I am kind of disappointed that the new arena will only hold 1.1K more than the Igloo. You'd think with all the popularity Pittsburgh is receiving, and the growing number for the NHL in general We'd push to about 3k or so more. I'd love to have a 20K seat arena.

Memories of the late '90s, early '00s attendance, perhaps? ;)

Le Magnifique retired twice :)

Also we break ground today on the new arena! Article if you are interested..

The Air Canada Centre only holds 18,819 for hockey (19,800 for basketball). If you would think there would be a 20,000+ seat stadium anywhere, you'd think it would be in Toronto (AKA the center of the hockey universe). I think the ~19,000 seat arena for hockey is just about right.

On another note, there are reports that Bryan McCabe has lifted his no-trade clause in a limited fashion to allow for a trade from the Leafs, most likely to the Panthers. It would be great if Bouwmeester was the player he would be traded for, but not likely.

I was going about his as my business personality. Figuring they should have went a bit bigger than the normal because let's face it the sport is growing now, and how hard it was to get the deal to pass. Just going on what I would have probably done. :p

Also I heard somewhere that the Bills were going to play up in Toronto, because they are losing money faster than they thought was possible. Can anyone confirm this? Also would anyone even go to it? I figured Canadians care as much about our football then we do about soccer

You're way wrong about that. Toronto has been trying to get an NFL team for decades. Most of my Toronto friends are diehard NFL fans. The Bills are playing in Toronto today, actually. And they'll be playing 8 games over the next 5 years in Toronto, including regular season games.

Regarding the capacity of the new Pens arena:

They may be popular now, and the NHL may be on a slight rise in popularity, but eventually there will be a dip/decline in popularity and/or greatness of the Pens. It looks a lot better to have a 19,000 seat stadium with, let's say, 500 empty seats, than to have a 25,000 seat stadium with 10,000 empty seats.
Just ask the Lightning when they played in the Thunderdome, which had a capacity of 26,000 for hockey, and was nearly empty most of the time. It looked awful.

Haha okay I heard it from my older relatives who like football. I don't much care for it, at all. Either way I take whatever they say with a grain of salt anyways.

Also I get what you are saying but there is a happy medium between our figures somewhere that would bring back the Student rush (I am literally not going to be able to afford to go to more than one or two games) and have the stadium look empty. All I was trying to say with all the hassle they went through, building a new stadium for only 1,100 new seats seems like a waste, then again I have no idea how much attendance we will actually get given more seats. So maybe they ran the stats and have the formula.

It's not about adding extra seats. It's about adding luxury boxes. That's where the real money is. I'd bet anything that the focus ofthe new arena will be on that. Unfortunately, teams care more about bringing in the big $$$ than the students.
