The Lions Schwartz and the Vikings Frazier for sure. Possibly Schiano, Coughlin. I was very surprised to see the Browns coach fired after only one year.

So, 6 coaches got the axe so far. When will owners realize that the most successful franchises don't fire coaches or GMs so quickly?

I don't think there's a cookie cutter answer. For instance, take Norv Turner and Jason Garrett. Norv was at San Diego for many years but was never successful at bringing that team to far into the playoffs. While Garrett is not really considered a long term coach yet, the writing is on the wall that he'll never have success at Dallas until they fire the GM. The owner playing GM just isnt' a good idea.

The best shot at success is for coaches to weather the storms of losing seasons but its also clear that in situations like the Buccaneers, you need to pull the plug. Schiano just did not have what it takes to be a successful head coach, why prolong the agony.

Actually, it is 5 coaches and 1 GM. The Vikings, Browns, Redskins, Buccaneers, & Lions fired their coaches and the Buccaneers also fired their GM.

Edit: The list I posted was just for Black Monday. The Texans fired their coach during the season.

Any guesses on who gets fired today and the next few days?
Giants Coughlin (I say he "retires")
Management wants Coughlin to go one more year to finish out his contract.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- New York Giants owner John Mara said he would like to have coach Tom Coughlin back in 2014, but nothing has been finalized.

"We still have every confidence in him," Mara said. "We do want him back as our coach in 2014."

Coughlin said Monday he wants to coach next year, and general manager Jerry Reese also wants Coughlin to return.

So you are willing to throw your franchise QB out there and have him risk a greater injury that could end his career?

I think the doctors already showed that they were going to be very careful with the decision to clear him.

Initially, everyone thought this would be a 3-4 week affair, and he was rested 7 weeks.

Not only that, those doctors (and head coach/GM) would be fired so quickly and probably banned from any sport markets if Rodger had a season-ending or even worse, a career-ending injury.

Those guys in charge are usually smart about this, after all, that's what they're getting paid so much for.

ESPN is reporting that the Buccaneers have hired Lovie Smith as their new head coach.

I saw that, and I think its a good move by the Buccaneers. So that's two teams (Texans and the Bucs) have got new head coaches.

I think the browns will have a hard time attracting some high quality coaching talent. Firing a head coach after one year is pretty dysfunctional and the Browns have a long history of dysfunction.

I also think it is a good move by the Buccaneers. I hadn't heard that the Texans got O'Brien from Penn State. I agree about the Browns. Firing a coach after just one season is pretty stupid.

Cutler just re-signed with Bears through 2020.

The Chicago Bears ended the question marks surrounding quarterback Jay Cutler.

General manager Phil Emery announced Thursday the team signed the quarterback to a seven-year deal that will keep him in Chicago through 2020.

Glad Schwartz got the ax. He seemed like a jerk to me. Now if they can cut Suh and get him bounced out of the league all will be good.

Browns surprised me too. Frazier deserved more time, imho.

Me too, I kept hearing from the team how he's such a disciplinarian, yet they have such dirty players and continually made penalties and stupid errors - not the mark of a coach who is high on discipline.

That will never happen but with the right coach, his shenanigans will stop

Browns surprised me too.
I was surprised how well the Browns did due to the injuries and yet they fired the coach after 1 year. I think because of that, Haslem will have a hard time finding a top tier coach

Frazier deserved more time, imho.
He was there for 3 years and failed more then he succeeded - he left with a record of 21-32-1. While you cannot blame him for all of their woes, you cannot fire the team and in this case I think he had adequate time.

Hey, stop jumping on the Bears, they crapped out and have to hibernate now.

But I hear there may be a few thousand tickets left for cold, cold Sunday at Lambo, you better get right on that.

The front office will make sure those tickets are gone - that will be a huge embarrassment for green bay if they're blacked out.
