Uli Hoeneß reported himself for tax fraud (By doing so, he won't be sentenced if found out to be true).

Yep, you heard right, that self-righteous guy who's always first to speak in front of cameras about what good he'd done for society or to blame others for not doing so. That feels good. Hope he can keep his big mouth shut now more easily.

While it certainly tarnishes his reputation as a business man, it will have no big effect on FC Bayern. In fact he said he would run for another turn as president.

the question will be how many other football related tax evaders will surface the next months .. i suspect this is only the beginning
Hoeneß might just be the first in line ... and it's always better to come forward yourself towards the "Finanzamt"

a company reporting oneself because too few fees, taxes, tariffs have been paid in the past is rather common, i've heard from at least half a dozen companies where they had to do it simply because of computer errors/programming mistakes
and hoping that it goes unnoticed is rather unrealistic (BTW: on tariffs: if you paid too much you have 1 month to file a complaint, if they find out you paid to little they can check your last 7 years ;) )

Bayer Leverkusen though is in rather big pile of ... as well

Ugh, Hoeneß brought several hundreds of millions into Switzerland? Story? Can't believe it.

The repercussions of missing out on the title.

Since the loss to Ajax last weekend it has just got a lot worse in Einhoven.
The clubs board of of directors wants both Tiny Sanders (CEO) and Marcel Brands to step down. Dick Advocaat has always made it clear that he would leave the club if they failed to win a title.
The major problem is if Tiny Sanders leaves there will be a very major hole in the finances of the club, he is the man with the connections to the big sponsors.

Plus there is also a very real chance that the EU will make PSV hand back most of the €41 million that the Einhoven city council paid to PSV in a land deal.

Into this mess steps Art Langelar (trainer PEC Zwolle) on the 1st July. He will be taking over the youth team, on a four year contract.

PSV are now five years without a title, and the future does not look any better. Many of the big name players are either stopping with football, or comming to end of their contracts. There are also rumors that more than one player wants to leave.

City have really been pathetic this season. Such a boring conclusion in the end. Utd will now haphazardly stumble onto a 20th title tomorrow with arguably their weakest team ever. All thanks to the shocking output from the rest of the league who have been outright woeful all round.

*sigh*...how depressing.

Pointless season to have followed really, mind numbingly dull through and through.

Football from the Netherlands

Friday
Ajax 1 vs Heerenveen 1
Ajax are still very shaky at home, Heerenveen are the team in form.

Saturday

AZ 1 vs PSV 3
PSV had to win this match and did in some style. Mark van Bommel scored from a free kick, after that AZ just fell apart.
Just a note to (Lord Blackadder) Jozy was substituted in the 54 minute, he really didn't look on form this day.

Sunday
NEC 1 vs PEC Zwolle 3
This was a one sided game PEC dominated the play, and as the result shows took their chances well.

VVV Venlo 2 vs Twente 2
Twente could not keep the winning run going, but stay in fifth table.

Feyenoord 2 vs Vitesse 0
Feyenoord win this topper, Vitesse were without both Wilfried Bony and Marco van Ginkel, which was a handicap to much.

With Ajax losing two points it's made the made the competition at least last a bit longer.

PSV and Feyenoord are second on points but PSV have the better goal difference. Vitesse is fourth.

6 points still seperates first till fourth.

A ban surely has to follow. Wasn't it half-a-dozen or so he had to miss when he got his teeth out when playing for Ajax?

He was called Jaws after that, Otman Bakkal (PSV) was the player he bite, in the shoulder.

A 7 match ban was the punishment.

Glad to hear that you won some money, on PEC, JC :D

That game pretty much sums up Suarez in a nutshell. What is there to say? He's a brilliant player who is also guaranteed to be a big idiot a couple times every season. It's inexcusable.

Chicago 1-0 Columbus

I'm mad enough to bite someone. Go away football, come back another weekend when you have good news for me.

wait... what does that mean, "12 men"?

I'd interpret it as 'Spurs fan support was so utterly atrocious that City supporters appeared as 12th man.' That or the ref.

Btw, quite strange nobody has mentioned it before, but Hertha BSC made it back into the first Bundesliga! Well done. Hope they manage to hustle around up there a little longer than last time.

When teams talk about the 'twelfth man', they're referring to their supporters – the idea that a noisy and passionate crowd gives an advantage by encouraging one team whilst intimidating the other.

However, when you say that a team is 'playing against twelve men' it means that the referee is either biased or inept, so in effect you're having to play against the opposition and the official.

yeah i understand both references but i thought, maybe, ManSh*tty might have had an extra player on the pitch at one point.

i was back and forth between F1 and the match but from what i saw Spurs had the run of the match. especially early on. it was a bit quiet tho. the Lane didn't get going until Doose tied it up.

COYS!

Manchester City tend to use the first 10 minutes to test whether they can get away with grabbing and other niggling fouls - disrupt the flow/attack of the opponent. The ref in the Spurs' game, Lee Mason, allowed the tactic for most of the match - man number 12. Of course other teams try it on, see Manchester United in some games v Arsenal, it's just the lot in blue seem rather fond of tugging etc. No bias :D.

Cheers,
OW

Well congratulations to Celtic on winning the SPL, although I don't think anybody would have expected it to take until 4 games left at the end of the season. Strange that our one-sided league is decided almost at the same time as that competitive league south of the border!

Celtic unfortunately ruined any neutral goodwill by wearing t-shirts that had a dig at a 3rd division side, it seems they are a bit obsessed.

Meanwhile at the other end of the table, looks like St Mirren should just about hang on and Dundee go down, but stranger things have happened!

It's quite funny to read about Celtic's title win. Words like "achievement" and "triumph" seem an odd way to describe the most uncompetitive league campaign I've ever seen in my lifetime. The other clubs never had a hope in hell...

Though, as you say Fuzzy, it did take them all the way until the end of April to clinch. Still, that may be at least partially explained by Celtic having the luxury of focusing on Europe, secure in the knowledge that losing the league was almost impossible regardless of the number of times they rested players for Europe. They dropped points as a result, but it merely delayed the inevitable. And it is lame to see them taunting Rangers, but that's hardly new in football. Man Utd's fans did the same to Liverpool two season ago.
