Gah, I can't imagine how frustrating this must be for US fans. A dozen chances. Will Algeria snatch it at the death...?

Edit - this Belgian ref gets top marks from me, this has been a good open and flowing game. He should be given the Final I reckon.

Edit - YOO ESS AAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!

And relief....

Well, it's quite clear the USA scores best when they're on a quick counter attack (like against Brazil and Spain in the Confeds Cup). Parked in the Algerian third and they couldn't score for money. :)

One mistake by the ref right at the end for carding the Algerian captain for pulling his players off the ref.

Didn't watch all of the England game but the USA Vs Algeria game was edge of the seat stuff!

I hated about 91 mins of the USA game up until Donovan's goal. The USA have had some crap decisions called against them so they well deserve the win!

USA, England qualify = Happy Chaz.

I'm going to wear my USA shirt to work today in celebration, dress code be damned.

My hands are shaking from the excitement. Condolences to Slovenia, they were the surprise of the group and probably just about deserved to progress. As for the bad calls, I do think USA was on the wrong side of a few big calls, but we just need to be more dangerous in attack, and put away our chances. We could have won this match 2-0 or 3-0 if we had done so. The next round will not be so forgiving.

The wife is wearing my England shirt at her work today.... I may have to get a USA shirt to piss the people off at work.

I'm more than glad my country went through but being an England fan is frustrating (as you can tell by their earlier performance). Deciding to root for the USA this WC has almost given me a heart attack tho. :D

To say we deserved that, would be a serious understatement. FIFA should be ashamed of their officiating to this point. Let's hope it gets addressed and improves for the 16.

GO USA!!!

Qualification is a great achievement for a team from a country whose population is a fraction of the USA's; well done England.

Edit - had the USA game on picture in picture and missed some of the chances I've just seen on the BBC highlights; it looks like Donovan went against team orders by scoring!

I was hopping to catch the US vs Algeria game on CBC but instead I had to settle for watching the other match (England vs Solvenia). Looks like I'll have to watch it On-Demand or something.
