I honestly have never watched women's football ... Other than when I was younger and supporting friends in middle school or high school
Yes, usually the matches are only attractive enough, when played on international level in tournaments (friendlies tend to be less attractive as well; Japan, which is usually top in tournaments always plays boring, when there's nothing to win. GER, FRA, USA are good to watch at friendlies, though) or the half-final and final of the champions league. That said, the German women's league is considered the best women's league in the world (this was actually a commercial by Eurosport, but there is a bit truth to it), though you still see a quality difference to national team matches.

Of the league match I posted, I saw only from minute 58 on and that wasn't attractive. Also Frankfurt was once better, now the only safe bet to get a good match is to watch when Wolfsburg plays against Potsdam (it is what Bayern vs Dortmund is for mens league), once Frankfurt was Potsdams rival. Sorry, all the names and they actually make no sense to anyone, of course. :)

MLS Cup [League] Final LA 2-1 New England

LA Galaxy win their fifth MLS title, continuing their run as MLS's favored son (they got to have the final in their own stadium). Robbie Keane scored the winner in Landon Donovan's final (?) game of football.

Columbus got knocked out of the playoffs by New England, so it was good to see that they were no mugs and payed a good game.

Oh dear. Is this what it has come to.

Meanwhile, United can only use their £265k/week man for 20mins.

Also, FA Cup 3rd round draw...

Arsenal v Hull
AFC Wimbledon v Liverpool
Chelsea v Watford
Manchester City v Sheffield Wednesday
Accrington or Yeovil v Manchester United

Carragher lambasts Mertesacker on MNF. I have to agree with him. Ever since Per won the WC he's been on a beach somewhere mentally.

Pretty incredible. I don't even recall Roy Hodgson getting that kind of abuse at Liverpool. Some nasty signs in the stadium, but this is new level.

Disgraceful really. Fine if you don't approve of the guy but to boo and shout at him at a train station is classless.

Dortmund are in the bottom region of the Bundesliga table and their fans are sticking by the coach and his players. Rangers have tumbled into lower divisions but fans still fill the stadiums.

People were shouting Pardew out and now they're all smiling and enjoying the results the same manager has brought them

Yes some Managers need to be let go but more often than not sackings do more harm than good.

Anyway, in other news, are United lucky or what. Outplayed against Arsenal, Stoke, and now S'oton but still did the smash and grab in all those matches. LvG must have a leprechaun hidden somewhere.

Will LFC manage a result against a now confident United side i wonder...

Results are all that matter. If LvG wins matches and finishes fourth everyone will be going on about it being more or less the way things should be, "the United Way" etc etc. Still there is a lot of season left, lots of time for teams to rise and fall.

I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if United beat Liverpool home and away. Liverpool have a weak defense and can't score goals. United score goals and have a weak defense. But they score goals. If Sturridge was healthy and scoring regularly, or if the Balotelli gamble had paid off, things might be different.

Liverpool unfortunately come up short. But they can't have too many complaints. Crumbled under pressure. Rodgers still has a lot of work to do. His signings have failed him. Now he has to move them on and replace them whilst trying to get a run of results in. Good luck Brendan.

Arsenal's Anderlecht capitulation has proven mighty costly. Expect them to draw a big gun and get knocked out. Probably a blessing in disguise, since they can't win the trophy anyway...might as well put them out of their misery early so they can focus resources on a 4th place finish.

Aguero out for 6 weeks, which puts a massive dent in their title charge.

Basel are a good team. Better than Liverpool, so I have no complaints. If Balotelli was a Rogers signing I think he'd be gone by now - I'm guessing it was a committee effort. Besides, I still think it was a worthy gamble. Rogers' biggest problem in my eyes has been a consistent inability to get the defense sorted out. Liverpool need to be a lot tougher defensively.

Chelsea have already pretty much won the league, but the Aguero injury seals it. Barring a big collapse Mourinho will be looking awfully smug in May.

How many injuries have Chelsea had? One, to a fringe player. Take out Matic, Terry and Cahill for a month or more? Of course, they will now go and beat Sporting with the tea ladies.

Manchester United and Southampton were both garbage, just the latter didn't stink as much. Hopefully a week and a bit is enough to rid the system of the Christmas party - busy schedule, let the players have a piss up.

Some rockets by Arsenal last night.

Cheers,
OW

after reading some articles online its obvious that many football reporters have secret crush on Steven Gerrard or Liverpool ;)

Basel clearly were the better team for the first 80 minutes. The first half was nothing short of disgraceful. Not only for liverpool but for any home team.

Until the free kick goal Gerrard had one shocking misplaced pass after another and yet some still praise him. 3 Hollywood long range passes in 10 minutes and good freekick is obviously enough.
A more efficient team would have punished all those midfield errors ruthlessly.

Dat Ramsey goal tho.

The reactions from Sanogoal and Szcz make it even better.

13pts and its still not enough. I mean how's your luck really. Chelsea qualify comfortably with 11pts. Shame we couldn't pull it off, but damage done against Anderlecht. Oh well...

I'll take Monaco or Porto but i know thats not gonna happen.

I wish we weren't so predictable in our EPL/CL campaigns but i still have to agree with Lineker.

Anyway, bring on the Toons

Injuries will hurt Chelsea less than most teams; Mou's style is so negative, losing "big" players will probably hurt them offensively but no team is better at shutting up shop and grinding out narrow results. They'll just win 1-0 instead of 3-0. They may not actually win the league but they are clearly ahead of City in the race and miles in front of the rest of the league right now.

Luckily I'm extremely busy with work these days, I'm not going to have time to watch or dwell on Man Utd 3-0 Liverpool this weekend. Wake me in January to see if anyone is bought or sold.

City get the job done after riding an early onslaught. Gervinho showing why Wenger sold him. Lots of promising slaloms but inconsistent finishing. As a result his side have been knocked out.

Thank you muchly for the 3pts. Newcastle clearly missing Taylor and Cissokho. But good performance on our end, topped with sublime goals. Glad there's a week-long rest before we head to Anfield.

Giroud finally a good performance now since he is back. Welbeck still needs to learn how to play with his teammates. Always missing key passes behind a player.

Yea should've peeled away so Sanchez could feed him but was too narrow. Oh well...at least he got us a pen.

United must've sacrificed to the gods of football. People just can't score against them.

But on another note they're making a strong case for finishing 3rd. Only 8pts off the summit. Would laugh so hard if they go on to win the title.

Although 2nd goal was offside, Liverpool once again only have themselves to blame. Pressure mounts further on Brendan.
