Columbus play the Fire next, I am hoping to get one over on our longtime rivals. An Oduro goal would certainly stir the pot.

No need to hope, Columbus should be able to put at least 3 past the Fire, and I'll laugh if Oduro scores, then show my displeasure with ownership.

It seems like Duka is still struggling there. I'm interested to see if he ever settles in, but the fans are already on his back. Could get ugly.

Important night in the Chump then, as Cardiff can secure promotion with just a draw and at the other end, Bristol City will be relegated if they lose, or one of either Peterborough and Blackburn win.

Ugh. Giroud should've scored. Ox should've shot. Pah!

Can only hope City and Liverpool do us a favour now.

Congratulations to Cardiff City who have been promoted to the worst, most overpaid, pompous, money-dominated, ahem, sorry, best league in the world, the Premier League. (Hopefully they'll do a better job than us this season ;) )

And commiserations also to Bristol City, my adopted second team, as they have been relegated to the murky depths of League One.

So Cardiff City finally get thier Gap year in the Premire league :D
Pity they had to change their shirt colour and run up a 80m debt in the process.

Did one of you friends abroad hear that Bayern won over Wolfsburg 6:1 in the DFB-Pokal?

In an interview with Bayern's Matthias Sammer the moderator said it has leaked that the heads of Dortmund and Bayern (initiated by Dortmund) want to discuss ideas how to change the current situation in the Bundesliga. Meaning that things seem too predictable for everyone with Bayern and Dortmund being the two top teams (making cups and Bundesliga-matches uninteresting looking at the end results).
Matthias Sammer of course said: "they can discuss that, when I have left Bayern. I want to win."

I wonder, though, what they have in mind? I mean what can one do? Changing coach education? Declaring a limit for money that is payed to players, so everyone can afford top players? How would that work anyway? They did not make suggestions, but I wonder, what they have in mind.
Maybe the UEFA or FIFA will pay them to loose ;) just kidding.

Side Note: Wolfsburg's women won the first half final match over Arsenal's Ladies (though the latter having more chances) in the CL 2:0. Of course, one will have to wait for the second match, but I tend to Wolfsburg proceeding to a final against Olympique Lyonnais (3:0 Juvisy).

Wolfsburg seems to have gotten some economical interest in the women's section: paying more for very good players from for long time better teams than them (several national-team members and two retired national-team players there), showing respect in giving them the big men's stadium for the CL-matches (from 1/4-final on), though only having 2000 visitors, and telling the men's players to sit in the lounge and watch "their" women-team play. Players are also offered job education nearby and training that is integrated in the schedule, I heard. So they can get a qualification for a job for later, when they retire (or when still playing and not having enough money, still).
I did miss the matches, so my tip on a Wolfsburg vs Lyon final is more a guess on very few matches I have seen. I also missed the friendly match USA - Germany on April, 5th. USA was 3:1 ahead until GER took the last 5 minutes to equal to 3:3.

American fans of the beautiful game will be interested to learn that NBC plan to broadcast every single Premier League game this season. 380 games will be broadcast live.= on NBC networks, and the final day of the season will see every game broadcast simultaneously.

Something like 20 games will get the full monty treatment on network TV. Studio personalities include Gary Lineker, Lee Dixon, Robbie Earl and Graeme Le Saux among others. The rest of the games will be available digitally (not sure if this means internet, Apple TV or just digital cable/satellite)).

They are also planning 30 hours of studio "analysis" weekly and a two-hour Match of the Day program on Saturdays.

Very ambitious.

None the less, if we beat already relegated Bristol City on Friday we can be promoted without kicking a ball on Saturday if Watford register anything less than a win.

What could possibly go wrong? Heh.

Fingers crossed Jaffa. I can't wait to see the Tigers back in the Best League in the World.™ :)

It is a perfect example of what the the game has become. It is global and market driven. It is a vehicle for financial speculation. Cardiff have been taken to the Premier League, but they are owned by a remote foreign consortium. There is a huge separation between the local origins of the club and the fans on the one hand, and the power and the money behind the club on the other.

The NBC deal looks promising. As for Duka I don't think Chicago fans gave him a chance off the bat once it was announced fan favorite Oduro was part of the trade. What I've seen of Duka I'm not impressed and it looks like the Crew got the sweet side of the deal.

