he is out of his depth @ManU...

The real man who's out of his depth at United is Ed Woodward. With a shambolic transfer window, Moyes didn't get nearly enough fresh blood to work with. Then again, Moyes is the guy who keeps writing "Ashley Young" on the lineup sheet, so he must be accountable for that.

Thankfully United is finally through the really difficult part of the early schedule. With some easier (on paper, anyway) fixtures coming, time to make some changes and start looking forward. Banish Ashley Young to a desert island, or sell him to Oxford United for a packet of crisps. Play Evans and Smalling or Jones in central defense, let Vida and Rio by the cover for them instead of the other way around. Play Nani, Zaha and Kagawa more, for goodness sakes. Only bring Valencia on as a defensive substitute to see out a victory.

Read that Gianfranco Zola is a possible candidate for Sunderland. Bravo! Despite the fact that about everybody is a better choice than di Canio, I always liked Zola and found him sympathetic.

Wonder what Di Matteo's doing though, he retired?

Zola has said no. Poyet and Di Matteo short listed.

Meanwhile, we lurch into the last 16 of the League Cup for the first time in 36 years. Less 'cup run', more 'cup stumble' in these parts.

Speaking of stumbles, Liverpool seem to have a scoring problem. Suarez will need to get up to speed quickly to take pressure off Sturridge. Because I'm sure Aspas won't be lighting up the league. Not exactly a classic against Man U, but Moyes' men got the result.

Surprised no one discusses Lewandowski. He said, he will sign the contract with Bayern on January 2nd. though I think, Dortmund is on a good way building up replacements for him.

@Tweetie: DFB-Pokal, I condule you. To loose against 'Lautern makes it double pitty. But Mainz loosing against Köln is a bit worse, I think. I mean, Köln? Well, I saw two TV-shows about Stöger, he seems to be a cool guy, though.
I saw Schalke vs Darmstadt today and found Darmstad did a good job, though playing raw sometimes. Bayern against Hanover was shocking, looking at the result. - I thought Guardiola guarantees close endings with his testing sessions :)

Meanwhile women's World Cup Qualification has started, with a big bang. Germany hammered Russia down with 9:0 and Russia was considered the toughest contender in the German group.
Over the pond, there is a discussion going on about Canada planning to let play all games on artificial grass. The US-team is the strongest voice in that :)

If there is a league worse than La Liga its probably the Bundesliga. There is only one real competitor which is Bayern. I thought Dortmund had made things interesting in recent times by towing up with Bayern but alas they've become a feeder club to Bayern.

Also find it somewhat disgraceful for a player to openly declare that he will be signing for his clubs biggest rivals within 12 months. Gotze and Lewandowski have essentially slapped the clubs that raised them up in the face.

Can you actually believe that Hertha vs Lautern was my first game I've watched with my new Sky Bundesliga package? Here you go...didn't followed the Mainz game, but them losing against Köln is almost as awkward as Herha losing to Lautern..man, they literally always suck in the cup.

Well, that's a double edged sword. Dortmund was clinically dead not too long ago (~7 years probably). So losing now their best players constantly to Real Madrid (Sahin), United (Kagawa), Bayern (Götze, now Lewandowski) is proof of an extraordary well managed club. They won several titles as well. After Lewa, Gündogan will move on, then Reus and Hummels. Nothing they can do against that.

But, and this is an even better proof, they always came back stronger than before. Always forced to adjust the system for different players (Klopp and Buvac are geniusses). I'd argue that Mikitharian (?) and Abuma are fitting better into the squad than Götze did.

That said, I'd agree that the Bundesliga is a rather boring league to me too. Bayern is boring as hell and now we even have a city crowded with Dirndl and Lederhosen...disgusting. I follow Hertha and Dortmund and that's it. PL is truly the best league in the world.*

* Do I get money for saying that?

I do not think the Bundesliga La Liga worse than that. Only Bundesliga football club in terms of the level of uneven distribution. Strong still there.

