Good game. But Liverpool rode their luck at times with some questionable defending.

In the end, SAS saved the day.

Crazy game, poor defending from Liverpool bailed out by the strikers and a bit of luck. Stoke have been a bit of a bogey team in the last few years though, so I'll take the win.

Sterling dived for the penalty, though if you look at the play from the ref's angle I can see why the penalty was given. Wilson threw a bit of a hip in on Sterling but Raheem went down way too easily because he knew he was being closed down. Not something I want to see.

Sturridge looked good, that is very encouraging.

Cissokho had a tough day, and Toure remains nothing more than a stop-gap as far as I'm concerned. Sakho was supposed to be back for this game but still has a gammy leg apparently. I doubt we'll buy anyone in January but with Agger out for a month and Sakho still not fit today (not to mention Flanagan and Jose Enrique) Liverpool have real shortage of defenders.

Defending remains Liverpool's biggest weakness. Coutinho was quiet today, he's more talented than Henderson but perhaps less consistent; he fades in and out of games.

i'd rather be lucky than good.

liverpool will win the Prem.

Personally I don't think Liverpool are even in the conversation for the title, for two reasons: lack of depth and inferior defending. Granted, those are not insurmountable issues looking forward to next season, but as it stands this is not a title-winning side.

If Liverpool finish fourth this season, the team's fixture list for next season grows considerably. If squad depth is not substantially improved over the summer the team may find itself going backwards in the 2014-2015 season. With that being said, the club has come a long way since the end of Rafa's stint and more particularly the Dalglish v2.0 and Hodgson period.

Much of this season has come down to Suarez's incredible 21 goals in 16 matches along with Sturridge's steady production. That kind of goals-per-game ratio takes some pressure off the dodgy defense.

I still miss Xabi Alonso though. What a player he was! Of course, back when he played for us we were playing Voronin and Crouch up top...

EDIT: Meanwhile, in Italy, nineteen year-old Domenico Berardi scored four goals (a "haul"!) for Serie A minnows Sassuolo against AC Milan, ultimately winning 4-3. Milan have fallen a long way from the days when Liverpool faced them in the Champions League.

When was the last time Liverpool showed up in the Champions League? Feels like a decade..

Anfield, December 9th, 2009. The final round of group stage matches in the 2009-2010 Champions League. Liverpool are beaten 2-1 by Fiorentina and finish third in a group consisting of Fiorentina, Lyon and Debrecen. Not exactly a group of death. :roll eyes:

I remember that campaign. Liverpool looked so limp. They only managed to score five goals in that group stage: two by Yossi Benayoun and one each by Ryan Babel, Dirk Kuyt and David N'Gog.

Not a problem for Allegri to worry about any more - he's had his chair kicked.

In truth, what the team needs is a new owner and mostly a new squad. Allegri was not the problem there.

Inzaghi might be the one to take over. Another name being thrown around is Trapattoni.

Since he was spoken of some days ago. I like that 'looks like a medieval pimp' comment I read somewhere..

Poor Samir. I suppose it's cruel to riff on his pain, but that expression does suit his face admirably. That -whatever you call what he's wearing - is quite unusual as well. Medieval pimp or Sci-Fi movie extra?

8 weeks out...not that City will miss him much.

Meanwhile Defoe and Bradley sign on for Toronto.

Reminds me of the tunic worn by Davros, evil creator of the Daleks.

I've often wondered what terrible calamity wrecked Davros' body and left him confined to his life support chair, I'd never have guessed it was a Newcastle player responsible. I'd have said a freak lab accident or a wayward Lee Cattermole tackle.

In other football news, rumors abound that my own Wilmington Hammerheads will be signing a partnership agreement with Toronto FC. Quite the big splash for the Port City if true, especially given the high profile transfers Toronto's recently acquired. Big Bradley fan. Would love to see him play at Legion.

I wonder if Star Trek (the one with Kirk) took the idea from there. Though in pop culture the Star Trek life support chair seems to be better known (see South Park reference).
Do you mean Captain Pike's life support chair? The Star Trek episode that featured in will be about ten years older than Davros' first appearance in Doctor Who, although his chair is clearly based on the bottom section of a Dalek.

And yes, I really should get out more.

Wtf are you talking about? :D

Anyway, quite some discussions going on here (in Munich) why/how Ribery got cheated for the Ballon d'Or. I on the other hand applaud Cristiano: well done! And if it's only for the sore faces of my fellow citizens..;)

Good for Benteke, but I'd have preferred a Gunners cleansheet. Important win anyways.

Benteke scores! But it is for nought in the end, as Arsenal go top again. Giroud on the scoresheet as well, that will be reassuring for the gooners.

Wtf are you talking about? :D

Football, of course. :D

Ribery: Mon Dieu! Hard too see how he can feel robbed. Far less likable than even Crispy Ronaldo as far as I'm concerned anyway.

Well "good educational background" comes at a cost ;)
The Federation clearly invented the life support chair. The Daleks just stole it. :D
Imagine we had these instead of wheel chairs today :D Ridiculously looking. Imagine paralympics with life support chairs.

here you go http://www.howardandrewjones.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/pike1new.jpg

Why is it I already knew before who will win at the "FIFA Ballon d'Or 2013 "

*phew*

Why we ease off games i'll never know. Haven't they learnt from the Napoli game.

Twas a bit touch and go there in the last 10. Thankfully we have one of the best defensive partnerships in league right now.

Cazorla was awful, and Ozil as usual faded in and out. Wilshere the difference.

But job done. 3pts in the bag, and back on top we go.
