Much! Unless we're planning on taking the Japanese team. It was one of those games where we just weren't going to score, no one really stood out. Is it too late to look for another 23? :p

I think Japan are a better side than a lot of people give them credit for, but England should have made easier work of it than that...

"easier work" ? honestly if you win by your opposite side scoring _2_ own goals it's nothing short of luck

combined with missing a penalty :)rolleyes:) i suppose england is in their usual world cup form

... what is it with missing penalties and england ... after all with penalties there is only so much bad luck... in fact of the last ca. 30 years since introduction chez republic has scored 100% of all their penalties at big tournaments, the germans 92,5%
and the english ? 67% .. only beating the worst team.. the netherlands with 66%

It's not all bad luck as you say so I can only assume England's history gets to the players. I'm never optimistic about shootouts given our record!

They'll be fine just as long as they're not drawn in the same group as England...

I'm predicting England are going to face France in the quarterfinals and Brazil in the semis, if they get that far. So this could be a very good tournament for England. Getting knocked out by Brazil is always a great face-saver. ;)

Which does remind me: what do the Europeans think of the new Adidas Jabulani soccer ball they'll use at World Cup 2010? I had a chance to kick one a few days ago and gawd, that ball is going to have a lot of "hook and slice" if you don't kick it right. I think it's the way the ball was made and the materials used that people are complaining about.

There have been a fair few complaints about the ball already from players. The 'keepers normally voice concerns – Buffon, Casillas, and Cesar are a few to have been critical so far – but some outfield players are also a bit worried too it seems. The fact that the air is thinner at some of the venues apparently adds to the unpredictability.

Personally, I've not tried kicking one of the balls but rest assured that if I did it would be sliced horrifically anyway due to my compete inability to kick a football properly. :p Anyway, we all know it's only a proper football if it's a Telstar or a Tango...

If England has to face France, it's going to get ugly fast. Would Glen Johnson and Lennon/Walcott have any prayer of slowing down Evra/Malouda/Ribery on that side of the pitch?

Thin air and Tango - 1978; Johnny Rep and Arie Haan enjoyed it.

Players complaining - this is what happens when they don't grow up playing at the beach with a 50 pence ball!

Cheers,
OW

Following the live text on BBC Sport, there's some conflicting rumours about who's in and who's not. Latest rumour is no Ledley King and a spot for Dawson...

Maybe I should just ignore it and do some work whilst waiting for the official announcement!

Thats what Im trying to do. I have enough rumours in my life with this website, let alone rumours on football players. Does anyone know when we can expect an official statement?

I believe the official announcement has been put back to 3pm.

I don't know the reason for the delay, but given that Capello is calling each player prior to the announcement I reckon it might be because Ashley Cole has 'misplaced' his mobile again...

EDIT: Do we get to find out the squad numbers today as well? Not that I'm a saddo when it comes to this sort of thing or owt.
