Ok? So it fully self drives. Not sure what you're trying to argue about.
Not argueing. Just pointing out that it’s not about just fully self driving alone though, is it? Sure, I see the steering wheel move and the car brakes and accelerates. But that’s not the end goal. The end goal of a car (and FSD) is to get from your starting point to your destination without human intervention.

No one at Tesla is clapping their hands and calling it a day because the car can steer itself, brake and accelerate. Those are just the necessary basics to reach the ultimate goal: to take me to my destination with me sleeping on the back seat.

So yes: in a way full self driving has been achieved, if your definition of FSD consists of “the car can steer, brake and accelerate”. But it’s not a taxi yet.

In fact, Tesla asks that you supervise that full self driving. And they will hold you accountable if there was a crash because of you not supervising.

So in that sense, it’s not full self driving.

There’s a big difference between those 2.

I like Carplay and we have it on our Mazda. I just don’t see what benefit it would add given how well Tesla’s navigation is integrated with the charger network.

I mean, we like Waze on Carplay but not having the detailed charger info would be a setback.

Navigation and charging is a much bigger priority for us than music, messages and whatever else comes with Carplay.

I don’t think anyone, at least not me, is advocating replacing whatever system is there. It’s about having the option. If Tesla or whatever manufacturer system is better then let the user decide.

I was a big fan of CarPlay, even paying €900 for it to be unlocked in a new Merc, but after driving a Tesla you realise it’s the only car manufacturer that makes a UI that’s so good you don’t miss it, but it’s great to have options.

Isn’t it rumoured that Apple will be using StarLink satellites going forward, maybe this is the star of a new relationship.
Hopefully it paves the way for Apple Car Key’s, that would actually be useful.

I've owned two model 3s, now on a Model Y, and my wife has a 2024 model 3. We both had CarPlay before and we both liked CarPlay as much as the next person.

Neither one of us have missed it, Tesla's software is really that good.

With that said adding CarPlay is a big win. Not only for people that still miss it, but for some customers that won't even try a car without it this is perfect.

I'm always in favor of having more choices.

Drove cars with CarPlay for 7 years. Loved it. Last 3 years with a Tesla M3, don't miss CP much. Tesla's implementation is so much smoother. Zero lag. My wife's Volvo with CP is so slow.

I can't imagine what CP in a Tesla would do for me. It will be interesting to try it out.

It's not an opinion. A quick Google search will show you the build quality is absolute dog ****.
It very much depends on which model you buy and where the car is made. Model Ys made in Germany and Model 3s made in China are properly built. I can’t fault mine which was made in China.

The worrying thing with Tesla is that panel gap issues seem to happen mostly on Model S and X, which are very old models. The fact that Tesla can’t get panel gaps right on a model that has existed for over a decade … there’s just no excuse for that.

Those cars are in a price bracket where you certainly expect better.

It would be nice to be able to use the Music app through Carplay. The Music app in the Tesla UI is lacking some very, very basic functionality.

Probably in some sort of windowed format to offer apps available to CarPlay? It's expensive to keep porting apps to Tesla platform (Zoom for example is one among many conferencing apps).

The TRON as was fun. My son loved it but it lead to a funny conversation with my wife. My son was like, Mommy, Daddy took me on the motorcycle and we went 1,2,3 fast like a rocket, vroom vroom vroom.
Glad you enjoyed it 😊👍🏼. I'm a big fan of NIN myself. I just thought the blinker sounds were annoying, so I switched it off fairly quickly.

I like how everyone says they used carplay before getting a Tesla and now dont miss it. I definitely miss it. Apple music and the text message system on tesla suckkk. The supercharger navigation and smoothness of the UI is the only great thing. I'd still rather have carplay in our Model Y anyday. I even prefered my old Lightnings crappy UI because it had the option of Carplay to take over the screen.

If Tesla really wants to reverse their sales decline they could try not having a CEO who has publicly aligned himself opposite to the political views of the core userbase, and who isn't defrauding customers and investors with the "FSD" scam.

I drive a Model 3, and the blend of hardware and software is the best I’ve ever experienced in a car. It just works. I don’t need CarPlay, and honestly, I can’t see myself buying another make at this point. I’ve never owned a vehicle I’ve been more satisfied with.

People can argue politics or take shots at Elon, but none of that changes the fact that the product is excellent. I see a lot of criticism about FSD, too, but I’ve logged around 20,000 miles with it and I have nothing but praise. I use it so often that manually driving a car feels strange now.

Like Apple products, most of the loudest critics are people who have never actually used one or are just closed-minded idiots. The experience speaks for itself.

Cars I’ve owned:
1993 Mazda Protege
1996 Geo Metro
1995 Jeep Cherokee
2001 BMW 325i
2007 Mazda MX-5
2006 BMW 525i
2010 Jeep Compass Limited
2013 Acura ILX
2014 Acura MDX
2012 Infiniti G35x
2013 Infiniti JX35
2009 Honda Element
2015 Mercedes Benz C-300
2016 Mercedes Benz CLA-250
2015 Mercedes Benz GLK-350
2023 Tesla Model 3 RWD

As an owner of a Tesla, here's my take:

1. Hell has frozen over.

2. Elon is smart, even though he's a jerk. He knows it will boost Tesla sales, and he needs that now that the EV tax credit is gone.

3. CarPlay will be in a sandboxed window within the interface. This is totally fine.

4. Tesla's infotainment system is better than CarPlay in every way EXCEPT I can't choose the mapping system I want. Tesla's is good, but it's not as good as Waze and/or Google Maps. For my needs, I'd prefer Waze, as I get the "Police ahead" alerts.

5. Regardless, I, and most people, will probably not use CarPlay even if they add it. And most buyers who are sold on the CarPlay integration will most likely switch to just using Tesla's integrated system. Elon knows this, which is why they are adding it... because in the end it's a non-factor. Why?

- Tesla's system automatically includes Supercharger stops along a long-distance route. Not only that, but it gives you extreme details about how long it will take to charge, how long the wait is, battery levels upon arrival, etc etc. It's all integrated. CarPlay can't do this.

- Tesla's system also has all kinds of other navigational necessities, like using navigational data for Supervised Self-Driving to get you from point A to point B. CarPlay can't do this.

- Tesla's system is extremely easy to use. In my opinion, as easy as CarPlay.

This is a win-win-win for Tesla, Apple, and consumers, and in the end I think Tesla wins the most.

And just to throw in my opinion about Tesla cars: I love my Tesla. It's the best car I've ever owned, and I'm 46 and have owned countless cars, including Honda, Toyota, Mercedes, Chevy, and so on. I've also rented 100's of cars as I fly nearly 60 times a year. I don't understand the hate with them at all. I've taken it on 5-day cross-country loops around the USA with no charging issues in rural states like Mississippi and Arkansas. I've done 1000's of hours on self-driving without a crash or major mishap. I've got one of the fastest cars ever made for under $50k. I have no maintenance... no oil changes, no brake pads, no fluids at all. Zero maintenance besides tires. My car has over 100k miles on it with no battery issues. I'll continue to buy Tesla as long as they have these advantages over other manufactures, point blank. I genuinely don't understand the hate, and I feel like most people who don't like them have never driven them for any extended period of time. It's literally the best car purchase I've ever made.
