don't know if I am spoiled my more recent games but portal looked like garbage on my iMac.

Turned all the way up it looks okay, as in max details with max AA, especially on an iMac.

These photos have 0 AA, and 2x AF, so they might look worse than yours would.

Guys, if you're running Portal and don't like the blurry-ish look, turn off the color correction in the advanced video settings. It'll make it look better.

Thanks, that did make it look better for me. Not sure how colors affect the sharpness of the image though.

Idk if it's me or what, but Steam did some update a couple hours back and now Portal runs muchhhhh better

It'd be entertaining to see if the games will even launch on Intel graphics and if so, how silly it is :)

My 7 year old Pc with a ATI 9800 Pro which is gathering dust somewhere in the garage maxes out Counterstrike Source and most valve games.

I'm pretty sure the Intel HD can handle this game perfectly :D

But on an external monitor, I suppose the 330M would be ideal. :p

You'd be suprised!

I remember my first discrete graphics card; the 9200 SE!

lol@ 64-bit bus. It was awsome for me at the time (grade 6)

Ok, so I compared the steam version with a community cider-wrapper version. The steam version did not perform much faster when they're on the same settings, but graphics glitches are non-existent. In comparison, the cider version had a lot of visual tearing and other glitches which are annoying.

Two thumbs up for Valve!

Anyone else having issues where steam does not close properly? I have a new 15" mbp i5 and when I quit steam it appears to close, but if I goto Force Quit it is listed as not responding and I cannot restart steam until I force it to quit.

Well I have the game fully maxed and it just does not look as polished or advanced as I remember...testing out the windows version again later today.

It won't let me even get on to Steam.

I do the update it wants and when it gets to about 28,000kb it will go back to the start, get to 28,000kb again and say "Steam must be online to update, please check your Network Connection."

It has been doing it since last night, I have just turned off my firewall so hopefully that will sort it.

I have had other things downloading in the bg that don't stop so it can't be my broadband. Re downloaded steam a few times and have tried it via Ethernet cable. Still get the same problem.

Look, here it is. Driving me mental!

It's just how Apple has it's drivers set up; not very well. (at least for gaming, maybe they are for other things)

I assume that Valve will work on the engine and fine tuning it as much as possible, and Apple or Nvidia will work on optimizing drivers in the coming weeks and months, but who knows.

Open GL is supposed to beat DX, and it does on the Windows side, wish they could match the performance.

I can wait then:) but doesn't free portal expire soon? Im guessing we don't get to keep it...

Yes it does, the 24th.
I own the orange box though.

I am just waiting for them to get all the orange box series titles out.
Next Wednesday I'm hoping for either the HL series, or some of them.. or the L4D series.

TF2 isn't on my list.
