Why not have the text go to both..?

It'd be really annoying to have the text alert go off all the time while you're on the computer and the phone is in your pocket, or come back to the computer to see a bunch of messages you already read on the phone. Granted, a copy of the text message will be in the iPhone to keep the conversation consistent but it won't pop up while you're at the computer.

BluePhoneElite2 works by if the message is read on the phone, then it gets marked as read and when you get back to your computer and within Bluetooth range, it won't show up as a read message. And I'd turn my iPhone on silent if I were to do that - you don't even have to take the phone out your pocket to silence it.

Yes, like that but make it go both ways and automated using the face detection technology (which can be applied to many other things, multitouch keyboard, etc.). It'd be as convenient as OTA syncing of iCal and Address Book via MobileMe.

I can't get BluePhoneElite to install properly, maybe it's cause I'm on 3.0? Does anyone know if it's supported?

It says on the website's compatibility list that pretty much the only thing supported with the iPhone is using your laptop as a bluetooth headset.

The text features are not supported.

I wish they were, it would definitely make me go back to the iPhone.

What is wrong with everyone who says "just take out your phone."

Havent we always been striving for complete convenience and integration?

Email, SMS, and IM have completely different purposes. Email is for longer messages and isnt really useful if you wanna have a conversation with hundreds of short replies. IM is always great but most people only use it when they are at their macs or pcs.

But SMS is like an always on communication, so if I wanted to immediately contact someone while working at my computer, or respond to someone, why can't I just type it right there instead of on my phone.

Its like if GTA4 came out for the PSP only - I would think why can't I play this on my PS3 on a huge HDTV???

You mean like having your text messages forwarded to your computer? I think there is already a way to do that with iChat/Adium/Aim?

The facepalm picture is getting old and immature. Not everyone think it's a dumb idea.

And, no, it's completely different from forwarding text messages via AIM/iChat. Read the thread.

What's up with all this? People are allowed to voice their opinions. You have your opinion of this and others have their own. What would be the point of discussion and forums if there was only one point of view?

What's up with all what? I didn't say anything about not voicing opinions but you don't have to be rude about it. You can say whatever you want and give your opinion on why you think its a bad idea but their is no need to be rude and flat out tell people their ideas are stupid.

Hey guys i know this is an old thread but ive found a way to do this very thing.
However it involves spending a little money, but hey it works.

requirements:
1. A Jailbroken iPhone
2. MyWi (via Cydia commerical package $19.99)
3. treAsonSMS ( via Cydia free)
4. SBsettings (optional just an easy way to get your ip)

treAsonSMS lets you connect to your iphone through a wireless network to send SMS messages. to use it you just open your web browser and type in the internal ip address of your iphone and specify the port ( ex. 192.168.1.20:8080). The problem is you may not always be around a wifi network. You must create one using MyWi. I used to use this method to send texts all the time in class...but really email works just as well( ie number@txt.att.net) and it saves my iphones battery.

Hell, at the very least you bothered searching and posting in the appropriate thread.

Edit: Just tried it and it worked actually. Not too bad but I can't imagine ever using it.

Since we're on the topic I'll throw in my solution. I use my Google Voice number for all of my SMS needs anyway (free texting), and when I'm on my computer I use VoiceMac to send and receive SMS messages.

Personally, I still consider it a stupid idea.

I agree for the most part, as tethering goes overboard, but what I would like to see is a Chat Program from the SERVICE PROVIDER that lets you send sms from your number that updates not just in program but also on your phone, to keep conversations consistent.

That...doesn't make sense, there are many AAA games that are only released on the PSP, not the PS2 or 3.
