Suazo, Sánchez, Fernández, Isla all having (or had) a pretty poor game today.
That makes it even harder to break the Swiss lock.

Btw, how sad it must be to be Swiss; their attempt to play soccer is just pathetic. They let their rivals play, and try to strike lucky with a counterattack.
If every team played like that, no one would follow this great sport.

well, it depends. i am sure fans in new zealand are more happy than fans in north korea right now.

I think this guy in the Chile/Swiss match has been on camera in close-up more than any of the actual players. The best referee is one you don't notice, as they say.

honestly he starts to remind me of some of the referees we have here in austria: where you start to wonder how their ego fits on the plane to south africa

Calm play by Paredes for the Chile goal, but not so calm as I type.

He is usually very reliable, not so much on that shot.

EDIT - and again, he misses, inches wide.
And on the first serious Swiss attack, they had it.

Valdivia... that's why Fernández is on the starting lineup and he is not. He has a way of getting carded for pulling silly stunts.

They did, didn't they? At the 67th minute they surpassed Italy.

Ah, my bad. I thought he was just shy of 90 minutes from beating it. That's what I heard on the news anyways.

About the game, I'm concerned about Chile's lack of goals. Hopefully Suazo will find the net soon despite being almost two months out, because it seems there's no one else willing to step up. Maybe Paredes... we'll see. With Fernández suspended for the match against Spain, Paredes will have the chance to come off the bench sooner.
Hopefully Valdivia will manage to steer away from the yellow card during that match, or it will seriously undermine our possibilities in the second round.

Nonsense officiating in the Switzerland-Chile game. That guy was in over his head.

Heartbreak in the 89th minute...beautiful setup and a wide open goal. Just want to see the Swiss make it out of group play. :)

Biggest news of the tournament so far. Torres has had a haircut.

Spain are looking up for it already, just hit the bar.

Talking about news... I heard on Dutch TV that a couple of the French players do not want to play their 3rd game..??

Like I said before... FIFA should have sent the whole French squad home.
But, I do like a good laugh... so let them stay.

Honduras is severely outclassed...would Torres have scored that header if he hadn't cut his hair? :)

My predictions tomorrow...
Mexico 1, Uruguay 0
South Africa 3, France 0 (i looked it up that's the default score if a team forfeits) :D
Argentina 2, Greece 0
Korea 2, Nigeria 1

There's no way that Mexico - Uruguay ends in anything but a draw :)

I'd rather see the French team play without a coach.

Let's hope Mexico's fear to meet Argentina in the next round is big enough to try to win. But if it's 1:1 after 80 min, the rest of the match is going to be boring and your prediction will be right.

Spain scores only 2 goals with that many excellent opportunities? That's pretty sad. They should've destroyed Honduras.

Well, if Spain put as much effort into their shooting as they did into their rolling-around-on-the-floor-clutching-your-ankle they'd have thrashed Honduras tonight.

As for John Terry's ill-fated attempts at being the new Gary Neville, couldn't have happened to a more deserving twunt. Drop him Don Fabio! :D

Capello must drop Terry. Otherwise all his talk of discipline will look like hot air.

Good thing Terry is a center back, something England is in very short supply of at the moment. Unless Carrick gets another run out in that position like he had to do at United last season.

Yep, Spain should have really taken Honduras to the woodshed. Honduras did defend bravely in a couple of key sequences, but Spain really should have finished better. Villa's missed penalty was inexcusible. Navas' crossing was atrocious. Torres couldn't finish to save his life (maybe like Sansom he derived his scoring powers from his delicate bleached locks).
