I think the reviews are a little unbalanced at times or that they are just using the watch bare bones with nothing running on it and not doing anything with it.
This may very well be the case, but indeed battery life seems to be improving over time. Yesterday's performance on mine was not great (although I didn't do anything special), then it was fully charged when I went to bed around 1:00 AM and 14 hours later I still have 60% of juice - the best performance so far.

(AOD activated, no workout apps, heart monitoring on and just a slew of mail notifications in the last 7 hours)

"Indexing" doesn't last for days ...
There is almost nothing to "index" on an apple watch.

Sorry but you are incorrect. If you are restoring a backup it takes a few days for the watch to begin acting as normal. It’s been like that with every watch and especially after an OS update.

I decided yesterday evening to just let the battery run out completely and to do a full charge overnight. I’ll see how it performs today. It’s been off the charger since 5:30am and I’ve done a 1 hour workout. Right now it’s 9:14am and it’s at 83%.

It's not "indexing"
Indexing is for enhancing data search requests. What kind of data do you have on an Apple Watch except some music and photos ?

went to bed, watch was 100%, 8 hours later it is now at 87%....the drain is too much compared to an S3 (upgraded to the S5 this weekend)

Hope its addressed tomorrow when 13.1 comes out!

I know most people don’t want to. But like I said before, I would definitely try a factory reset of the watch. Yesterday I got over 15+ hours battery life. Last night I wore my watch to bed and lost 5% battery life.

I’m gonna fully charge it now and had to the gym for a workout and then head to work. Based off my battery life yesterday and the battery life overnight, I’m confident I should be good to go for my 10+hour workday.

Mine has been setup as new watch 3 days ago.
It's clean, I can't imagine a factory reset will help a lot ...

I set my up as a new watch too out the box. And I had the battery issues right after that. Trust me I was possessed because I was running errands and the watch was at 15% and dropping fast.

I’m running 13.1 now so don’t get your hopes up.

I set my watch up as a new watch too out the box. And I had the battery issues right after that. Trust me I was upset because I was running errands and the watch was at 90% and dropped to 15% within hours.

Got home later that night and immediately did a factory reset and it’s been great ever since.

I’m glad I stayed with my S4. I suspected battery life might suffer with always on display and same battery as previous years. AOD was never a draw for me to begin with. I will wait and see what next year brings.

Having a little sellers remorse over my s4 sbss. Got a s5 sbss. Yesterday i had AOD and noise off and got BETTER battery life than my s4. But today with AOD only back on its draining much faster. I do like the new features including noise since Im a shooting and motorcycling hobbyist.

Seems if I have to keep features off I could have kept my S4 instead of selling for a ridiculois loss.

Something wrong with a Watch OS6. For me simply hard reset helped for AW4. All of you who has battery problems AW4/5. Try first hard reset. If that doesn't help, try factory reset. My battery was back to normal immediately after hard reset.

I been telling everyone to do a factory reset. That fixed my issues. I didn’t do a hard reset because I didn’t know about a hard reset lol. But the factory reset definitely fixed my issues.

What is a hard reset? Is that hold both buttons until Apple logo? I know factory reset is done by unpairing.

Sorry but can you clarify what you mean with Factory reset? I've always thought all you can do is unpair the watch from your phone and repair it back. What do you actually do for a "factory reset"?

Not sure if it's real hard reset. But I mean this:

Edit: Force restart.

I googled. Apple says unpair. If you dont have iphone handy you can do the erase all contents and settings on the watch.

I will try if my problems continue.
Did you setup as new again ?

I went into the watch setting or the watch app.. then to general>reset watch>erase Apple Watch and settings>enter iCloud info

The watch will factory reset.

You read my mind , without AOD I do not need new Apple Watch
Thanks for your research and input here.

Well I have been wondering about WatchOS6 battery life on my S4 so I turned raise to wake, noise, and background app refresh off.
Off the charger at 7:30am and it's now 3.15pm and at 85%, granted I've not interacted that much but very impressed with that!
