I'd like to see them make it to the next round. I think they will, but it'll take 6 games to get there. Oh, and if I'm wrong..... then, um, it's because, um, all the travel. Yeah, that's it.... the Canucks' travel schedule is the worst in the league (WAY worse than Detroit's ), and they're just too tired from all the travel, and, um, Chicago, is really far away and stuff. ;)
See, I can be a sportswriter too......

Solid post, stcanard.

No, no, no!

If they lose the first two games, it's the rust. It is so unfair that they had the earliest schedule, its a plot against them that they had to wait too long.

If they lose the next two games, that's the travel.

Let's keep our excuses straight, okay?
:p

^^^^^^ Yeah, that sounds about right.

Don't worry, I think everything will be okay. Maggie the Monkey picked the Canucks, which is pretty much as good as any hockey-writer's opinion. And then she threw feces at Bob MacKenzie.

Boy, we were lucky.

The Canucks didn't play well at all - the rust was obvious, they were out of sync, tripping over each other.

But we still got the win!

so i just got tickets to the bruins game tomorrow night.. gonna be my first nhl playoff game. i cant ****ing wait.

What do you all think of the nominations for the Jack Adams (coach of the year) award?

Keep in mind, the nominations are based on the regular season, and have nothing to do with the playoffs.

Todd McLellan of the San Jose Sharks, Claude Julien of the Boston Bruins and Andy Murray of the St. Louis Blues are the finalists.

What about Paul Maurice? What about Joel Quenville?

I'm not so sure about Todd McLellan. If you're going to include him, then why not Mike Babcock? I think anyone could have coached the Sharks to the President's trophy.... even Barry Melrose!

Thoughts?.....

Now this is what a hockey player is supposed to look like in the playoffs!!

I can't believe that it's Kyle Wellwood!

Osgood had some amazing saves tonight. Although, I missed the fight in the first.:( It was a great game. Lidstrom had the game winner with less than a minute to go.

I remember Don Cherry's rants about how the Leafs were sending him up and down and kept a bunch of bums around. I miss my dish. :(

The Leafs never did that.... but they placed him on waivers last summer after the season, is that what you're referring to? Or maybe you're thinking of what the Canucks did with him at the beginning of this season?

I didn't get to watch the games today.... it's hard for me- they started at 4 pm and 4:30 pm local time! Ah well, they went as I predicted, so no surprises so far.

Bring on Caps vs. Pens.......

I'm almost positive during Wellwood's first year with the Leafs that he kept doing well but being sent down and Cherry would howl. I might have him mixed up with somebody else, but I'm almost positive it was Wellwood.

Here are his stats. He played one game with the Leafs in 03-04 (and was a -1), and then was injured quite a bit in 06-07 and 07-08.

Well, it might even have been justified.

Even in Vancouver at the start of the year he wasn't motivated, he showed up to camp overweight, didn't backcheck hard, didn't get into the corners. The team executive even went so far as to design a diet for him, and get personal trainers to watch. He was *that* close to being a Moose until injuries forced the team to call him back up.

I have no idea what they did to motivate him, but he's nowhere even close to the same player he was in November, much to the Canucks benefit!

That third line is funny -- Wellwood, Bernier, and usually Pyatt -- the "underacheiver" line. Yet they've been defensively good, much to everyone's surprise, and there's enough talent there that you never know when they are going to score a beautiful goal.

Of course not as strange as watching Mason Raymond lead the team in hits in the last game -- unfortunately he had a tendency to just bounce off the other player :)

3-2 Caps! Nice!

Good game (from what I was able to watch).

Caps lead the series 1-0.

Wow, my 2,000th post.... I'm glad it was hockey related

^I've noticed that Cap fans aren't very boisterous at times.

What a game though.

Varly had the save of the playoffs.

The game seemed fast moving and entertaining from what I saw, but it just feels so strange to be watching NHL hockey at 10:00 in the morning!

I know. It felt like it was the Olympics or the World Hockey Championships live from Europe or something.

Hah, you're right, that's why my careful "NHL Hockey" :D

Okay, tonight the Canucks didn't play well, and didn't deserve a win :( Even Luongo looked shaky, being beat on the five hole way too much.

That said, now for the refereeing complaint ... how is it they can run straight through our goalie and *we* get the penalty? How hard is it for a ref to understand ... if you don't see the play, don't call it.

At the very least, even if the call is already made, they should also have been sent off for goaltender interference to even it up.

What a game!!!

Ovie and Crosby with Hatties.

Caps Win 4-3 in thrilling game.

Ovechkin and Crosby did not disappoint. The Caps have got to figure out a way to get Crosby outta the front of the net. He's dangerous right there.

Don't know what the Pens can do to stop Ovechkin, though. He's frickin' amazing no matter he is on the ice.

It's gonna get ugly in Game 3. Can't wait. GO CAPS!!!

Regardless of their hat tricks, Ovechkin clearly won this battle simply due to the quality of the goals he did score. That last wristshot with Gonchar in front of him was blistering. Did you see how far Fleury was standing in front of his net? He was well outside the crease, and even with the angle cut down to give Ovie an inch on each side to hit, Ovechkin hit it. Hard.

The Caps are not doing a good job of taking him out of the play from the side of the net. Nobody is there on top of him constantly harassing him. His third goal he had 4 fracking whacks at it!!!

anyone else here that Nasland is retiring.

I saw that. Did the Rags give him a one year or a multi year contract?

This is why Ovechkin = God. He is more of a complete player than Crosby.
