Today match at Anfield was one of the very few times I would argue that those half-and-half scarves might actually seem appropriate.

Both teams really went for it. Some bad defending (poor old Sakho all over the shop...and after such a good performance in the first leg too...) but also really good goals. Dortmund did everything they had to do in the first half, but then perhaps became a bit too cautious later on...still who could have expected Liverpool to score four? Not me, that's for sure.

Origi has come up big a few times when we needed a goal - doing, in short, what Liverpool hoped Benteke would be doing by now.

Great game. Liverpool are a great side when their spirits are up. To come back from two goals behind twice against Dortmund is amazing. I wonder why Klopp was not animated after the winning goal went in.

How do those words taste? :)

There is a misconception that having to eat one's own words is a bitter experience. Today, I find them sweet. ;)

Still, it's only one win and a labored one (albeit against high-quality opponents). Liverpool have a long way to go yet in the Europa League.

If Liverpool win the Europa League, and Man City win the CL (LOL) and finish fifth in the league, fourth place becomes a Europa league spot...now THAT would be a dramatic twist to the end of the season.

By the way, massive credit to the Dortmund fans who impeccably observed the minute's silence before the match at Anfield. Great sportsmanship, they were absolute models of away support.

EDIT: More bad injury news for Liverpool. Emre Can out 4-6 weeks with ankle ligament damage. He'll miss the rest of the season - but more importantly he will probably miss the rest of the Europa League and even if Liverpool make the final and he is able to play he won't be match fit.

Lucas is a solid player in the same position, but Can has developed into the first choice at holding mid.

Both Newcastle and Sunderland with big 3-0 wins today. If either survive relegation it will serve only to prolong the misery of their fans under ownership regimes that are greedy and/or incompetent. I still want both to go down, but Norwich is not really making a convincing push for survival at the moment.

Broadly speaking, I'm in agreement with you. For a change, the competitions at both the top and the bottom of the table are going to be of absorbing interest.

Granted, survival, and self-interest kicked in, but I would not have expected either Newcastle, or Sunderland - let alone both on the same day - to win with the sort of comfortable margin that 3-0 suggests. And, not at this end of the season, either.

Mind you, on performances to date, neither deserve to stay up, but self-preservation is a powerful motivator to dramatically improved performances.

That cushion that Norwich had enjoyed looks a little more precarious, now.

Newcastle deserve to go down because of their fans. They seem to believe they are a big club.

They are a big club; and while they may have delusions of grandeur concerning where the club ought to be, it cannot be denied that Newcastle is a genuine city.

They are, which part of england are you from

Agreed.

Good match at Leicester, a massive draw for them after a worrying last 10 mins.

I am annoyed with myself for caring so much about this, - most years, I consult the table - and examine the stats in detail as I would election returns a few times a season, to get a sense of what is happening, and keep a vaguely interested eye on things, but this season, for the first time since I was a kid, I am emotionally engaged, and I really would like to see Leicester win the title.

Massive draw, agreed: Their esprit de corps, fighting spirit and resilience are impressive.

I'm reluctant to say I want Man City or Atleti to win the CL, but either of those would be preferable to the monotony of a Real or Bayern neither is the best team oft in the competition, though I think Atleti has a chance because of their Chelsea-style negative approach.

I am strongly rooting for FC Bayern München. They are not at their best, granted, but neither are Real Madrid or Man City. As it is, we got the most challenging pairing for the semis. If Bayern can pull it off against Atletico, then they can absolutely get the trophy.

That's my wish, however, my gut tells me that Atletico will go through instead, unfortunately.

As a whole, I feel that German football is still not getting the attention it deserves. And it's not only Bayern. There are a few teams now that can compete on a European level. The CL in particular has shown that this year. So, what better way to "hammer it" into people's heads that German football (Bundesliga as a whole) is to be taken seriously by bringing home the trophy. :D And, aside from Bayern München, it'd be nice to demonstrate (much like Leicester) that teams (even leagues) with a far smaller budget and relatively unknown names can pull it off on an international level, too.

If Bayern doesn't make it, I want Atletico to take away the win.
