I thought the England side did quite well considering they were missing this much needed experience we keep hearing about from various pundits. It would have been nice to get the draw, but the Dutch attack, and especially Robben, caused us problems all night, and rightly so, it's a great attacking lineup.

So, on to more important news. Despite doing over our local rivals, in one of the more important derby games of recent times, it seems MM has parted company with his "top-drawer manager". We've already been linked with Dave Jones although I heard he died yesterday...

tis true, apparently he will be named friday...

poor meggo. he was just going on about how he loved sheffield... ffs.

I'm in 2 minds really. I don't like the guy, and when we loose, it's always someone's fault but his.

But! I don't think he's done a particularly bad job, I guess MM just expected better.

I'm not sure Dave Jones is the solution. All he proved is that he couldn't get Cardiff promoted despite having some big name players

To be fair since they changed the layout, unless it's the No.1 headline I struggle to find anything on the BBC's Football page anymore. I could throw things at the screen and still make it look more organised!

Does anyone have stats on dw starts / goals vs berbatov? A statement was made earlier that he offers everything berbatov does but I don't see it. He's started and played enough to have more goals and frankly I think berbatov would have done better.

Scotland's draw with Slovenia was so boring I struggled to find the match report on the BBC. The most interesting thing is our next match is friendly against the USA.

In Florida, in May. Should be steamy hot with the usual afternoon rain shower. We play Brazil four days later, so I hope your lot don't tire us out. ;)

We don't play our first World Cup Qualifiers until June, so we need a few good friendlies. I am optimistic about our chances in this World Cup cycle.

Agreed. I hate the new format.

In Jacksonville for some reason, well down the list of usual Florida haunts. Pity as I'm in Florida next month.:)

Before anybody complains about 'well you don't pay for it', my company runs servers through New Jersey so when I browse the BBC at work it's full of adverts, gets my goat. It would surprise the average license payer.

Meanwhile, we're having a record snow year in Alaska and it's 10F today. I own just one pair of shorts right now, and I don't think I've worn them in over a year. ;)

I don't notice the ads on the BBC website, as part of my general policy of ignoring every banner ad on the internet -except the ones that hover in the middle of my screen and block the 'post' button here on MR when I edit posts, that I can't get rid of.

And as no surprise, we've appointed Dave Jones as our manager. Personally, I think I'd have preferred Lee Clark. All Dave Jones has proved is he couldn't get Cardiff promoted!

Megson For England!

Daylight robbery that. Lucky win.

Same story though; Liverpool play well but can't score + Arsenal overrun and can't defend = RVP + Szeczesny + Luck the difference.

Lucky, but probably deserved (if only just). Liverpool can only hope to finish fifth now, and maybe snatch the FA Cup. I think Arsenal have fourth all but wrapped up, largely by virtue of Chelsea's descent into oblivion.

If we had a decent front line we'd be a serious contender for fourth, but we just can't score goals. Liverpool have a terrible record at Anfield of late.

To be fair, today Liverpool were unlucky, they hit the post twice and forced several good saves. Today was not a repeat of their usual problem of failing to create chances.

The other big thing, Carragher is done. If Agger was playing today Arsenal wouldn't have scored.

Downing played well again, perhaps he's found his form. Henderson was better. Adam, as usual, runs around a lot but doesn't achieve much. Kuyt, as usual, was a nuisance for the opposition. Kelly was impressive going forward from right back.

Someone on Twitter suggested that Liverpool play better when Gerrard is not in the team because it forces other players to step up rather than to defer to Gerrard when they have the ball. (Watch a Liverpool game with Gerrard playing, every time they get possession they look for Gerrard.)

In other news, I think my home town Wigan are toast.

UP THE OWLS!

A fair point, and I think Downing's good form has played a role there - he's finally looking more like the player we thought we bought. I feel that, while the progress has been glacially slow, our offense is improving. Whether it will improve enough in the end is another matter.

I agree with you about Agger as well, he's having a great season, and Carragher, for all his experience, is just too old.

Wigan do have a very big hole to dig themselves out of. I feel that only another team choking will save them, even if they start getting results. Do you think Martinez will be sacked if they go down?