The fact is that many leagues across Europe are now seen as nothing more than feeder pens for the major Leagues. Over the years this trend has just got bigger, in the 1970's and 1980's it was the Scandinavian leagues that were plucked dry.But since the early 1990's it is the turn of the BENLUX leagues to provide players for the top money clubs. France went through the same problem back in 2000's.

Within a few years there will only be a few major clubs dotted around Europe each with massive budgets, and an endless supply of foreign players.:(

The EPL is a this moment the top league by far, but that is only due to the vast amount of Foreign players. I think I am right in saying that a few years ago, Arsenal played Chelsea and the only people from the UK on the pitch were the ref and the linesmen.

twietee as for getting paid, 'I would not count on that':p

Didn't seem to me Sturridge knew where to be yesterday, he'll need to find a way to co-exist with Suarez. To be fair, Sturridge, above all other players, benefited most from Coutinho's brilliance so not a surprise he's not looking the same player without his wingman. Talented player, if he finds consistency he can really help LFC recover from this recent slump.

Typical, they sort themselves out by getting rid of deeply unpleasant and unpopular manager that the players were playing to get rid of, the week before we're due to play them. Always happens

Dont think ive posted yet this season (dang life getting in the way).

- Pleased so far with what Martinez has brought into Everton. I think they can only continue to go up from here.
-Barkley has been impressive and it shows that Moyes didnt know what to do with him.
- Baines continues to be solid as always. Hope Everton tells Man U in the January window to take a hike like they did this summer.
-Speaking of transfer window I had to laugh when Everton made United pay more for Fellaini than his initial buy out clause.
-Good to see Martinez not buckle during the transfer window to United for Baines and pretty much tell them their offer was insulting and Everton isnt going to be selling cheap.
-Not to disappointed that Everton lost to Fulham in the Capital One Cup

MLS Thoughts
- The Fire wont be making the playoffs this year, ill be surprised if they did.

Not buying Baines was a relief; the Manchester United defence doesn't need to become weaker in the air. I like him at Everton, hope he stays.

Barkley; six months/a year makes a big difference at that age - though still prone to overdo it.

Cheers,
OW

Stöger turned a defensive, horrible playing, mid table Austria Wien into a champion and now CL squad while keeping a tight budget (bought Hosiner but sold Baumgartlinger to Mainz and Junuzovic to Bremen)

for Köln his abilities seemed a perfect fit
appointing Tony Schuhmacher was their best decision since ages ... with him i'm confident that they'll make it into the first league again rather soon

I too am relieved United didn't buy Baines. He is a good player, but only a marginal improvement on Evra at this point, and he's not exactly a young, up-and-comer. I'd like to see United do a buy-and-loan-back for Luke Shaw, or a loan-with-option-to-buy for Fabio Coentrao. Sorted.

Mas Chicharito, por favor.

I don't recall it being mentioned recently, so I'll throw in a word about the current state of the Qatar World Cup project: Farce. :(

Shame on you, FIFA - For an organization characterized by corruption, greed and incompetence this affair reaches new lows in all of those areas. It's simply rotten.

He takes too many touches and/or has trouble making the right decisions at critical moments. But this may simply stem from a lack of experience. He has shown flashes of talent and, as you say, with such a young player one must be patient. He may develop quite a bit over just one season at this stage.

+100%!

Just read a small article about one death/per day.
Not sure if I'm going to watch or follow that tbh. I'm also hating the fact that our public media is shelling out tons of millions of tax money each year, actively contributing to these 'media events'.

At every turn, the prospect of the Qatar World Cup seems to worsen.

Even aside from practical concerns over playing and simply getting around the country during the summer months, there's a lot that's very, very wrong about staging the tournament there. I fear even more unpleasantness is going to come out as time goes on.

But still, those Qatari's are very rich aren't they?

Anyway, on a more positive note - Sheffield Wednesday have taken one of our players on loan, striker Matty Fryatt. He'd been out for quite a while with an achilles injury and is really in desperate need of games and goals. At his best he's a proven Championship goalscorer so hopefully he can get going again.
