It wasn't the exciting finish I'd hoped for, and the media seem to be riffing off Gerrard'd pain. But a great league result for Liverpool and one they can hopefully build on.

At the end of the day City played good football and their depth (made possible by their wealth) made the difference in the end. Even Demichelis is being celebrated now - people seem to forget that he almost singlehandedly got Man City eliminated from Europe...

So the EPL is done and dusted. One of the best seasons in recent history. Intense, competitive, twists, turns, u-turns and of course politics & drama.

Top 4 all deserving of their places. With City just edging the other 3 in the end. Pleased for Pellegrini. Quietly went about his business and got the job done albeit with some luck swinging things in his favour.

But the power is now with the blue side of Manchester.

The rest will all ask "what if...". But the EPL table never lies. Chelsea were blunt too often, Liverpool were porous too often, Arsenal were disabled too often.

Looking forward to next season. Should be a belter.

In the meantime, bring on the FA Cup, CL and WC.

Agreed. But my worry is that Chelsea and City will dominate the league for years now and we'll be back to a very predictable league table. But who knows?

Meantime, lots of football left this summer. Starting with Jaffa's big day out!!

Well done Manchester City on EPL glory, Liverpool were without a doubt the big surprise this season.

Next weekend it's Arsenal v Hull

I for one will scan the crowd for a large hat in the shape of a FA cup in black and yellow. :D

True there is that risk.

But i think Liverpool having come so close, will gain some belief. Anfield is back to being a fortress. So is the Emirates. Arsenal having led for a lengthy period will realise they have potential.
That and United will be desperate to climb back into the fold.

I suspect it will be even more competitive next season. But this transfer window will have a massive say on what happens. City however, have a huge advantage (FFP or not) in that their squad is almost complete, and that squad just won the double.

Well, you probably said the same before the beginning of this season :)

The question is of course, did Liverpool over achieve this season or not? I certainly didn't fancy them for a top 4 spot, and half expected Arsenal to be replaced by Spurs after their £100m+ spending spree.

It's hard for me to say this, but Pulis for manager of the season?

Yeah, in Europe the English haven't been doing as well, but comparing league to league, the EPL is much more entertaining.

La Liga doesn't have Sam Allardyce.:) Will the EPL be able to hang on to him? On La Liga, stumbling over the line there too; the last game week now has a league final - FC Barcelona v Atletico Madrid.

Of note today, the World Cup winning squad is announced at 14:00 BST. :D:eek:

Cheers,

Seems Liverpool are already looking to build

Would he fit into the Liverpool starting lineup?

I don't think Liverpool overachieved, but I do think that Spurs missed a big opportunity with the Bale money. Would they have finished lower under AVB? Maybe, but Sherwood isn't the answer.

Pulis should get credit but not THAT much credit. I simply can't support the Mourinho/Pulis axis of football tactics when other teams play better football and finish higher. But for relegation battles that kind of toughness is handy.

Fizzoid,

Lallana:

Doubt he'll take their level of play a step up, but it would add another capable body to the squad. Bit of an Ozil re match minutes, but it only takes a second to score.;)

---

Edit; Pulis or Pellegrini for manager of the year - maybe Moyes for services to other teams.

Edit the second:

England squad:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart (Manchester City), Ben Foster (West Bromwich Albion), Fraser Forster (Celtic).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Luke Shaw (Southampton), Chris Smalling (Manchester United).

Midfielders: Ross Barkley (Everton), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Adam Lallana (Southampton), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Raheem Sterling (Liverpool), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal).

Attackers: Rickie Lambert (Southampton), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Daniel Sturridge (Liverpool), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United).

Standby: John Ruddy (Norwich City), Jon Flanagan (Liverpool), John Stones (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Andy Carroll (West Ham United), Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC).

Lampard but no Clyne :(. Standby - Flanagan and International refs?

Cheers,

So weird to hear him talking football. Football really does unite all sorts of people.

I thought he was actually on the board of directors of NCFC.

But yeah, I always appreciated the way that football and pop culture overlapped in England. It's really not quite that way in any sport in the US.

Barkley is the only surprise for me. The rest wasn't really a surprise, and I probably agree with most of it except Milner. The phrase, 'jack of all trades...' springs to mind when describing him.

since some sources point out that this season 2 deals (going to bayer leverkusen/schalke) failed because Mainz didn't let him go i think there is some issue with the club leadership now ... he really wants to go move to a bigger club for CL games
I still don't know what to think. On one hand Tuchel said he saw no progress for the team and wanted to give them the chance to get a new impulse by a new trainer (which sounds like he cared), though I don't know if his press manager has found these words - and on the other hand, there is, that from somewhere it was said, that he didn't want to train any team in 2015 and have a free year.
But then again, if one knows, that he had talked to Schalke (who wanted him for July 2014, but Mainz said no, which might have pissed him off?) and to Leverkusen (where they didn't want him) in January (when Mainz was not doing good), it sounds, as if he does indeed want to train a team in 2015 and not have a free year.
Then again, someone might have misinterpreted the fact that Mainz said, they will not cancel his contract and this means, they will not let him coach, but also not do a contract with another team. And they said they will let him have a undpayed holiday for the next season. Other people have mentioned, that this might not be possible and Mainz would have to pay two coaches, because they can't tell him to get no money, if he is still under contract, if he stays at home. Then I think that, if the contract is kept, he can't just say I don't go to work.
Then there are those that say Tuchel is now speculating on not having a team, when Löw fails and 2015 they will search for a new national team coach. While I can't believe that, because I can hardly imagine how they would first think of Tuchel.

I think Tuchel would have been a interesting fit for Schalke, better then Leverkusen. On the other hand, if one sees how Keller did, it is more fair to keep Keller.

I can understand, that Tuchel wants to progress in his career, that is his right, but then it doesn't fit, that he later said, he didn't want to coach any team in 2015.

Apart from that, there is an interesting side note: 3rd league club Wehen Wiesbaden has got a DFB-Pokal starter place. They are a historic local rival of Mainz, when both were still in the same league many years ago (Frankfurt has taken there place as a local rival in the last years). Only the river devides Mainz from Wiesbaden.

I am looking forward for the Relegation of Greuther Fürth vs Hamburg soon.

On the tip game by Lidl I talked about: the tip closes on 24th of Mai on 23:59 o'clock. So, I can wait for the Poland friendly to be over and if there will leak some information, to pick the final WC-squad. :D Winning chances are very low, though considering the task.

From what I've seen, Milner has played well this season. Handy to have as a sub at the least. Of course, I might have seen his best performances.

Roy must think England will get through to the knockout phase; late in extra time, penalties on the cards, bring on Lampard. Any other reason? Not cover for Gerrard, and there is plenty in attack.

Right back cover? Playing Smalling or Jones there does nothing for Manchester United, same for England, and the players are judged as right backs rather than centres out of position.

Anyway, it will be painful but quick.:)
