core services, there's something very wrong.

My previous watches would get warm when charging for a bit -- if you're used to just charging overnight you likely never noticed.

Yes, in general you'd want background refresh enabled -- then disable it perhaps for certain apps which you don't ever use or you just don't see any need.

This.

Yeah, my S3 did just fine with overnight charging. Sometimes it would last two full days, depending on what I did. I barely ever charged it during the day, but I'm somehow under the impression that the S5 runs a lot hotter while charging …

The hell... yesterday my watch lasted like the first hour of the morning and stayed at 100%. Today, it’s down to 93 after when barely looking at it while getting ready for the day ...Augh

AW serie 5 44mm
Use : 2h56
standby 21h57
48%

AOD on
-noise off
- background app refresh off (like my iPhone, never see a difference with this option...)
use :
-playing during 45 minutes to discover the watch (my first one)
-1 hour workout at the gym
-2 calls
- wrote/answer some WhatsApp via Whatchat

my phone is whit me all the time. I am going to activate the cellular

and last point :I disabled the activation of the screen at wrist lift. I do not see the utility with AOD
