Not compared to Mophie, no, but Mophie's prices are also always kind of high. Ravpower's 10,000mAh wireless charger is $35, for example. https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Wireless-RAVPower-10000mAh-Qi-Enabled/dp/B07CC3X6F4

There are even cheaper options on Amazon, but yeah, I agree I wouldn't go with an untrusted brand. I've personally used the Ravpower charger and know it's decent, though.

In general, I think the wireless power banks are not the greatest idea. Inefficient and slow compared to wired charging. Typically you're using a power bank when your iPhone is low and you need juice fast/in an emergency, and wireless charging is not super useful for that.
True, but it is also kinda nice to not need to carry a cable. In the future they will improve, but so will iPhone fast wired charging at 18W or whatever was rumored. Wireless will likely lag behind for a while, and then true wireless will be even further behind that trickle charging our devices all day.

I think each technology could have it's place. Wired is for "Oh crap I need power NOW you guys." The Qi is for "It's time for bed let me toss my iPhone down." True wireless could be for "This will keep my iPhone mostly charged throughout the day when I'm not out and about." We might have a few transmitters around our house or office which could negate the need for the first two chargers most of the time, but might have limitations like not being able to fully charge a run down iPhone over night, a high price tag, and other factors such as range or line of sight.

I purchased a 20,000mAh battery from a reputable company for about $40 a few weeks ago. Charges faster than 5W too.
It charges wirelessly using Qi technology? Send me a link.

Why wouldn’t you just use a cable?
Surely there is some kind of loss charging wirelessly so why wouldn’t you want to maximise the batteries power?

Not to mention battery degradation.
I’ve charged my iPhone 8 Plus with only Qi (Belkin model from apple) and my battery health is 85% not even a year old. Could just be bad luck I suppose.

Someone else must be making it for them and they are putting their logo on it. Definitely are not 18650 or 2170 cells in that thing.

As Apple is getting into cars, Tesla has been dabbing in phones. Look up the rumored Tesla phones.

I’ll never buy one though I love the cars. One reason I won’t. One word. Android.

You can tell a bunch of people here don't even realize this battery can charge wirelessly too...

Are they though? It has a 6000mAh battery. Mophie charges $60 for their 10000mAh version. It’s a premium device, but I wouldn’t say it’s a significant premium. There are various off brand versions for cheaper, but with all the garbage sold on Amazon I’d not want to risk buying any charger that isn’t well known. Sucks that it’s not 7.5W or better, especially since the new iPhone will likely support 10W.

Assuming the charger ever goes back on sale, I’d still not buy it on branding alone. Tesla doesn’t really have a track record regarding these kinds of accessories and may well just re-brand some off-the-shelf components. I’d like to see a teardown to determine whether or not they went for quality parts.

Well, I personally don't trust random $10 chargers from Amazon and other Apple-certified chargers come much closer in price - and they don't have a battery built in...

I have same pricipless but I have been constantly proven wrong. I have £15 wireless charger from Amazon that I have been using almost a year for Galaxy S8 and also for iPhone X since last November. Zero issues. Cheaper does''t always automatically translate to worse.

He can't manufacture Tesla Model 3's for cost;

Invester: Hey Elon, that car you're selling costs you more to make than sell, what's up with that?

Elon: I don't know; we're all in a simulation anyway

Invester: ???????????

Tesla today launched a new battery-powered Qi-based wireless charger that's designed for iPhones and Android devices that support wireless charging.

Priced at $65, the Tesla Wireless Charger features a 6,000mAh battery so it can be used for charging while on the go. According to Tesla, it's been constructed using the "same design language" used in Tesla energy products like Powerwall, featuring a sleek black or white enclosure.

In addition to wireless charging, the Tesla Wireless Charger includes a built-in USB-C cable for charging USB-C Android devices. For non-USB-C devices, there's a USB-A port that can be used for faster wired charging. A built-in USB-A cable is used to charge the Wireless Charger from any USB-A port.

According to Tesla, the wireless charging is limited to 5W, which is slower than the faster 7.5W charging that is available on the iPhone X, 8, and 8 Plus. Other 5W chargers can be purchased on Amazon for as little as $10, which means Tesla is charging quite a premium for the Tesla branding and design of this accessory.

The Tesla Wireless Charger can be purchased from the Tesla website for $65.

Update: It appears Tesla may have removed the Wireless Charger from its website as the store links to the device no longer work nor does a search on the site bring it up.

Tesla announces blablabla. How much money do you have to pay upfront for this baby before they even think about producing something that looks like their promise?

I love Tesla and would consider buying this... if it were 7.5W. For now I will stick with my much faster Anker chargers, which offer PowerIQ over USB-A and Power Delivery over USB-C.
Yes, they are great value for their money... and you can actually buy them ;)!

Oh a slow chanrging battery pack which I can use to charge my phone wirelessly on the go, now it sounds like a bargain.
Just because things can be made doesn’t mean that it should be.

Sticking to themes through the full portfolio Musk has... to go along with Not-A-Flamethrower... this should be to the point... The Wireless Wireless Charger.

The whole concept of wireless charging external batteries just doesn't make sense. If one needs to use such batteries, they are in urgent need of some juice to their phone, and the fastest charging speed is needed. Just a USB-C port with PD and a short USB-C to lightning cable can provide 3-4x faster charging to your iPhone X and 8, why stuck with 5w or even 7.5w wireless charging?
