Nice photos AdamA9, thanks for posting!

Capello certainly looks the part of Field Marshal, with his chiseled visage and stiff-as-a-post posture.

The training pitch is in a pretty picturesque spot as well. USA's training camp is not open to the public, so it's interesting to see that the England camp was, though the media outnumbered the fans it seems.

Anyone limping?

Only Ledley King, but don't worry, that's normal for him. ;)

Good lord, that is a dreadful-looking kit that Seaman is wearing!

Pepe Reina plays in green and he has a pretty good record of saving penalties - though perhaps he should change his away kit to red.

Nice pics AdamA9, scenery is stunning too looks like there is barely enough flat land for a pitch.

Would a green goalie not make sense? Or go the whole hog and put him in khaki to camouflage him?

Out of interest, what kind of camera did you use? Depth of field very good so doesn't look like a point and shoot but image size suggest it's not a SLR. Some kind of bridge? MobileMe stripped out the EXIF so I couldn't get the data from the images (I'm currently looking for a new camera.)

I was thinking similarly. I can never get my DSLR into stadia, but point-and-shoot photos never turn out for sporting events. But a training session would be perfect for photos, I could finally use that 55-250mm IS telephoto I convinced myself to buy last year...:D

Thanks for the comments guys. I just notices the pictures look dreadful on MobileMe, unless they look okay back there? They're all pixilated for me and look dreadful looking back.

We can indeed, nice one!

I particularly like the way that Capello is stood motionless in the background of a lot of them, looking on sagely at his young charges.

Anyone limping?

Only King when he left early and Upson when he got kicked in the head by Defoe

Yeah yesterday was media day. Today should be pretty empty for us to get a better view :)

AdamA9,

Thanks. Like the one of Capello smiling by the coach, and the image of the trainer holding the ball - "Okay, anyone know what this is?". Upson trying to hide from you, or when he got kicked?

Penalties; red is the colour - http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/international/article7099198.ece

Cheers,

That's Franco Baldini, the second in command to Capello.

I was only using a Nikon D40x with a Sigma 70-300mm lens. At full focal length it creates some good DOV pictures. Hopefully these look okay back home, because looking back on MobileMe they don't look too good.

Did I mention I got to shake Capello's hand as he was leaving?

Ah nice. You didn't go for extreme close ups which is why I thought it was a bridge. Nice that they let you into a training event with one, stadium events are pretty impossible these days but they've also started to crack down on training sessions. The real paps must be complaining about print quality pics being released onto the web.

Why are England in Austria? Altitude training? It doesn't look particularly hot.

very likely the altitude

the heat isn't going to be much of a problem i nsouth africa since it's the southern hemisphere and thus winter season during the cup ;)
temperature are going to be around 20during the day and can drop down to 0-5 during the nights, also rain is to be expected in some playing locations

which pretty much is the current weather in austria

Maradona is in the news again, this time for accidentally running over a photog's leg and then swearing at him before the press conference where he announced his 23-man squad. Interesting look he has going with the beard.

I love this guy, he's just so crazy...but if I was Argentinian I'd be terrified.

What's the over/under on how many min before he gets sent to the stands by a ref?

It's almost sure to happen at some point I would think....

I can't see them failing to get out of the group stage, but the first knockout match Argentina play could be very interesting. If they failt to win their group they will probably play France in the Battle of the Wacky Managers. But if they draw Mexico I think it will be easier for them - not because Mexico are not good, but I think Argentina would be more able to cope with Mexico's style of play. That would set up either (probably) England or Germany in the quarters...surely they wouldn't be able to get beyond that?

Mexico and Argentina are always great games...Maxi Rodriguez scored the goal of the WC in 2006 to eliminate Mexico...

Germany would trounce Argentina again...they've owned them since that '86 final...

It would be funny to watch Leo Messi make mincemeat of Terry and Ferdinand for 90 minutes or so, but I don't think the Argentina squad has the legs or the manager to get past either the Germans or the English.

Rumor is that Bob Bradley is considering starting Puebla forward Hercules Gomez as Jozy Altidore's strike partner for USA's friendly matches against the Czechs and Turks. I think it's a good move, since Gomez is 28, experienced, is in-form and playing in a stronger league than the MLS forwards like Edson Buddle.

That's good news if Lando and Dempsey are on the midfield...I believe when u have a speedy not very skilled forward like Jozy you need a solid '9' forward like Gomez to act as a "post'...hold the ball and try to feed Jozy or others...similar to the role Guille Franco plays on Mexico's team...

I'm going to England-Mexico at Wembley today. Should be a good match, with players vying for places in the final 23.

I'm about to watch Canada v Argentina in an international friendly. I have NO idea how the CSA managed to set this up, but it's a good opportunity for Canada to play against a top 10 team.

Oddly enough, Canada has put out an average squad, and Argentina has put out their strongest line up (minus Messi).

Just filled out my ESPN world cup bracket (Do we have a group yet? If not I'd be honored to start one).

I have to say that as a Portuguese fan, they look to have a very rough go no matter how the chips fall.

Their path to the final will likely consist of Spain, then Italy, then either Germany or Argentina, if they finish second in their group. Switzerland or Chile, then Netherlands, then England or France if they finish first.

Of course they beat Netherlands and England in the last cup, and France won't likely be nearly as strong as they were then.

Either way, they've got a rough road this cup, even getting out of the group stage will prove difficult.

Should be an epic World Cup! Providing both Portugal and Brasil advance from the group stages, we're virtually guaranteed matches between the top 4 teams in the current world ranking! I can hardly wait. I spent time living in Lisbon after highschool, my younger brother has lived in Brasil, we're going to have a blast with this one. With a healthy dose of luck we could even see a Portugal v Brasil final, there would be anarchy in our family if that happened.
