And for a fraction of that price you can slap a case on it so when it falls it doesn't break at all. No need for going to the Apple store, no questions, no replacements, no restoring data, nothing.

I mean if that's an acceptable expenditure, go for it. Me? No thanks.

Until you drop it in a puddle....

Until you drop it in a puddle....

Fortunately I am rarely around puddles and do not live in a swimming pool so water damage is not really a concern. If I'm near a puddle I just don't take the thing out of my pocket or whatever.

Hard surfaces, on the other hand, are everywhere. But again, I'm looking into AppleCare.

So you've spent $400 on AppleCare so far. Which means if, in another year, you drop your phone and break it, you'll have spent a total of $580.

I get it, I do. I just think it's... kind of scammy. Like Best Buy protection.

Saying that, I didn't buy AppleCare for my 4S or 5, just my 4 & 5s.

But I've had two iPhone 4 replacements and 1 iPhone 5 replacement, none of them costing me a penny. So I've actually spent around $230 and have had three replacement iPhones.

One time I kicked my phone down a hallway... I dropped it it hit my leg and it went high ad far. It made sounds that you would hear in a drop test video. I have a case and it was ok. I though the screen would be shattered.

I dropped it from my bed the other day. It hit wood floor, no marks whatsoever. Yesterday, I was sitting in front of my Mac and my 5S slipped off my hand and hit the aluminum Apple wireless keyboard, just a 5cm drop (not even a drop). Two small marks in the bottom, pretty symmetric at both sides of the lightning connector.

I mean... SERIOUSLY???

And keep in mind that here in Europe Apple is giving a two years warranty by law.

Note: Apple gives you one year warranty. You have further legal rights against the seller, which may be Apple if you bought from an Apple Store or from Apple's online store, or it may be Vodafone, O2, etc. etc. etc. Whoever you bought it from. And nobody will fix a phone under warranty that was damaged by a drop.

AppleCare saved me from myself at least twice!

Once was with a 3GS that took a tumble down a flight of stairs. The other was with an iPhone 5 that I forgot was in my pocket when I went for a swim. About 5 minutes in I realized that the phone was in my pocket. The funniest bit was when I took it out of my pocket and turned it on...like I happened to buy that one magic phone that can handle being underwater for five minutes!

Anyway, off to the Apple store the next day and paid $99 for my replacement.

I might die from heart attack next year because I don't have an AppleCare+ when I bought an iPhone 5s last month. It might be too late to buy it. :apple:

I dropped a Blackberry in our pool, now i use a life proof fre on my 5S , doesn't matter what happens to it now, about to go video my daughter surfing.

Ah, one time I pulled my htc phone out of my pocket, and instead of getting it out smoothly, it flew out of my hand up into the air. I tried catching it as it was falling, but instead I whacked it with my arm and it went flying across the hallway I was in, where it flew about 15 feet and slammed into a wall, then the floor.

Somehow, I didn't damage it at all.

Since I buy all apple products from the Apple Store, Apple is going to give me the second year.
You are right about a drop, but I'm always using a case.

The second year is not a warranty. Within the second year YOU have to proove that the mistake was there before you bought the product.

Anyway, wherever you buy your iPhone you can directly contact Apple within the first year if there are any issues with your iPhone.

My iPhone 4S had a problem with the home button on the second year, I had to prove nothing: I just took it to the Apple store and they gave me a refurbished no question asked.

It's a warranty, a legal one.

You probably were just lucky i think.
Look it up, usually you have to prove it was not your fault after 1year.

The only proof you have to show is when you device seems to be carelessly used .... Otherwise your warranty is granted.
It's not just Apple.
