i bought my mbp less then 6 months ago, and when i did about 2 weeks later they came out with the iwork09 and ilife 09. i had the 08. i felt shafted that i would have to pay full price for these updates since i didnt "buy my stuff" at the right time.

I can understand how people feel about the whole computer being updated. i love my mbp, and i wouldnt want to trade it in for the new one. mine has been rock solid, no issues. i know when i hit the power button, it will come on, and if by some chance it doesnt, i just give good old apple a call and they will fix it.

for the people that just bought theres and feel shafted, your not the only one
best bet, try to talk to an apple store manager and hope for the best. keep in mind, many people here (myself included) feel the one's we have are great.

I don't know why you fools take the chance and buy so close to WWDC.

It's easy now to say how dumb someone was for buying a computer just before an update. I remember just before WWDC there were several posters on this very forum who insisted that there would be absolutely no changes to notebooks at that event. In fact, a few prominent members even said there would be no possiblity of changes for "months". Members who even asked the question were called "stupid" and insulted in various ways.

Of course, when you have a forum filled with (some) arrogant nerds one can expect no less--but don't blame the OP.

you are right..i just asked opinion...and some peoples are not polite.....

Apple takes care of us

I bought an iMac in January... 35 days later they drop the price. Couldn't do anything for me... I get a MacBook Pro 28 days ago for graduation. This time, Apple says they will wave the restocking fee I just have to pay the shipping and that I can return it. Now when I reorder my 15" with the 2.88 and 500GB HDD for less than what my parents paid for my graduation present I will be able to get a free iPod since that promo just started plus 200 in my pocket from the rebate. Apple hooked me up thankfully and I was happy!

I bought new MBP 17"" on 23 May $2.799..
Why the new upgrade is $ 2499.00? and now What Can I do?
This is not good from Apple...
I'm disappointed about it!

Nobody is going to feel sorry for you , if you would have gone to the buyers guide it would have told you 2 months ago DO NOT BUY , UPDATE WILL COME SOON , i guess you didnt belive in it lol :D

What do you mean this is not good from Apple. This is one of the best thing Apple has EVER done price cut.

What did you want/expect even higher price and not that much of a speed boost.

Just want to say SHAME on you and tough.

Unless you upgrade or buy laptop after every update you cant stay updated with tech.

You should have done your research Apple is known to update their macbooks twice yearly that has been their trend.

Unless you are thick or stupid and didnt know that i would suggest stop crying and be happy of what you got.

Another suggestion sell your old Macbook and then buy the new one.

Shame once again. Tough luck

My friend..excuse me..I don't need to buy new one MBP..Apple store replaced with new one updated.. because I explained my situation...and I had right...so ...I got new one and 300 $ back...I'm sorry for you...try to read better the thread...

That makes perfect sense. Sign up for a newsletter or something, have the company tell you when and what they're updating, so things like this don't happen.

There is no logic here!

There will always be a cut-off date somewhere. If you get notified one month before an update, then the people who just missed the notification will feel aggrieved. So you then have to notify people that a notification is going to be sent out. Then, the people who just miss the notification of the notification feel aggrieved....and so it goes on.

You just have to accept that products will be updated, but the product you've just bought is not suddenly any less capable!

Please don't use that text color!

I returned my uMB after 14 days and they allowed it, just made me pay the restocking fee.

You guys are crazy. Obviously people are upset when they buy a top-of-the-line premium machine through apple, and several days later the same model is less expensive with better technology. It is not the consumer's fault -- they are paying MORE than they need to for an inferior product.

For example, my girlfriend purchased a top of the line MBA from the canadian store for about 3,000 after tax. This was the 1.8ghz with the SSD. She loves the machine.

Then, two weeks later, the same machine is buffed to 2.1ghz and the price is cut by seven hundred dollars. She wanted a top-of-the-line machine, and she paid a premium for it.

Of course, apple was fine to exchange it after a talk on the phone. The fanboyism is kind of ridiculous -- its in apple's best interest to take of their customers, people.

I guess Apple should just not improve technology or cut prices so everyone is happy.

or, they can keep doing what they are doing, and offering returns and exchanges without leaving customers high-and-dry. Why is there a habit here to villainize consumers? They drive business.

Personally, I'm genuinely surprised Apple updated anything besides the iPhone at WWDC. The last time they did that was three years ago in 2006, when they announced the Mac Pro. And that's a professional line, I don't think they've ever updated consumer Macs at WWDC before. (Though I could be wrong.) So I feel for the OP a little bit.

