I can’t even fathom turning it off on the watch. AOD was a game changer on watches and my series 5 gets the same battery life as my series 2 without... which is a full day charge. I charge every night while Sleeping.
I agree. I occasionally activate theater mode to turn the screen off. But most of the time I genuinely love the AOD feature on my Ultra and 14 Pro. I also listen a lot to music on a daily basis and it’s nice to have to ability to instantaneously see what song your listening to. AOD is not for everyone, I understand that. But hey, each to their own, right.

I tried the wallpaper off, but there is some delay sometimes on pick up for screen to turn on.

It’s very slight… I don’t know maybe it’s a subjective thing, but I find the experience much less jarring already having the wallpaper showing.

Giving it another go to see if 16.2 made improvement to it.
Okay update. No lag, and it’s a nice way to see if the screen is unlocked or not.

Looking at the graph, I only ask that they learn to present data properly. A wordy title is no substitute for properly labeling axes on a graph. To be explicit, axes should always be labeled "Parameter (Units)."

I have the 14 Pro Max and have no issues with battery. I use a dynamic background that reflects the local weather, with the battery, fitness and weather widgets. All-day battery with plenty of juice leftover at the end of the day, even with a few hours of streaming audio, video and browsing.

Regardless of the outcome iPhone 14 Pro Max has an amazing battery life.
The 14 pro on the other hand seems to have worse battery life than the 13 pro , even with AOD disabled

I have a 11 pro max but can’t stand its size anymore and am planning to go either 15 or 15 pro next year… and I gotta say the battery is concerning

Hopefully the 3nm brings better battery life

Display Off retains 100% battery after 24 hours? No, its still on your network, pinging locations, backing up to icloud, etc.
I thought this too. Maybe they are only testing draw from the display.

@TheYayAreaLiving 🎗 btw as woman aren’t you bothered by the PM size coupled with its squared edges ?
No sir! Not at all. I actually want Apple to make the iPhone Pro Max Bigger. It definitely needs to get wider now. Upgraded to Pro Max size when iPhone 6 came out. Never been downgraded to a smaller size since then. I just love the overall size, battery life, and extra screen ratio. Well satisfied with it! I don't think I will ever prefer downgrading to a Pro screen size.

I was too busy around the holidays and completely forgot about this new wallpaper feature. Installing now, lol.

I feel like having the text-only will make me feel less like the phone display is activating out of the corner of my eye, like it's getting a notification. If it improves battery life then that's only a bonus. I don't care much about burn-in because I do the iPhone Upgrade Program every year. Definitely wouldn't use this on something like an iPad if they offer it after they move to OLED. I keep my iPads for several years and then usually hand them down to my kids or grandparents.

After seeing someone here post a concern about screen burn on their 14 Pro, I helped may daughter turn off AOD on her 14 Pro Max. She hasn't missed AOD at all. I recently got an Apple Watch Series 8 and I turned off AOD on that as well.
People here post concerns about EVERYTHING. Be careful trusting that a forum member has thought of things that Apple engineers haven’t.

This feature is a waste of battery on both phone and watch. I have noticeable much improved battery (around 20%) with both with it turned off.

The first thing I disabled on my Apple Watch was the AoD… I need a display only when I look at it. Don’t need it to drain my battery and ruin my oled screen just for the sake of it.
Even worse for an iPhone.
This is a very silly option in my opinion

I leave it on and my wife leaves it off.

At times when I don‘t really care to see the updates it provides I just put my phone face down which turns it off.

I don't think they got the point of why people wanted AOD which was getting quick info without draining the battery.
That said, it's impressive how efficient it is for what it does.

Exactly. A good point. Screen burning is, always has been and always will be a factor for an OLED display. The fact that Samsung (screen manufacturer) is using some protection for the issue and Apple doesn’t , says a lot.

Results for bright environment is not correct. People should stop testing battery life based on discharging from 100% to something like 90/80/50, because first percents will be keeped longer around 100 to understand currect real max capacity and to never show you "99%" or less after full charge. Same for macs and other devices.
So, if its 3% discharge in 8 hours, it's also 17% in another 16 hours. Pretty obvious mismatch?
Little more accurate calculation after first 3 procents:
17 / 16 = 1.06%/hour
You can also see how graph is not linear line in first percents, but then it is.

Yeah that's fair, I know lots of folks really like it and it's definitely a brilliant feature.

I have the S8 now (with AOD off) and its battery is fantastic, can get a full day, night, and another day out of it before the battery starts to get a little stressed. Really brilliant technology compared to the original Watch.
Same… I turned off the AOD on the watch. Makes a huge difference when it comes to battery. Plus, it’s winter here, and cold, which usually means long sleeves. Seems pointless to have an AOD when you can’t glance at it anyway because it’s covered by a shirt
The biggest battery drain on Apple Watches is Raise to Wake. It drains more battery than AOD. I keep AOD on and raise to wake off because 90% of the time I need to use my other hand to operate the watch anyway.
