Yea, the Isles won't sign anybody. Avery will walk, Jagr might go to Russia

EDIT: The Lightning strike first. Sign Gary Roberts, Ryan Malone and Vinnie Prospal.

Bye bye Mats..... it was nice knowing you.

Let the flurry of signings and trades begin.

Wow, Edmonton has been pretty active so far, as has Tampa.

Rumors of Spezza also going to the Oil.

There was a rumor of Rolston going to the Isles, but now it's rumored he's going back to the Wild.

I hope the Leafs make some smart moves. There are rumors of Avery and Cujo coming to Toronto. I'm not so sure I like Avery in blue and white- although it would be entertaining having him on the team- but I like the idea of Cujo backing up Toskala.

Fun stuff!

HAPPY CANADA DAY, EH!!!!

The Leafs just signed Jeff Finger.

Jeff Finger??? Who?? 4 years, $14 million? He was only making $475,000 last season! What is that about? Did they rehire John Ferguson to negotiate this signing? Wow. I want to hire that guy's agent to represent me at my next contract renegotiation.

All I have to say is Cliff Fletcher better know what the hell he's doing.

At least CuJo's back- he'll be a good back-up for Toskala.

Very funny. I still can't believe they made that movie.

I think a great cheer for him for when he goes on the ice would be for everyone to just flip the bird. In silence.

Check out the headline from sportsnet.ca:

Leafs give Finger huge raise

That's awesome.

I loved that movie.

That would be a great cheer!

The headline is friggin epic.

The Caps just signed Theodore. The Avs have a deal with Andrew Raycroft, but I really hope they're looking at signing someone else too. We'll see....

I've read that Sakic may not retire and will play next year.

Enjoy Darcy Tucker........ I actually hope he has a great season. He's hit or miss. Him and Ryan Smyth should get along well.

wow. talk about a great time to be an nhl'er.

michael ryder...great rookie year...not so great sophomore season...benched for poor play...gets a 3 year deal worth $4 mill/season.

wade redden...tumultuous times the last few seasons in Ottawa...reported heavy drug use and rehab stints....should be better than he has been and signs a massive deal with the Rangers.

Vancouver - supposed 2 year $20 mill deal to Mats Sundin! WOW! hasn't been signed. i know the cap has gone up, but really? $10 mill/season??? i wonder if that's true or just fluff to raise the price for other teams talking to him?

i personally think Brian Campbell is overrated, but maybe he'll step up and be a nik lidstrom type of guy b/c you would hope for the contract he just signed with Chicago.... 8 years 7.1 mill per?

correct me if i'm wrong, but nhl contracts are guaranteed full contracts right? It's not like the NFL where alot of contracts are back end loaded so teams and players can re-negotiate or have players cut to avoid paying big $$$?

maybe i'm the only one, but it seems nuts to me..

oh, and as a Habs fan, i'm really, really bummed out the Mark Streit moved to Boston. That hurts. I
thought he was a great fit for Mtl. bummer.

Ahem...

He signed a 5 year/$20.5 million contract with the Islanders, not the B's. :D

Michael Ryder, however, signed a 3 year/$12 million contract with the B's.

Ryder or Streit?

What can the Isles expect out of Streit? We honestly need some solid D in front of Ricky. On the PP he's not like Marc-Andre Beregeron (aka the Mad Bomber) is he?

streit. he's a solid dman, plays big for his size and is a great puck mover.
ryder has potential, but i wonder if he'll get back to his scoring ways.

hossa just signed with det. wow.

Well, that's some good news for the Isles. Like I said we are in desperate need of defence and also scoring.

Ryder does have a lot of potential. I like the kid. If I'm not mistaken he grew up on Long Island.

Wow. Just wow. I am really surprised the Pens couldn't sign him. The Pens have lost a couple of really good players. Makes me wonder if they can get back to the Stanley Cup Finals next season.

With Malone and Hossa gone maybe the Flyers can win in the east:D:D:D

Peace

The money that's being thrown around this year is crazy!

It's like everyone has forgotten about that whole lockout thing that happened a few years ago.

Ryder is from The Rock (Newfoundland) I believe.

check this article out...explains perfectly why salaries have gone the way the have and the last line is such a great quote:

Gotta love Burkie! I can't wait until he's the Leafs GM next year......
i'm trying to hold hope with Gainey...first, he signs George Laracques....then trades Grabovski to the Leafs. He's got lots of upside so i don't know what he's thinking...

ugh.

Wow, some big deals with my Pens.

Fleury signed 7 year deal :D
Orpik signed 6 year deal :D
Malkin signed 5 year deal :D
Satan signed 1 year deal :D :D
Fedotenko signed 1 year deal :D :D

"I have a better chance winning the cup in Detroit than in Pittsburgh" - Hossa  I guess he wants to be a permanent rent-a-player, we offered him 7.3 million for 5, 6, and 7 years! he goes with the 7.4 million for 1 year....what a joke. This after all the press conferences saying that he "LOVES it here, and is staying long term" blah

I wish Satan and Feds signed for longer though :(

Next up to do:
Staal contract extension
Coach T contract extension
both are expected to be done within a week, or so the paper says....even losing Malone, Roberts, Hall, Ruutu, Laraque, and Conklin, I feel pretty good of where we look

the hossa thing is interesting. one thought is that he's being dumb for passing on a multi-year deal b/c if he gets hurts, he's lost big $$$.

the other thought is that the salary cap will indeed go up next year and playing on a talented team such as detroit, his stats will theoretically skyrocket, allowing me to be THE top dog as the UFA next off season. btw, that's not a shot against Pitts....they are talented too, but as we saw, Detroit was that much better. I mean, yeesh...can you imagine a line with Hossa and Zetterberg....on the ice with Lidstrom? wowsers.

time will tell if he was being an idiot or not.

pitts made some good signings...locked up some key players for a long time. they'll be good in years to come.