Apple really didn't update its consumer line. It upgraded its professional line, the MacBook Pro.

While it did remove the aluminum MacBook from its offerings, the only real updates were to the Pros.

As far back as I can recall, the last time a consumer line has been updated at WWDC was the 17" iMac G4 at WWDC 2002.

And somebody please answer:

when returning your mbp, what did you do with pre-installed software, such as microsoft office? a guy on the phone mentioned nothing about it or my CTO machine and just issued a RMA for return. I hope they will not refuse return because of this after receiving it.

my opinion is that is not correct for the customers...
I 'm not agree with this way of sale..

It's just the way the computer business works. You should know that seeing as this is a computer forum. Technology is always updating and the businesses are just trying to update their products in order to keep up.

BTW, I've noticed that the only people who seem to be mad when a new update comes out is the people who have macs. Your machine is a perfectly fine machine. You don't need to upgrade. While it would have been better if you hadn't spent so much money, just get over it. Price changes happen all the time in all types of products.

I got a macbook pro a few months ago. I was pissed I got no deals at all.

Now there cheaper, free ipod, and printer, and education discount.

But I came to the fact the technology advances, and as time goes by theres going to be newer and better stuff released.

You seem to be out of touch with reality.

You either expect a manufacture to give a no-cost upgrade to those who bought the previous model ...

-OR-

You don't want them ever to upgrade after YOU buy your computer.

Sorta like buying a new car, then a week later the next year models are released and you prefer a new model color?????

Rules to use when buying a computer ......
1) Define your NEEDS
2) Buy a computer that meets or exceeds your needs.

Assuming that the computer you bought in May 2009, the only logical reason for you to be disappointed 3 weeks later is if you bought a machine that did not fit your needs when you bought it.

Whose fault would that be ?????

Except the extra cash back. Because everyone is loaded, and nobody wants a superior product for a few hundred dollars less than what they got a week ago.

And all the arguing aside -- are YOU a manufacturer of apple products, by the way? -- the manufacturer does INDEED offer exchanges and returns for reasonable cases. I don't understand all the arguing.

thanks ..it was my first MBP...so I just switched from Windows...and I was impatient to buy it,I though the WWDC was only for new Iphone and OS.
However "c'est la vie"..or this is the life......

Gianslup,
I am one of the ones who was able to return my 3 week old 13" alum macbook for the 13" Macbook Pro. Like you the only PC I had ever owned was a windows PC and it was acting very sluggish so one day while shopping in the mall I went into the apple store for the first time and spent over an hour with a sales person learning what an apple product can do. I was reluctant at first because of the price tag and after being assured they never go on sale etc etc and the fact that I was blown away by what I saw I went ahead and purchased the 2.0 alum Macbook.

Had I know about macrumors before hand I would have known better but I didn't find this site until after I had already exchanged my laptop. I was reading the forums on the apple website and found this via a link someone there had posted. BTW, I love this forum.. you guys all rock and the info and help here is outstanding!!!

When I powered up my laptop on the 8th my home page (google news) was highlighting the new laptops...I was mortified! The next day I called the apple store and explained that I was disappointed the salesperson didn't make me aware of this WWDC thing that happens annually and advise me to hold off 3 weeks and see what happens...I was in no hurry to buy.
The person on the phone verified my purchase date and said since it's been 3 weeks I can't waive the restock fee but if you can bring it in tonight you can get a refund to your cc or have the money put on a giftcard.
I showed up there that night, gave them the name of who I spoke to and was told if I wanted to upsize to a more expensive model I wouldn't have to pay the restock fee but I opted to stay with the 13" because with the price drop (100.00) and the 129.90 restock fee it was only going to be 30ish dollars out of pocket to swap.

Gianslup don't procrastinate any longer then you have... you could lose out.
There is a very good chance you will get to swap with a restock fee or get a credit on the price drop if you call or go NOW.

Good luck ! :)

They are not here to villanize anyone. It is the luck of the draw when you buy technology. It is going to be updated at some point. Maybe it's a day, maybe it's 3 months. Their upgrades by no means make the prior machine outdated, so why does everyone think Apple should keep making everyone current. If someone always needs to have the newest, then sell your old one and then buy the new one.

I have now heard of 2 ppl with 3 week old macs on this forum successful with returning their macbooks....paying the restocking fee....and spending a little extra for the new ones.

I guess you can try since u r just outside the 2 weeks.
I can verify that! Only had to pay $16.
