I’m glad I stayed with my S4. I suspected battery life might suffer with always on display and same battery as previous years. AOD was never a draw for me to begin with. I will wait and see what next year brings.

I think Apple should have gone for extending battery life this time instead and saved AOD for next year. I appreciate they want to get those smartwatch users that have held off because of the lack of it but they could gain many more by making the watch Android compatible instead. Just an extra day or two of charge would make a big difference.

Ok I did that on Saturday so do you think I need to do it again? I took my S4 watch off the charger at 6am and now at 10:31am it's 54%

So you did a factory reset Saturday and set it up as new?

Or you got your watch and Saturday and set it up as new?

I got my new Max Pro on Friday and after pairing my S4 I tried updating it to watchOS 6 on the new phone but had bad install. I called support on Saturday and they had me factory reset and pair as new. Battery life has been horrible since then

I would do another factory reset.

I am looking at buying either a series 5 or a discounted series 4 44mm Apple Watch to replace my ageing series 2 AW. In terms of battery life are people of the opinion that it's mainly WatchOS6 that is causing the battery drain rather than the AW5 itself? Perhaps the "blame / cause" looking something like 10% watch & 90% WatchOS6.

Still at 75% after 11 hours with minimal use so for me, it cant be OS6 and its more about how much you use the watch and how many thirds party apps you have running on the watch

My S4 running wOS 6 is doing much better today. I think this issue will shake-through over the next few days and battery life will stabilise for people. Put it this way - I have a S5 arriving this week and I’m not planning on cancelling my order!

I’m not returning mine. If this was androidwear watch, then yes, I would be returning mine. But Apple is good at updates to fix issues with a good time frame. Androidwear, I would be waiting months for an issue to be addressed.

I’m good with my watch as my battery life has improved tremendously.

It's not "indexing"
Indexing is for enhancing data search requests. What kind of data do you have on an Apple Watch except some music and photos ?

Well whatever you want to call it. It’s always taken new watches and OS updates a few days to settle in. On my series 4 with the Gold Master it took it a good 3 days before the battery life started to vastly improve. It was excellent about the 4th day in.

An update: it’s been now an hour and 45 minutes since off the charger this morning and I’m still at 99 percent. All I did was disable the noise monitoring. Seems to be good battery life again. :)

Agreed. What’s comical is that they are working on sleep tracking right now. It will take a full battery to make it through the night and then you’ll have to recharge in the morning, which I guess some people would be ok with.

I had mine disabled yesterday and today I enabled everything.

So far I been off the charger for about an hour and just completed a workout. I had music playing as well. So far my watch has went from 100% to 99%.

Without AOD - I'm only losing 5%+ on my watch every night. Definitely will be looking for battery longevity in my next watch (won't be looking for 2+ years having just got AW5). Was really hoping for 2+ days of battery life.

I’m at 80% after 3 hours of light use for me. I turned off the noise measurements but left the AOD on. My series 4 at this time is usually closer to 85%, but I also start using that at 8am when I am working.

Bad is an understatement with the Series 5 battery life so far. I’m using iOS 13.1 beta 4 with an iPhone Pro Max.

Sleep tracking works just fine already and has done for some time?

What you’re missing is a first party app, that’s all.

Me too with S4 on any update...I always try and give a couple of reboots, and then just ignore drain over next few days.

I’ve had pretty below par battery life since updating last Tuesday...but as of today, took off charger around 930am and now at 5pm it’s showing 94% (it was 100% until almost midday)...seems like back to normal (good) battery usage now.

I’m showing 39mins usage.

The series 4 & 5 are the exact same watch CPU, GPU, Battery are all the same. Only change in the 5 is the new OLED screen that allows the AOD feature. If that helps with your decision. With my 4 I’ve noticed since OS6 I’ll finish my day at about 43% charge left. Prior to the update I’d finish my day with about 63% charge left. I do have Noise disabled, I’ve hard reset, forced reboot, and factory reset/repaired the watch. The results stayed the same. OS6 is about a 20% hit to the battery as it is right now.

Yeah so what’s your point? I said Apple was working on it.

My point is that unlike your suggestion, it doesn’t take a full battery to get through the night, so it’s not comical that they are (maybe) committing resources to developing an app base for sleep tracking.
