So, Arsenal progress!!! But they made it hard fro themselves. No offense to Gooners fans, but I was rooting for Wigan a bit, it would have been incredible for them to make a second consecutive FA Cup final.

Arsene can breathe easy for a moment, but he really needs this cup. Källström scored a pen, so he's good for something. ;)

That was nice to watch. :D

Bayern - BVB 0:3

Did Bayern put out a B squad? I imagine they are resting lots of players now, what with the Champions League and World Cup.

Fulham tickets for me and Mrs Jaffa arrived in this morning's post, the fact that she's making an away trip all but guarantees three points for our opponents. :p

Uh Oh. ;)

Lady Blackadder and I are heading down to Columbus next Saturday for the Crew's match against a hapless DC side. I'm expecting a big win. This time we are making reservations at a good local German restaurant we like to go to. It's so popular that we can never get a table unless we plan ahead - last time we were forced to go to an Irish pub for dinner as a plan B, and when I asked for a half-and-half they didn't know what it was (they called it a "black and tan").

German-American food > Irish-American food (which always uses beef instead of lamb).

Congrats to Arsenal for scraping through. Incidentally Everton have replaced them in the Top 4. I'd mock them about struggling against a championship side but Wigan are last years winners who have beaten City twice convincingly. So credit where its due.

Interesting to see Wenger change tactics for once by going 4-4-2. Looks to me like he's looking at the exit door but wants to secure top 4 and FA Cup first. It would be bad timing since all the prospective replacements are all busy being successful at their own clubs.

But we'll see.

Well then, will it be Hull or Sheffield.

No, they didn't. It was a demonstration actually. Dortmund rested Lewandowski though.

Lewandowski is worth too much money to risk actually playing him against Bayern.

I doubt Arsene wants to leave on a low note...and as for managers, I suspect Klopp could be convinced to leave for the right club

What do you mean by that? Because of the cup game on wednesday?

Playing Aubameyang up front was (one of a few) genuine tactical decisions. Hofmann and Durm are the next young'uns. great prospects!

Well, the cup is their chance to win something.

Doubt it. But anyway, looked cool the way they dominated them even without that worldclass striker who got lured to Bayern. And who knows, maybe Uli Hoeness bet some serious cash on BVB.... :D

*just to be clear, he did play but only the last 15min.

Klopp's name pops up often in discussions of a replacement for Arsene Wenger or David Moyes - all still pure speculation of course. What are the German press saying about his commitment to BVB? Is he staying, or will he consider offers from big clubs in England?

P.S. Do you not think they'll be able to win the cup?

He and his team are committed 100%. After June 2018 everything is possible I guess. The thing is, he fits perfectly into this club and I'm not sure his success would automatically increase exponentially when going to a tier A club. Arsenal and Utd come to my mind too. Not sure going to Arsenal is such a huge leap though. The family of my girlfriend comes from the area where Klopp grew up (know his father :D) and they all are extremely ground to earth kind of people, so as long as Dortmund is successfull (and despite many, this season is far from dissapointing) he will stay.

Sure, they could win the cup (once they entered the final of course). I just don't see that Lewa was primarily rested due to that reason. It will actually be interesting to see him playing at Munich next year. Sahin and Kagawa went when in their absolute prime and, although extremely unlucky regarding some injuries, never really convinced 100% after that. Don't think it will happen with Lewandowski too but still. Dortmund actually signed already some very interesting players (Jojic, Ramos :(, there is talk about Ginter and Drmic/Immobile) for the next season, if Gündogan is able to play football again they have a depth within the squad which is astonishing. Next title race will be much, much closer....

....hopefully.

The British media are REALLY not liking the fact that Wenger won yesterday. Calling them lucky escapists, and giving false sympathy to Wigan to further their point. Arsenal may not have been vintage, but they were still the better side overall.

Bet if it was Mou, Pellegrini or Rodgers they'd have been waxing lyrical. Unbelievable how the media have treated Wenger recently. I know the man has his flaws but steady on.

On another note looks like Kompany is fit to face Liverpool having had an injury scare.

EDIT: Liverpool on course.

EDIT2: ...and they stumble and concede 2 in quick succession. Meanwhile Sturridge is off and Aguero on.

Great game for the neutral despite Suarez having a balance issue and Clattenberg doing what all Premier League referees have done and bottled it.

I feel like I aged 10 years in the last two hours. What a match.

And the season is by no means over!

EDIT: Suarez definitely tried to work the ref and Clattenberg gave him very little all match.

Sturridge hurt, Henderson suspended. That's a big butcher's bill at this late stage in the season. I hope Sturridge just has a knock. Man City have better depth - even though they lost arguably their best player they can better afford it than Liverpool.

Liverpool just about get there in the end. But their weaknesses again came to light today. Still, well done.

Clattenberg should have given him a second yellow. That'd all he deserved.

I think the initial yellow was a tad harsh, if correct to the letter of the law.

Clattenberg is an English ref. They don't dish out penalties and fouls as easily as continental refs do, but at the same time they don't punish diving with cards either. They just wave play on.

Hart and Kompany hand Liverpool the Title; Kompany doesn't stay to keep the double for the first goal, Hart is out of position for the second - more concerned with having a shove, again - and the third :D+. Also, Manchester City's pressing/work rate seems to have dropped in the last few games.

On hands and shoving, where can I get a Skrtel Cloaking Device?

Help us Jose Mourinho, you're our only hope.

Cheers,
OW

It doesn't matter if the first yellow was harsh or not. The second should have been given.

I realize that the referee is English. I've been following the Premier League since it's inception so I know how English referees call a game. It doesn't make it right.

You need a bit of luck to win the league and Liverpool had some today. Wrestling matches in the box and Skrtel's hand of god clearance. But I won't slate Liverpool. Kompany fouled Suarez in the box too.

It's up to the ref to make the call and if he doesn't, everyone has to move on.

his emotional attachment helping his team a lot IMHO ... sure after lost games is often quite the sore loser but his mental support from the sideline can't be ignored
i like him as a tv-pundit and as Mainz coach, the guy simply lives and breathes football

as long as there isn't conflict with the club leadership i can't see him leaving currently

Schalke (up to 9) and Dortmund (up to 7) were plagued by first squad injuries this season, so i think next season going to much closer if they can prevent that happening again.
Schalkes youth stepped up his season and next year they are only to be more experienced
Also i suspect some of those squads currently drawn into the bottom of the league table might also rebound next season (hannover)

on transfers: i'm not so sure about drmic ... he played good this season but i'm not sure is good enough for the CL

At the end of the day Liverpool still have a long, long way to go and I expect Chelsea to crush our hopes. He is an appropriate villain.

Hey, you aren't going to hear any argument from me. Suarez was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Personally I don't see anything in Skrtel's supposed handball. You could argue that his hand was in an unnatural position, wrapped around Sakho's head, but for me there's nothing in that. It would have hit one of them on the shoulder/head anyway even if his arm was down.

It was a crazy game, and it could easily have ended either way. I don't think it ended unfairly. Both teams did enough to win the game but Liverpool just edged it.

EDIT: Come on Hull! 4-2 up with half an hour to go!!!

Crazy game. Really entertaining but terrible defending all around. Disagree about Skrtel though, should definitely have been a pen imo.

Takao, I honestly know jack about Drmic. :D he's said to be good though (and one of the few affordable players - if Nürnberg's going down that is).
