their whole team followed the blueprint to beat the Pats... get pressure on Brady with just the 4 down linemen, and run the ball to eat up clock and keep Brady off the field.

This is the kind of stuff that makes you sound like an over the top super homer. I'm a fan of the Pats and Brady, I think their success is impressive and well deserved. However, don't be so arrogant that you think running the ball well, getting pressure with your front four, and dominating the clock to keep the opposing offense on the sideline is a football strategy that only came about because teams were trying to find a way to stop Brady. Those schemes/strategies have been around as long as football has been around. Any team that can follow that "blueprint" well will beat almost every other team they play regardless of who the QB is.

...and there is the Romo INT everyone was waiting for. Was bound to eventually happen.

OMG so funny, I was watching the game with a group of friends yesterday and right as that drive started I said " it would be just like Romo to have this career game, and then throw an interception to give the game away in a crucial moment"

It must suck as dallas fans to always be on the bubble such a great QB that always falls apart in the clutch.

Wow, the Broncos just squeaked out a win. Have to say I was pretty nervous.

Indeed, Romo and the cowboys offense looked great but it seems Romo being Romo, he chokes when the pressure is on. He never should have thrown that ball.

The fortunate thing is that NFC east is pathetic and a 2-3 records gives you a tie for first place.

On the other notes, the Bengals exposed the Patriots weaknesses. With Miami and Buffalo really looking good, the Pats will have a harder time wining the AFC east this year.

Tony "I will break your heart into pieces, put in the freezer, freeze them, grind it down into pixy dust and then throw it over a landfill" Romo... damn you. We should of, might of, could of been a contender.
UGGHHHHH

When did I ever say this was exclusive to the Patriots? You're trying to put words in my mouth.

Yeah, getting to the QB consistently with just your DL and having a solid run game is a blueprint to beat almost any team. That's obvious. It's solid football fundamentals. But it's not the only way to win a game.

I was just pointing out that those were the keys to the Bengals victory yesterday. The Pats have a good offensive line and are usually good at defending the run, that's one of the main reasons they have been so successful the past 10 years. The Bengals did a great job yesterday of putting pressure on Brady with just their front four guys. Their cornerbacks also did a great job... I can remember like a half dozen plays where the Pats receivers had the ball in their hands and a Bengals CB knocked it out. They played well. The Bengals ate up nearly the entire 3rd quarter with 2 drives, kept Brady & the offense off the field, and they could never get anything going.

I'm not trying to pick a fight zioxide and if I took your comments wrong then I do sincerely apologize. It just seems you get into a lot of back and forth with people in this thread over the Pats and often it seems like a lot of mud slinging (on both sides) followed by some sort of comment about how the Pats are better because.... In this instance it came across as if you were saying the Pats are so much above everyone else that teams had to follow some special "blueprint" if they wanted to be able to beat Brady and the boys. Like you say there are many ways to beat an opponent, but often simply executing the basics on a more consistent basis is what ultimately makes the difference.

Personally, I just get tired of all the "my team is better than your team..." nonsense. There's nothing wrong with being a fan and it's perfectly fine to support your team, but it just seems silly when folks talk up their team by talking down another team. I appreciate you giving credit to Cincinnati. It was a tough game with lots of factors, including uncontrollable variables like the weather.

Patriots did not play well in general. Something like 1-for-12 on first downs? Not going to win many games with that stat line. But I'll reserve my true judgment for when we have healthy RBs, a healthy star TE, and some other pieces (Vereen, Slater). For now it looks very uneven with a lot of obvious holes. The defense has improved as I'd hoped, but unfortunately the offense has taken a lot (a lot) of steps back.

In other news: gauntlet thrown. The Broncos remind me of 2007 Patriotss a lot (a team which took tons of grief for "running up the score," btw). I'm of the opinion that you play to the whistle, but even I thought this was kind of unnecessary. The Jaguars suck, everyone knows it. No need to dance in their blood.

The 2013-14 NFL football season thread

What is wrong with the Falcons this year.

Defense sucks, roddy not close to 100 percent

Although their losses have been close. Last minute loss to saints and patriots, and Miami last minute score.

This.

Denver should be worried come playoff time. Where is their defense? We've seen how these super-offenses fair in the playoffs.. it's not pretty. Defense wins championships.

Wow nice win by the Jets! I knew their defense is going to give them a chance most weeks, but the offense impressed me. Geno bouncing back from that horrible game last week really shows me something about him..... And that game winning drive on the road in a hostile environment showed his poise. Great game overall and a nice showing by both teams in a spotlight game.... Matty Ice pretty much did what he usually does and put his team in a position to win, very impressive game by both teams.

Rex Ryan's post game interview was funny. He praised Matt Ryan for being an incredible QB and said he played a solid game with a 111 QB rating. Then said something like, "but how about our QB with a 140+ QB rating...."

Geno Smith and the Jets offense did a great job the entire game, but especially on that last drive. Atlanta has got to step it up if they are going to win any games this year. They had difficulty on both offense and defense last night.

I think the defense needs more help than anything, at least the offense put them in position to win the game. I know they have a lot of injuries on defense but with the saints 5-0 and the wildcard probably coming out of the NFC west they have to get it together and fast.

Gronk has apparently been cleared to return to game action this Sunday. :D

Hallelujah! Excellent timing as my Gronk jersey should be here any day now. I will light some incense at my sports altar in the hopes he stays healthy the rest of the year.:) This offense isn't the same, but with Gronk, Amendola, and healthy RBs, we have a chance.

In other news, just when you thought things couldn't get worse for Atlanta, Julio Jones may be out for the rest of the year.

Injuries suck.
