Kessel - 8 years, $8 million per year extension. Thoughts?

I personally love the signing. The amount doesn't bother me as he's just entering his prime. If the Leafs lost Kessel, it would be a huge step backwards to this whole building process. He would have made more if he went to the FA market.

Me too. Kessel for the win!!!!

That Washington-Chicago game was fantastic! Patrick Kane looks poised for a huge season! Go Hawks!

All the games tonight have been pretty awesome. Pumped that hockey is back.

As a Bruins fan I quite enjoyed seeing the Habs lose at the Bell Centre on opening night. :D

Hope George Parros is okay though.. that was unfortunate injury. Never seen anything like that before.

In some ways, I think it's a bad signing. Wingers peak at 27 (he's 26 or turning 26 this year), he hasn't topped 40 goals or 90 points, and hasn't won a Cup - all things players making $8M/year currently have done.

Flip side is he's done remarkably well playing with scrubs (comparatively to those $8M/year guys - Sid, Ovi, etc.). He's nearly a point per game player in the postseason. He's by far their best talent - letting him walk would be devastating.

How about Mikhail Grabovski last night? 3 goals and an assist not a bad way to start the year. He would look pretty good lined up with Kessel.

I was hoping his mustache would have acted as an airbag. Hope he gets better soon. Unfortunate incident.

Grabo will do well with the Caps. He never really fit in with Toronto. He's a first or second line player. He also needs first line power play minutes. He'll do really well with Ovi. He won't be putting up 4 points a game though. He got pretty lucky on two of those deflections.

Mad because I can't figure out what the hell Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane will demand.

Stan Bowman will undoubtedly pay it, however.

Toews seems like he genuinely wants to play for the BlackHawks and he'll settle for a bit less if he has to to play with Kane and the Hawks.

Toews is probably the top 3 centres and top 5 players, IMO. Classy guy.

I'd wager something between 7.5-8.5/year for each assuming the cap goes up a little bit.

I think both of them will stay in Chicago, but I think Stan Bowman will need to make some moves to keep them. I am comfortable with that considering the strength in Rockford and the young age of Toews and Kane

as they say, boys will be boys (or in this case, Roy will be Roy)

BTW-does anyone here use GameCenter Live and have an AppleTV? If so, you may notice that you now have access to NHL Vault-the vintage and classic games archive on your AppleTV.

Yeah, I heard about Roy:D. I just use Leafs TV for those out of market games, but that is a cool feature to have.

The Leafs beat the Preds 4-0. Kessel, Bozak, JVR, and Lupul lit up the net for the Leafs, while Bernier got his first Shutout as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs

After such a crappy season last year it is nice to see the Avalanche off to a 5-0 start. Roy must be doing something right as the new head coach.
