We all knew Tank and Miro were gonna be gone from the Island.

I'd like to think you'll get more production out of them then we did, as you have a much better team.

If not, well you've been warned.

Whenever Miro scored a goal we called it a "Miro Sighting" simply because he doesn't score as much anymore.

:p We shall see, hopefully Miro fits in with Sid and Dupuis. I see Fedotenko playing with Malkin and Sykora, Feds plays a similar style to Malone (correct?) so he should fit in perfect there....

surely he's thinking long term and for when his playing days are done. he won't have to renegotiate or worry about re-signing... he'll just play until he's done... just like brett farve

seriously though. then he can move into management or coaching...

Ted Nolan is a genius for leaving. Obviously the franchise is in some serious shiz right now. Snowang is gonna run us into the ground.

i'd like to be a fly on the wall to hear exactly what happened and what the 'philosophical' differences would be.

They made progress last year, made some good moves and now this?

D U M B

(of course, i like to give the benefit of doubt so it would be interesting to know why).

in another note, Ray Emery was interviewed on TSN. visit tsn.ca to see clips.

very interesting b/c it was asked if he has a drug problem to which he replied no, but the questions should have been , "have you ever had a drug problem".

heavy rumours that him, Wade Redden and Brian McGrattan were users and the GM has sent them all packing and got quality, locker room guys. Should be interesting to see how the Sens respond.

Did they make progress last year? They went from holding the last playoff spot 2 seasons ago to being out of the playoffs last season. Not really progress......

He'll land another coaching spot in the near future- he did, after all, have an above 500 record with a mess of a team. I think that the other teams can see what a disaster the Islanders are right now, and will hopefully not hold that against him.

I didn't know about all those drug rumors about those three Senators. What are we talking about here? Pot? Coke? If it's just pot, I don't think it's a big deal.

How bout for the Sabres....

I remember on the 4th of July I got a text message from buffalosabresfans.com saying that Bernier got traded.... I laughed and was also amazed.

He was a good player and we (buffalo Sabres' fans) just got him mid-season too!

FOUND YOU!!!!! On page 7. I guess it's summer time.....

Mats Sundin is still messing with our heads....

A Bryan McCabe deal is apparently happening sometime soon....

Leafland is still..... :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused:

Also....

I thought I'd see if TDD had an opinion on Scott "Flash" Gordon...... thoughts?

I'm already getting antsy for the fall. :D I'm going to be in Europe for the fall...I'd love to get my hands on some tix for the Rangers opener in Prague...

As long as he doesn't wind up a Ranger I don't care what Sundin does...IMO he's just really expensive baggage at this point. No good can come from so much drama. :p

I'll allow it. He has an excellent with young kids and the Isles seem to have a lot of them (whether or not they are any good is another question).

Then again, he doesn't have an NHL experience. It's a crap shoot.

I hope I have done a good job in your place OutThere. I know you were the torch bearer for this thread back then. :D

I'm rather antsy myself for the season to start. As much as I hate the Rags, I'd love to go the game in Prague. If you manage to go, please take a lot of pictures.

As for Sundin, he is the Brett Favre of the NHL.

Yeah I think I started the original '06-'07 NHL Season thread back in the day...I'm glad you've kept it going. Looks like there are more NHL fans on here than before, this being the offseason thread and drawing 800+ posts. That's what I like to see!

That's exactly what I was thinking this afternoon.

Alas, this was the Stanley Cup thread and we just kept it as the offseason thread too.

The new season thread will be up in Sept when training camps open :D

Glad I wasn't the only one thinking that.

I don't really think that it's a totally fair comparison. Mats never actually retired like Favre did- Mats simply stated that he wasn't sure if he wanted to play or not. He's not the first player to do that. And after all the years of dedication and hometown discounts he gave to the Leafs, he deserves the right to take his time to decide.

To be fair, I heard an interview of him from the weekend at the Peter Forsberg Charity Golf Tournament in Sweden, and he told the reporter that he never told anyone that he would make a decision by Aug 1st, as had been reported. He said that he would make the decision on whether he would play or not "some time in August". Aug 1 was a made-up deadline.

On the other hand, Favre retired, had a teary-eyed press conference, allowed the Packers the chance to move on, and then, months later, decided to unretire. I think that's very different.

However, I'm actually kind of glad that I'm not in Toronto- I don't have to listen to the 24 hour "What will Mats Sundin do?" discussion. That is annoying.

There are differences, but at this point they're both aging big name players who have questioned whether or not to keep playing, then where they were going to play next season, amid media and fan frenzy.

Favre has certainly been more of a drama queen about it though...with his retirement press conference and claiming he was just going to show up at training camp and all that crap.

True, but I think the big difference is that with Favre's situation, Favre created the drama. With Sundin, the hockey media is creating the drama.

Sundin's situation is just annoying at this point. Favre is a full-blown drama queen.

Le Magnifique retired twice :)

Also we break ground today on the new arena! Article if you are interested..

I am kind of disappointed that the new arena will only hold 1.1K more than the Igloo. You'd think with all the popularity Pittsburgh is receiving, and the growing number for the NHL in general We'd push to about 3k or so more. I'd love to have a 20K seat arena.
