I was very close to getting a Model 3 over my Bolt EUV. CarPlay ended up being a factor when I made the decision.

If this news is true, a Model 3 might be my next car. Not too crazy about the CEO, but every Tesla I’ve been in has been a nice experience.

Am I the only one who doesn’t think CarPlay is that amazing? It’s not bad at all and way better than most car UI’s but people act like it’s the most game changing to have or not have on their car…

you wish. #1 best selling car in the world in the past couple of years.

Absolutely not true...did you hear this from Elon?

If we're talking just the US, the best-selling cars of 2025 are:

1. Ford F-Series
2. Chevy Silverado
3. Toyota RAV4
...
7. Toyota Camry
8. Tesla Model Y

The Model Y was #4 in 2024 and #5 in 2023.

Global numbers are harder to find, but looks like the RAV4 topped the list in 2025 and 2024. Actually, the only year a Tesla was the world's best-selling car was 2023, after 20+ years of Toyota dominating.

When my Q7 lease was up I thought CarPlay would be the dealbreaker until I actually started using the infotainment center in Tesla. I don't even think about CarPlay anymore but would definitely welcome it as an option. Every virtuous person in here commenting negatively are too emotionally invested and should probably go through their household and analyze where the products they bought came from. Tesla is hands down the best car I have ever driven and will continue to buy them as their technology is so far ahead of any competitor.

Did Tesla ever explicitly oppose CarPlay or did they just ignore customers' requests for it? Not a Tesla owner, so just curious.

Yes you can criticize, but when you call the best modern USA based car company "junk", I think that deserves some push back. My father owned a car dealership for 30+ years so I know a few things about cars... Teslas are reliable, pushing new technology, they are anything but "junk". They are head and shoulder beyond what any other USA company is doing and single handedly changed the car industry world wide. Elon was not the founder but he made it the company it is today.

The bar for American car companies is practically subterranean so that isn't saying much. And Teslas were reliable at one time, and to some extent still are, but getting service is a nightmare and it's been widely reported that their assembly and QA, particularly for the interiors, are horrendous.

Tesla owners will defend Tesla to their grave. Sort of like another group I can't mention because this isn't the political forum.
I’ve just finished year 2 of a 3 year lease that started when the Model 3 was facelifted. The car has been reliable but there are some issues.

The indicator buttons on the steering wheel don’t work very well in Europe, where we have plenty of roundabouts in various sizes with often sharp exit angles.

I hate not having parking sensors. Judging how much space is left from the camera is downright scary.

The Autopilot feature (not fsd) works ok-ish but sometimes does a phantom brake manoeuver which basically takes away whatever trust you had in it.

I had an accident with it and it took them 4 months to repair it. And dealing with the repair company was … challenging. One piece of interior boot upholstery took 10 months to arrive.

I got the car end of 2023 because it was 100% tax deductible (I am self-employed) and had the best range for the best price at that time. Some brands have caught up range-wise, but not many have caught up in efficiency. Better range often comes from a much larger battery which results in an even heavier car.

I don’t think I’ll get another EV again. There’s little fun in cornering a 2 ton car. Acceleration is great but pointless in heavy traffic. If I were to get another EV it wouldn’t be a Tesla. Their only model I really like (the S) is out of my budget.

It does a lot of things right but on rare occasions it feels like a downright scary piece of beta software.

No defending it to the grave from me.

It's personal preference, no? My wife owned two Teslas (x and 3) and would swap between the two every few weeks...well they were company cars, but she owned the company, so.. Anyway, she used the interface for years and never cared for it; at least in hindsight. CarPlay never mattered as she has never owned an iPhone.

These days, she wouldn't drive a Tesla if you gave it to her. She still drives an electric, however.

I agree they can do better on interior materials and a few other things, but overall Im very happy with mine. At the end of the day its not a luxury car, but people expect a luxury interior for that price, so I know where you are coming from. Lucid fixes that issue but their price is also astronomical.

I tried one of those internet bluetooth CarPlay work arounds for my new Model 3 and it actually worked well, had some connectivity issues sometimes. It used the browser window for the display so similar to what they are talking about. But, I found myself switching back because I hate to say it but the Tesla interface is kind of better.

I haven’t got a single misaligned panel on mine (facelift Model 3) but it was made in China, not USA. Maybe that makes a difference.

You’re right about the interior. I find it visually appealing enough but things like the floormats are insanely thin. The alcantara on the doorcards and the material of the seats feel dodgy too, although the seats are comfortable.

It’s like they use the absolute cheapest material they can without really looking cheap.

I would not use it in my Tesla. What Tesla has is way better then CarPlay which looks like kids blocks in comparison. apple does do the messaging better but that is about it. Also what would CarPlay Ultra bring to Tesla vehicles? Only two of their models have 2 screens. The X and the S. Everything else is a single screen and unless Apple could handle thinks. like FSD being turned on and off again it would not bring anything actually useful outside of making it look like a kids car inside.

Well other apps for a start... You may not need them but other might.

Tesla must be really hurting for sales if they’re capitulating on this.

But if you buy a Tesla in 2025 most people will negatively judge you for it, and for good reason. It’s a toxic brand.

Only if they are children. "Toxic Brand"... what complete and utter nonsense. Most people?!

200,000 people work for Tesla and the they make the best EVs overall. A lot are more luxurious. A lot are cheaper. Some far east brands are great, but most are built like 1980s cars with battery slapped on. Traditional Brands are forcing you into their dealer and service network ( ev's barely need servicing ) Tesla are built different and have countless tech advancements others just do not have.

I don’t think anyone thinks CarPlay is amazing. But it is better than what most manufacturers are capable of, especially when in this day and age, there are still base models that charge extra for navigation.

But it also goes beyond that since manufacturers now also like to force subscriptions for things like traffic data or updated maps.

And then we need to consider media streaming which many manufacturers still don’t do well. And among those that do it well, it’ll still be behind what I’ve got on my phone.

Can’t. Stop. Laughing. How may people are furious at this right now?

- The Tesla shills who claim (wrongly) that CarPlay is useless and factory systems are much better.
- The Apple haters who are happy Tesla (and others) don’t support CarPlay and see it as confirmation that factory systems are better.

Tesla's adoption of CarPlay will involve the feature operating "within a window inside its broader interface," rather than being a full-screen experience like it is in most vehicles.
This should definitely be the case. The large screen is used for all the car's controls so CarPlay can't take up the whole screen lest you lose access to controls. Also I don't think CarPlay is designed to take up a large especially vertical screen so it would probably look odd.