Duka looked very promising as a U-20 player and all signs pointed to a lot of potential, but you always take a risk that players like that won't develop.

Oduro, on the other hand, is proven talent - if a journeyman rather than a star. Most Crew fans think that his hot streak won't last and that a slump is inevitable and that Jairo Arrieta, currently starting on the bench because Warzycha favors a single striker formation, will win back his starting spot.

I've always considered Oduro more of an impact sub than a starter, but at the moment he's producing goals. He has an annoying habit of doing nothing for 80 minutes and then popping up to score an excellent goal though.

The Oduro deal also included Robbie Rogers and had he not gone into (semi?) retirement the deal would have looked much better for Chicago I think.

'Personalities' isn't exactly the word that springs to mind with that lot...

We've been in the best league in the world for the past three seasons. ;)

The Duka deal was payback for McBride snubbing Columbus upon his return to the states. Well played Columbus well played.

All kidding aside the deal would of looked better if Rogers were to play for Chicago but alas it wasn't in the cards. I agree about your assessment on Oduro, he can be frustrating but at least you know what you're getting with him. I hated seeing the Fire offense lose the speed up front and he worked great with Nyarko who now seems lost with their current forwards.

McBride is a legend for Columbus, but I had to admit I loved watching Chad Marshall out-leap him to score in that playoff game in 2008. I was disappointed he didn't come back to Columbus, but I never held it against him. It would have been great to see him win a championship with the Crew though.

Another thing about Oduro - I expected a speedy player but I was surprised at the good technique he shows with some of his goals. Some very classy finishes there. On the other hand, he duffs plenty of chances as well.

not that a money is the problem at wolfsburg ;) ... IMHo their problem currently is simply the amount of players bought during Magath's reign who don't fit together very well

in many parts their squad has good players: their attack with Olic, Diego, Hasebe, Helmes, and even Bas Dost is very variable on paper and above Bundesliga average, so is Benaglio as their keeper, Rodriguez on the left has finally arrived in the squad as well, Naldo is excellent

their centre (defensive) midfield is very weak though
why they chose to keep Madlung isntead of Pogatetz is a mystery to my... yes he is dangerous up front, but he has horrible positioning, the acceleration of an oil tanker and is prone to blunders

after all their first half wasn't too bad with 3-4 chances to score ... the second was a disaster of HSV proportions sadly

on today's game: on recent form Freiburg is the obvious choice but Stuttgart is always up for typical cup games

Gomez and of course Shaquiri were looking good yesterday. Gomez making the obligatory 3,4, 5:0 (joking) but kinda proofs nothing for regular starting XI since he's brilliantly lethal at counter attacks but lacks what a modern striker is all about: moving wall, dribbling, tackling, forchecking and lots of scary tatoos.

perhaps he should try crashing an expensive sports-car to gather attention from Premier league clubs

Wonder where he could play best, though. Probably Pool (would love him doing such a bold and risky move - and succeed)? Chelsea could work, too. Regarding the World Cup, he should leave Munich and play constantly, huge question mark what Guardiola is going to do, but one thing's for sure: he won't play with two strikers up front.

Useless Fulham...should take a page out of West Ham's book. Hopefully Liverpool can do what they (Fulham) failed to.

Guardiola sure is going to run into problems his first year with the bar being set high by Heynckes. Bundesliga won in a multiple-record breaking season, CL semi final, DFB cup final... If they manage to win the triple i suspect we aren't going to see many squad changes ... perhaps an additional fullback player, a left winger backup for Ribery ? hard to point out an obvious "weak spot"

edit: yeah i gotta agree Liverpool would be a good match for Gomez in terms of his playing style/talents

Latest from the Match Officials Exchange:

Offside Goal is trading at one Get Out Of Red Card Free.

It's impressive how Ferg manages to motivate his players. They've won the title so long ago its ancient history. Under most managers they'd be doing a Cardiff - stumbling across the finishing line.

Of course, having said that, they did choke horribly last season.

Touching news - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-22196415

Amazing what strong willpower can achieve.

It's truly heartening to see people like Anne Williams rewarded for their tireless efforts in the face of bureaucratic inertia, misinformation and outright lies by public servants entrusted with crucial duties. Football and society as a whole benefit from this.
