Arsenal are facing the kind of injury issues that everyone assumed would eventually derail their title hopes in favor of Man City's deeper squad. It would be nice to see all the pundits proved wrong, of course. But the injury list is pretty long for the gunners right now. Much may depend on Podolski's form over the next month or so.

It will be interesting to see if Wenger makes a signing this month.

I suppose the good news is, we have Özil back, and there is a week off for potential R&R before the next game.

EDIT: Lewy has apparently signed a 5yr deal to join Bayern next summer. And they got him for free. And Bayern add salt to injury by announcing mid-season.

That just depresses me. Got to feel for Dortmund. Two of their best players off to the same rival club. Who will challenge Bayern now in Bundesliga? Starting to look like the current state of the SPL will be coming to Bundesliga.

It's a shame that Dortmund sold a few of their best players to their direct rivals. Being a one-team league is not a healthy state of affairs.

That's the magic of the FA Cup, Jaffa. Magic.

Meanwhile, we'll have to see whether Skrtel and Liverpool will repeat last year's shocker against Oldham in this FA cup grudge-rematch...

No one here will be saying that when we draw Wigan away again. It is our destiny.

Is a nice away trip to somewhere like – totally off the top of my head, here – Stevenage ever going to happen? Not like I was dreamily checking out their ground at the final whistle this afternoon to work out the best way to get there or anything though, that would be sad.

It's only about a mile from the railway station, as it turns out...

Hmm, is Stevenage that much nicer than Wigan? I speak from total ignorance of the two towns.

You Eeenglish and your conveniently-sized-for-travel country...;)

Heh - every time a cup draw comes up I hope for an interesting tie (preferably away) against a team I wouldn't normally get to see. However, we usually tend to get drawn to face a side who have been common opponents in recent years.

Stevenage would be a good tie I reckon, as we don't face them a couple of times a season, their ground is small and leafy, and the town is on the main rail route down to London so it's easy to get to. Get their ball in the fridge!

Uli Hoeness threatened that they will do everything they can to reclaim the no. 1 spot in Germany, after they were defeated in the league for two consecutive years by Dortmund.

They have/offer the most cash, the biggest sponsors, best coach, who wouldn't want to play for them?

In the long run that means that the Bundesliga teams will also have to get sponsors/investors, who dig deep in their pockets, for the teams to stay competitive. But imho that day is still far away.

Liverpool get the job done in the end, and Iago Aspas did a goal. Oldham created good chances though, it was looking rather dicey till the own goal made it 2-0. Brendan Rogers' son Anton came on as a late sub for Oldham.

Bournemouth v Burton has been postponed till the 14th due to a waterlogged pitch, so Liverpool will have to wait to see who their next opponents are.

Hull City versus Phil Brown. Subplots aplenty.

Southend's stadium looks intimate enough. You'll have to make a trip to Southend Pier...is Adventure Island open these days? :D

I hope the Bundesliga doesn't get overrun by megalomaniacal tycoon owners. There just isn't enough money sloshing around for most teams to even dream of competing with Bayern.

I've had a look at train times and stuff, but it's a moot point until we know whether the game is going to be shifted for telly coverage. Looking at the ties, I think there's a decent chance our match might be picked.

It'd be great to know what Phil Brown reckons to the draw, but I doubt he'll be doing any press in the build up to the match.

It should be a fun trip. A far cry from Wigan, eh? ;) If it makes the TV I'll have to tune in for a bit.

Another day another United defeat at Old Trafford.

Manchester United's fall is beginning to mirror that of Liverpool's in many ways. The main difference is that Liverpool's was precipitated by a change to dodgy ownership whereas United's dodgy ownership has been shielded by a brilliant manager for years. But the effect is much the same. Moyes is not as good as Ferguson - but he's better than this. He inherited a flawed squad and the transfer debacles are far from his fault alone - though Fellaini hasn't really had as much impact as Moyes hoped, I'm sure.

Maybe the fans will start turning the heat on the Glazers again.

So here's something I just came across:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...ield-Wednesday-FA-Cup-third-round-replay.html

It would seem Macclesfield are unhappy that Wednesday are only charging £10/£5 for tickets for the 3rd round replay next Monday.

Now, I can understand Macclesfield are hardly rolling in cash, but they're hardly a top team, and it's going to be a dreary Monday winter's night, so surely having tickets prices so affordable would attract more people to go and watch?

