I'm sure that the good folk of South Africa are equally glad that you're not being subjected to vuvuzela-based noise or exposed to their germs. A narrow escape for all involved.

Indeed.:D South Africa isn't exactly on my list of lucrative places to visit anyhow.

And since I'm not a soccer fan, I will now politely bow out and not comment anymore in your thread.
:)

Sounds like it's set to end with a whimper - Mexico parking the bus to avoid further damage, content to let the game end on the current scoreline and go through to the next round.

As for France - what can you say? A disaster for the French fans - Karmic revenge for the "Hand of Gaul".

LB not only has that game ended with a whimper for Mexico...but their whole tournament...they had the chance to win the group and avoid Argentina in the next round...they'll be lucky if Argentina scores 3-4 and calls it a day...

Re: Domenech...very classy, it seems almost every single person involved with team France is a headcase. I'd hate to be Laurent Blanc right now, he's got a lot of work ahead of him to build a useful team for Euro qualification.

Mexico is definitely underperforming...then again, I feel like they always underperform at the WC. I think their biggest problem is the lack of a dangerous striker. Blanco is a million years old. Perhaps Vela is a long-term answer?

I'm pumped about our match tomorrow morning. Boozing at 7am doesn't make me an alcoholic if it's while watching a sporting event, right? :)

I'd like to add in passing my congratulations to South Africa for giving a solid effort in their home World Cup. It would have been nice to see them in the knockout rounds. Even though they are out they can be proud of having given a very credible performance given their resources.

Was that Mick McCarthy criticising Greece's tactics for not playing an expansive game and going all out for the win against Argentina? The same Mick McCarthy who sent out his reserves against Manchester United last season in the Premier League? Standards, eh Mick, better make yours a double?

Oh, and au revoir to the French. Don't let the door hit your derrière on the way out.

He quickly realised what he had said and tried to cover it by taking the 'there are many valid ways to play the game' line.

Clearing out all the aging egomaniacs (Henry, Gallas, Anelka, &c.) from the national setup will solve most of his problems. Bring back Benzema and Nasri. Be a better communicator.

Then again, unless there is wholesale change in the dysfunctional leadership of the FFF, things really won't get better.

They always look more dangerous with Chicharito on the pitch. Why Blanco and Franco start instead of him is a total mystery to me.

Maybe everyone complaining about how lively the ball is just haven't practiced enough?

Certainly had some curve on it which hasn't been seen before. But why do they always introduce new types of balls just before each WC? Why don't they introduce them straight after the WC so they play with them for 4 years so we can see more skill with the ball... it's all marketing I suppose..

That Nigerian miss from 3 foot in front of an open goal right at the end that would have put them through can't be blamed on anything but brain freeze though. I bet he'll be losing sleep every night reliving that moment in his head for the next 50 years.

Edit. Germany's been playing with them for the past year from what I can gather which explains why they seem to have better control of it than other teams appear to do.

Messi yet to provide a key contribution.;)

His goal(s) will come, if I'm not mistaken he's hit the goal post twice in the past three games and has had some other good shots, it'll come.

Plus even if he isn't scoring he's had a hand (not a pun) in a lot of Argentina's goals already. He's playing well.

To be fair to Mick*, we didn't need to win that match to stay in the Premier League but Greece needed to win to have any real chance of staying in the tournament. :p

*He's the most successful manager we've had at Wolves over the last 25 years so I'm prepared to cut him a little slack. :D
