I was real hesitant at first, but it's so much better than the older MBP keyboard. The only thing I hate is how loud it is (i.e. typing in bed next to your fianceé)

The truth is that once I'm used to the new keyboard, turning back to the old keys on my Air suddenly feels weird, and I started missing my new keyboard immediately.

Two weeks and I still suck using it :-(

I've had my MacBook for over a month now and I'm still struggling with the keyboard :( I think it's down to the keys going right to the edge and my hand position, but the amount of incorrect keys I press has increased dramatically. I don't mind the key travel, but I can type much more accurately on my iMac or old MBA keyboard.

Hopefully I'll get used to it over time...

Oh no, someone doesn't like something you do so let's create a thread about something that's been discussed over and over again. While some people may or may not get used to it there is no reason to word it like that.

I've tried a few times now and I just can't get used to it, the keytravel just isn't there for me personally. I had the chance to compare the 2016 and 2015 keys and the difference in typing for me personally has been astoninishing I can fly through the 2015 MBP but I just don't get the "feedback" I need from the 2016 MBP and no, this wouldn't change over time, it's a very personal thing some people may get used to it others never will. One reason might be that I'm used to Cherry MX black switches at home and love typing on that thing so I need some feedback.

Another problem I have with the keyboard is how loud this thing is, having 4 or 5 MBP 2016 next to you is definately noticeable and thanks to the loud keyboard annoying.

I love it to. As I've posted elsewhere, I'm not just fanboying... I genuinely think this is one of the best keyboards I've ever used. I personally find it very comfortable and accurate. I'm only a fair typist, so perhaps that has something to do with it, but I'm more than satisfied.

I agree with you, if I were a much better typist, the keyboard might not have made much of a difference for me. However, I use a couple of fingers on one hand and three fingers on the other and often look at the board. the larger keys are welcomed by my aging eyes as well. I know this makes me sound and even look a bit silly, but the truth is the truth. For this middle of the road typist, the keyboard on the late 2016 MBP is much appreciated.

I'm having to go back to my old 2012 MBP quite often while I troubleshoot all the problems I having with my 2016 version. I find the old keyboard horrible to use in comparison to the new one now, except for the cursor keys which are still easier to locate by touch on the old keyboard.

Obviously there have been keyboard issues. Some don't like the non-uniform sound of the new keyboard which varies significantly from key to key (I can live with that). And I had to send my second 2016 MBP back because two of the keys made a high-pitched popping sound on release when the case reached a certain temperature due to load.

I have to say that I'm liking the keyboard more than I thought I would, but I am still working to be as accurate as I'd like.

This KB is highlighting how other KB's that actuate differently and/or with more force and travel allow you to be a bit sloppier and do a more hunting/feeling/thinking with your fingers without actually registering the keystroke.

On something like a Topre switch I can really hum along and I've noticed that I'm sort of "almost pressing a key" sometime as I move around and my brain works to hit the ones I do want.

I do really find it too loud / not a particularly pleasant sound, but maybe not everyone cares about that as I seem to.
I won't be surprised if the next MBP update has a "40% quieter KB!" as one of the bullet points on the slide @ keynote.

I love the new keyboard too. It is so satisfyingly clicky. I like the look of how close together the keys are. And the backlighting looks so much cleaner. Only been using it for two days and already prefer it- thought it would take a while to get used to!

this keyboard is simply an evolution of the keyboard style Apple prefers to have in its laptops and thinks is the best. And, they are very much in the ballpark. It is a great keyboard, better than the old one and the closer keys mean I can slide between keys faster and therefore type faster.

Using this keyboard, I realised how I was actually in the habit of lifting my fingers in typical hunt and peck fashion (although I still typed about 70 wpm). This new keyboard means I can slide instead of lift and place.

i still don't like it. :( I've gotten used to the new keyboard (and I actually type faster on it), but i still prefer the older style keys from my old MacBook Air. No big deal though.

I have the opposite experience! Every time I go back to my Air I love the keyboard, it reminds me what a downgrade the new one is.

Loud (and unevenly sounding) and with little feel, I think the new one is the worst laptop keyboard I've experienced save for the 12" Macbook.

Love the keyboard, except for the up/down arrow keys. Those are a bit annoying to use.

True. That gap existed for a reason in the first place, and that reason had not changed for them to go ahead and remove the gap. This was blatant visually-pleasing move, that's it.

I do have to comment again that I find the keyboard too loud and even when not too loud, I don't really find the particular sound to be that pleasant honestly.

Maybe not an issue to many - But I do find it more annoying the longer I'm using it I have to say.

I'm a touch typist and really feel at home with the new MBP keyboard. I'm coming from a 2013 MBA. Surely, the keys sound a bit louder but no big deal for me.

Hmm...
Interestingly the noise has already been a problem two nights in a row here in my household..

:-(

I mainly think it's a bummer because Apple is all about this minimalism and it would be amazing to have some minimalism as it pertains to sound from the devices also.

That was a big driving factor behind the new Mac Pro design of the time and I think they sort of missed on that with this keyboard

I am almost sure they did on purpose, since (a) Apple is so minimalistic and (b) most people complaint that the new keyboard on the original rMB was too flat w/o key travel etc... so they gave this 2nd version more sound to "feel" more mechanical... just my guess

I've tried it in a shop, and liked the new MacBook Pro keyboard….. better than the MacBook one, which I was ambivalent about.

At home I use a full sized, wired Apple keyboard (with a Mac Mini) which is fine for my needs.

They are louder than my '12 rMBP for sure, but the keys are bigger and take less effort to actually hit. I am a reasonably fast typer but I feel that even though I've only had this thing for 24 hours, I am typing faster and using less effort. Overall, I am very pleased with the keyboard overall.

I hate the battery life, I hate the crappy overall power of the MacBook Pro, I hate the lack of ports, but the keyboard... I like quite a bit! I actually really, really like it. The only thing I don't like about it if at all is when my nails get even a little long, my typing needs to adjust for it. Luckily, I hate having long nails so I keep it pretty short.

while I like the new style, mine died after 2months. known issue to apple. need to use an external keyboard until I can return to apple. not easy from Afghanistan and apples policies make it even harder. ideas to fix it welcome. it works for 10 mins or so after a few minute shut down

I quite like it overall. I do however don't like the placement of the cursor buttons. I also find some of the function keys to be less responsive than the main keys.

I like the clicky feeling of the keys and even the more clackity sound they make, but I do wish the travel was just a little deeper.

Had 3 macbook Pro 15 inch replaced because of a broken key/spacebar etc. Love they keyboard tho; hope this doesnt happen a 4th time.

I don't know what is 'precise' about a loud keyboard with non-uniform pressure and sticking keys. I think of this latest 'upgrade' as one of the worst design decisions apple has made in quite a while. which is saying something--the touch-bar is worthless.
