Congrats on Koren Jaffa. :) He's a solid player.

Liverpool to face Scottish third-place SPL contenders Hearts in the Europa League. Ah, those glamorous European nights...

I'm sure there are some of us hoping he might ;)

Do you think he's championship level? If not, perhaps a return to the MLS may be the best thing, for now at least.

I deliberately set that one up for someone to finish. ;)

My knowledge of the Championship is not encyclopedic, but based on what I've seen I'd say Rogers could potentially be a starter for a lower half Championship side. He's good enough to play in MLS and flit around the fringes of the USA national team for less important matches but he's definitely failed to fulfill his early Stewart Holden-levels of potential.

I think an MLS career would be more comfortable for him because in England he'd probably end up a journeyman.

Not so excellent news for the Glazers, as there's not much trading going on...

Heh. :D

Well, it seems "hobbits" (pardon) do "fly" easily, when touched. ;) I actually wonder how good they keep standing in some situations and in others were they fall, they do not even complain and get up quickly to be of help in the game.

One wonderful thing about the women's game is the lack of diving. Even when they get tackled, the players are more likely to get up and get on with things rather than do a Sergio Busquets impression. There is less cheating overall in the women's game, though the quality of reffing is also lower.

I would gladly watch the US-national team against a MLS, Premier League, Bundesliga team or something like that. Have there been Test games? Here in Germany they do only test against under-16 teams (were they loose arround 0:3) and the Women's Bundesliga do test against Kreisliga (losses of 2:11 seem not uncommon).

Is US men's football at the same level of quality as in Europe? What I got from German media, it is always pictured as not, while US-women's football is more common in the US and that it is seen as a typical highschool sport for girls there. Sorry, if that question sounds to stereotype and narrowminded.

I've never heard of the women playing a men's team, though it may have happened at some point. US women's football has definitely seen more development here than in most nations, and as a result our team and program is currently the best. But other nations are working hard to catch up, so I don't know how long this dominance will last.

If by "US men's football" you mean our national team, I'd say yes, we can play in Europe without disgracing ourselves - but we're not on the same level as the football powers such as Germany, Italy, Spain, France, the Netherlands etc etc. We're currently ranked 34th or something like that - I think 20th would perhaps be more accurate. So a good team but not a great one.

If by "US men's football" you mean MLS, I would say the league is still in its infancy. However, it is rapidly improving and I can see the day when it will become roughly equivalent to, say, Ligue 1. And some day in the more distant future it may even grow to compete directly with the top European leagues. It also has a certain Latin American flavor to it due to the many Latino players in MLS who come from Central and South America (as well as Mexico). But at the moment it is a weaker league than the top European leagues. It's roughly a second-tier league by European standards

EDIT: Speaking of journeymen, Craig Bellamy has left Liverpool for Cardiff after a reasonably fruitful second spell. So we're back to three strikers with Carroll, Suarez and Borini.

EDIT2: And Liverpool have officially signed Joe Allen from Swansea. It will be interesting to see how this affects Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson in the pecking order.

Juve's coach gets hammered with a 10 month ban. *sigh* what are these idiots doing...all because of money. Honestly.

Mancini is sulking because City have been quiet in the transfer market thus far. City also a turned down a £40m bid from PSG for Balotelli after he (Manc) threatened to quit.

Almunia and Vela exit the Emirates permanently. Will RVP and/or Song be next i wonder. Apparently the Sahin deal will only happen if Song exits. I'd keep Song if i were Wenger.

That's the spirit, starting the season full of optimism. :D
It's the only way to be. :D

Incidentally, proper teams kick off today but the Premier League don't get their backsides into gear for another week. That means that if you fancy entering this season's MacRumors Fantasy Football League but haven't signed up yet, time is running out.

That's right, Sir Alex – there's not long left to go!

Speaking about the mesmerizing MacRumors Fantasy Football League, Jaffa or someone else, can you please point out a good website ,besides this thread of course, about the PremierLeague? I feel so bad staring at the Sun..

I need much more backstage infos! :D

Hahaha just watched the Shebby Singh conference for Blackburn. Amazing stuff.

Everton sell Jack Rodwell to Man City for an undisclosed fee (although im seeing fee's rumored of 15 million pounds).

In my opinion I dont think he will get any better then he is right now, another thing that always held him back is injuries. Hopefully with that money Kenwright will let Moyes spend some of it on the summer market and not wait until the winter window.

I read that this morning and I can't figure out why he moved. It's not like he'll get a game with the midfield that City have.

I agree 100%, they already have a superstar midfield. I can only assume it was a move done to have in case a rash of injuries occur mid season. Even then I don't think it was a wise pick up with Rodwell's well known injury issues. Or maybe it was done by management to shut up Mancini about not being active in the transfer market.

If someone wants to sneak a peek into "FC Bayern - Dortmund" (last seasons winner Dortmund against the "second in every thing last season, but we still have big eggs"-Bayern):
http://www.zdf.de/ZDFmediathek/beitrag/live/1387054/Supercup-FC-Bayern---Dortmund-live?bc=lve;lv0 (if it is not offered by Sky...)

kickoff 19h British time (20h Munich time)

I hope Dortmund smashes Bayern again :)
Edit: half time - Bayern 2:0 :-( but at the moment at least I have been proven right that Bayern (and the german national team) can win matches, if you keep Gomez out. - Well, maybe Dortmund might be missing Kagawa, too.

dortmund has been quite the dissapointment so far, the workhorses Kehl and bender sure are missing and Reus can't compensate up front so far

Bayern looks a lot more dangerous with Mandzukic replacing the injured Gomez

I heard it's because he just wants to play football!

"I need to be out there on the park on a Saturday afternoon, not sitting in the stands," he said.

Wish I'd have seen this thread earlier OllyW, I'm only 10 minutes from Aldershot

Tonight the first real test of the Netherlands team since the very bad EC earlier this year. 3 lost matches

It's against Belgium which for us is always a grudge match, like Scotland Vs England.

Louis van Gaal is manager.

The Team will be: Stekelenburg; Van Rhijn, Heitinga, Mathijsen en Willems; Sneijder, De Jong en Van der Vaart; Narsingh, Huntelaar en Robben.

Sneijder is to be the captain.

Formation 4 3 3 which is what most Dutch players are used to.

No place for R v Persie, Louis van Gaal likes the work rate of Huntelaar.

I do hope that is formation will set about restoring the open and attacking style of play that the Netherlands is famous for.:)