Clubs are supposed to agree prices for cup matches so I can understand Macclesfield feeling slightly aggrieved if they've not been consulted on the matter.

But that said, £10/£5 is plenty to play - keep things as affordable as possible!

reading elsewhere it seems normally Macclesfield charge £17 but for the Monday night replay they want to charge £18.

As Jaffa says, I can see why they're aggrieved at not being consulted, but surely offering tickets for £10/£5 is going to get the all important bums on seats?

I agree, they should have been consulted. But cup matches can be a way to get people into matches who otherwise might not come due to ticket prices. They are obviously desperate for the cash, but two cheap tickets make as much or more money than one expensive ticket. Plus, a full stadium brings a better atmosphere to the match.

Hoeness that dis******* ******.
I heard one fan say, that he (the fan) does not want Bayern to buy off every one that is a competition to them, because he would rather like to see interesting games than always see his team win. I doubt Hoeness thinks in that way or even understands that thinking.

Maybe it's like collecting cars fro rich people, you can't drive all at the same time, but you like to have plenty of them staying around.

A bit off-topic, but while talking about Hoeness. I found the statement of a comedian/cabaret-artist about Hoeness repenting and crying (tears) in front of the annual Bayern-member gathering. Those that do not have enough money to pay a living and get money from the state, save their money all the year to buy a Bayern ticket and then Hoeness must sit there and cry because he thinks "haha, they are so stupid, I did tax fraud and have money more than they will ever earn in 10 lifes and they still raise their arm (maybe a political cabaret hint to the Hitler salute. Creates other pictures with the corrupt Bayern people and their historic role)."
No one really talks about it, that he did self-denunciation, only because he knew the police just recently got to know about his affairs (actually thinkable someone in the Staatskanzlei warned him) and tried to lower the amount of taxes he has to pay back. Everyone is like "he is a shiny golden god, because he self-denunciated him", in fact he would have not done so, if the police did not know and perhaps never would have done.

Sorry, but I sometimes would like to puke when I think of the corrupt people Bavarians (or at least everyone, that has some - even minor - political occupation) seem to be as such; and that they even not understand what they did wrong, when employing 11 year olds as assistants in their offices. (Well, that's another story... I could go on here endlessly...)

Bayern is our Alabama, that Neil Young would say has the rest of the union to help them along.

---------- other transfers --------------

Ter Stegen anounced, he will leave Gladbach (third in the Bundesliga at the moment). Rumors say he is going to Barcelona (his club said, they do not know, but they think it is the club, everyone talks about).

Ter Stegen got very much attention when he got number 1 at Gladbach, because he seemed to be mature (or at least someone who can foresee a lot) at a young age. I find from the moment he played several times in the national team and the team lost matches arround 3-5 goals against them - some with really unlucky mistakes, some would say stupid mistakes - that must have changed something in him, because from that time on, he got worse in the Bundesliga, too. Or is it that I was just following him more.

He shed a tear, when anouncing he would leave (had been in Gladbach since his very youth), I wonder if it was all from his side, or if the club thought, we might better sell him now, where he is still thought about to be very good, than later.

As a replacement Oliver Baumann, SC Freiburg and Yann Sommer FC Basel are mentioned. I wonder why they do not use their number two...

Walcott is out for the season and the World Cup with an ACL tear.

That's pretty bad news for Arsenal and England!

Every league has that - the difference is that in Spain 2 teams do it and in England 3-4 teams do it. it's more obvious when only one team can afford to do it...you'd think it would be more logical to level the playing field by curtailing one team's spending rather than hope the remaining 19 get bought by rich Middle Easterners, but that's not how football operates these days.

Even in Spain its now 3 teams doing it. With Athletico turning out to be a revelation. Bet Falcao wish he stayed now. And with Barca and Real being weaker than former days other teams get results more often than you'd think.

But in Bundesliga Bayern everything pretty much every time. Where the fun/challenge in that. The only competition that'll test them is the CL and for that i hope they don't win it this year. Guess thats Arsenal's job to do really.

As for Walcott...

Guess its up to Gnabry and Ox now. And Townsend and Lennon for England. Wenger needs to reinforce but i empathise with him. The January window is arguably the worst window to shop in...even more so if you need supplies. Clubs smell that need and hold you to ransom.
