This is kinda the same thing some ATT told me. He said I can only get the discount if there is another phone on my account, and the iphone cant be the primary phone. I hate this No, then Yes bull***t. Im just gonna plan without it, and if can be applied, then great.
you WILL get the discount with the new iPhone. It is now the same as any other att smart phone. the reason we cant on the 2G iPhone is because of the special contract between at&t and apple. apparently that contract has changed with the release of the 3G iPhone

I sure hope so. I get 19% with one of my jobs. And we have to set up the discount thru ATT, and not Apple? That'll just be 2 pitstops I have to make on Friday.

I just called AT&T and was told no plan discounts on the new 3G iPhone. How true this is, I don't really know...

Sorry, I'm a bit confused by all of this.

I'm on my parents' family plan, and only I will be upgrading to the iPhone 3G on July 11th. I attend college at a U.S. 4-year university. Am I eligible for any type of discount on anything, and if so, how do I go about getting it?

well thats so strange, perhaps that is just for your particular discount? because I spoke with a woman about it for an hour last night and she assured me I would be eligible and went as far as sending me an email with the details

Any info on my question? What would the percentage savings be and which part of the plan would it be applied to?

calm down, your post was barely an hour old, you have to give it time to get answered. or, better yet, actually read the first few posts in the thread and find this link, which will help you find out your eligibility https://www.wireless.att.com/business/authenticate/

is there an education discount for buying the 3g iphone?? 20% would be nice for teachers!!

Their is no discount on the phone. It seems that ATT doesn't have its act together on what they are telling their reps about the plan discounts either because everyone seems to be getting mixed responses.

I just stopped by my university bookstore and found something interesting. We have an AT&T kiosk and while no one was there staffing it, there was an iPhone 3G flier which had the following message printed at the bottom.

The Bookstore will be staffed and stocked on Launch Day. Stop by and activate your new iPhone 3G.
Employee and Student Discounts offered with picture ID.

I would assume that it is just talking about a discount on the service not the equipment. It may be worth while to check out your school bookstore.

where was this?

I got a link here from our AT&T Boeing Rep with the details.

They will be giving Boeing customers the standard 25% discount on the iPhone 3G. This is for the service plan. The standard equipment pricing (ie. the iPhone) will remain at the $199 level for the 8GB iPhone 3G.

Like ive said i really don't think ATT reps have any idea what is going on because most of them are incompetent. However lets examine that in an ATT press release said something along the lines that the IPhone will have no special treatment, ie the $20 unlimited data plan. That being said, if no special treatment really means no special treatment, then all just like a normal smart-phone university and corporate discounts should apply, in theory. However if this may make sense to us, ATT most of the time doesn't make much sense.
