I knew Stage Manager can run on 2020 iPad Pro. Apple was straight up bsing. But glad they got it to work 😄. I don’t use external displays so I don’t mind that part missing.
Yeah, that was not well stated in the article.Ah...okay. Now I understand. Thanks for the info!![]()
In fact, Apple has removed external display support from the iPadOS 16.1 beta entirely, and when it is returned later this year, it will continue to be limited to M1 iPad models.
Uh, the fact that Stage Manager existed in 2006. They called it Shrinkydink. Look it up.
Just let it go. Lol.And no doubt that 2006 app worked to the same level of performance (and camera resolution) as today's Stage Manager while driving a multi-display setup where the external display is a 4K or 5K display. Right?
The strangest part is that MacOS is taking on more of iOS/iPadOS paint every new major OS release, example: System Preferences/Settings.Yeah, I’m somewhat glad that Stage Manager is coming to my 2018 iPad Pro, but in the end, I don’t think Stage Manager really fixes the iPad’s problems.
They could just give it a macOS dual boot option and call it a day, but instead they’re making their iPad team remake basic features from the ground up just so that they won’t be the same as macOS, but that’s proving to be too difficult for them.
Works fine on my 2018 iPad Pro. Same like an M1. Didn’t notice any issues.Guys, How about actual “reviews” of how is it working as a beta for now?.
They’ll most likely unify the platforms soon. The strangest part is that MacOS is taking on more of iOS/iPadOS paint every new major OS release, example: System Preferences/Settings.
Yet iPadOS and iPad cannot do something as simple as extended display mode. Apparently to accomplish that we need M1, I wonder what all those Intel chips prior to M1 were capable of on a Mac. SMHAnd let’s not forget that just about any iPad (not just Pro models) running iPadOS 16 is going to be orders of magnitude more powerful than the computers that first ran Stage Manager on external displays back in the day.
Are we to expect StageManager on MacOS next year. They’ll most likely unify the platforms soon.
Of course. You're not able to answer my question.Just let it go. Lol.
It’s on macOS Ventura. Are we to expect StageManager on MacOS next year.
Apple will say you need an M3 iPad for that 😝Man, I just wish the iPads would run Mac OS when docked and “iPad OS” when undocked. One device for everything. Paired with an Apple Watch Ultra instead of phone…. (The ultra watch with cellular activated is almost the first device that I can say I could go without a phone for a few hours at a time)
I would pay for that….
No they couldn't. The iPad has no desktop, so the code is radically different between macOS and iPadOS implementations. Notice that even with external display in prior betas, you could not drag apps between each monitor. That is the limitation of not having a desktop. None of the monitor groups interact in any way with the other. MacOS is different where you could do pretty much anything you wanted to do. To make it the same, Apple would have to introduce the desktop to the iPad and that creates new issues.I don’t understand what was wrong with the present AppSwitcher and Extended Display Mode be incorporated. This just seems like Apple is overthinking this implementation, it could have borrowed what was already present on MacOS.
Would prefer extended display mode vice StageManager, I have no issues with the present AppSwitcher.I am glad they were able to do this, but I am still not going to use it. It seems like such a poor use of the limited screen real estate to work that way.
Works great on my 2018 gen 3 IPad Pro. Glad we get to test and use it I do not need external monitor since I dont have one just my macbook pro 15 inchGood news for those of us rocking the 2018 iPad Pro, one of the most enduring products Apple has ever released!
Bad news for the cynics who think Apple artificially limits software features just to drive sales.
An implementation of MacOS Spaces would also be out of the question considering AppSwitcher looks like a similar implementation. No they couldn't. The iPad has no desktop, so the code is radically different between macOS and iPadOS implementations. When external display support returns, Globe-Control-Backslash will be your best friend. That is the keyboard toggle to move apps between monitors.
Why do you keep pushing the "2006 idea" thing? To do certain things on a desktop OS, you need the circuitry to be built into the SoC to support basic functions that don't exist in A-series chips. It doesn't matter if an idea was introduced in 1806. If it isn't present, it can't be used. What it seems like Apple did was to figure out a workaround for the circuitry that wasn't present on the A-series.They’re only bringing it to older models because they got caught trying to limit a 2006 idea to their most powerful SOC claiming “hardware limitation.” It’s blatantly obvious if you’re not an apologist fanboy.
I'm betting they delayed the second monitor support because it was buggy. If you followed Fernando at 9to5Mac, he was saying for several betas now that the feature was working really well on the main iPad monitor but was buggy as heck on the external monitor. It seems Apple agrees with Fernando and pushed out external monitor support until they can fix it. This is an admission by Apple that they can't fix it in time for when the new iPad Pros and iPad 10 are introduced sometime next month. At least Apple relented and give Stage Manager to previous gen iPad Pro. That's some people power proof there.
As for the external display support that got dropped on 16.1 beta, does that means the M1 ipad Pro is not gonna be able to use it? If that's the case, then I think there's a serious issue with that feature that made Apple dropped it like it's hot temporarily.
