I'd imagine they'll be as "level-headed" as the comments its founder shares on social media and on stage...

Though I'd never buy a Tesla, what are the odds they implement CarPlay Ultra?
The article has been updated to say it will not be Carplay Ultra.
I don't know, I think Mark is crazy if he thinks this is happening. Tesla's system is too integrated for them to add this and still work well. I honestly thought I would miss CarPlay a lot when I got my Tesla but I don't miss it. Having Waze up on the screen would be nice but Tesla nav is so smooth. I have Apple Music right on the car so don't really need that from CarPlay. And I don't do texting while driving so I don't mind not having the integrated Messages app.

If this ends up happening, I wonder if this will be wireless CarPlay or require your phone to be connected via USB-C.

All the politics / Elon stuff aside, I wonder how they are going to integrate CarPlay and FSD considering FSD relies heavily on the awful Tesla navigation.

My guess is that they won’t integrate at all.

I loved CarPlay in my old car but after switching to Tesla I didn’t miss it. Music is there, Google Maps is there, phone contacts are there. Still looking forward to having this rather than needing it at some point and not having the option
For me, iMessage support is the key missing feature. Can't do group texts from the car. But do miss apps like Overcast too.

This still might not sway some buyers given many grievances against Tesla are about Elon but I’m glad they’re deciding to add CarPlay now.

Now we need to keep pressure on Rivian to reverse course.

They can't integrate. Apple doesn't support anything like that on the Carplay side. Apple Maps tell the driver where to go, they don't tell the car where to go, there's no APIs for that.

People are allowed to change their minds. Good for Tesla to go anti GM and give people options. This has been requested for a long time by customers and I’m sure Apple is happy as well.
Companies like GM and most legacy car manufacturers are still stuck in the 00s. Their plan is probably to charge you for simple things like Maps even though its free on the phone.

As a Tesla owner I can't tell you how awesome this would be, but I can't see how it's actually possible. Tesla has one of the best car interfaces available, but no way I can see them capitulating in this way

Not sure it's really "capitulating," they could easily just allow users to have CarPlay in one section while keeping the controls and stuff separate.

As an avid user of CarPlay in my previous car and using Tesla's own UI on my new car, I can clearly say that I do not miss CarPlay even one bit.

I have Apple Music, Apple Podcasts on Tesla OS. I can connect my YouTube and Netflix accounts. Tesla's Map works great and navigation is also very clear.

I don't see any value here but surely some would like it.

Tesla's OS might be the only car system that can truly eliminate any need for a wrap like AndroidAuto/Carplay. It's that good.

With CarPlay Ultra the manufacturer can "punch through" the CarPlay interface and offer their own for things that Apple doesn't officially support. It's not particularly complicated, especially in a Tesla where there's plenty of screen space for both.

That's for Carplay Ultra, which Tesla is not considering supporting at this time.

I suppose they could do it through their app, though, you make your app have some controls through Carplay and it can be done like Porsche did (without Ultra). Kind of a clunker though.

I still wouldn't buy one.

1) They're junk.
2) Elon will just get pissy with Apple and take it away when he gets upset.
They’re by far the most popular and prevalent EV on the market. They were the first EV that didn’t look goofy af and in fact actually looked cool. Millions of people wouldnt own and keep and rave about them if theyre junk.
