You're right, football's boring, it'll never take off let alone be the worlds most popular sport. I mean, it couldn't last, could it?

They'd never actually be footballs older than the US would there?

"15 min periods will allow for team adjustments such as multi-player formation changes when one team has offence with the soccer."

Well it would certainly allow for a complete desinterest on my part. They should leave stuff like that to American Football - which I think is a snorefest to watch but hey, to each their own. And I fail to see what Fifa's corruption has to do with it. If anything you can see how strong it is worldwide despite those criminals.

Also, it helps if you played yourself once in a time. Makes you understand what's happening on the pitch a bit better - not that it's extremely sophisticated either way - but most sports do have that in common. Also 0:0 isn't per se a boring match - that'd be a rather limited and ignorand view. And for what it's worth: the most boring part in football are penalty shoot-outs since they represent the absolute minimum of skill, (group-) tactics and athletics and the maximum of luck. Not my thing but again: to each their own.

Maybe you should just stop watching football / soccer altogether? Ever thought about that? ;)

Sadly I missed the Italy game. I'll catch the highlights later.
Now though we have the main event, England v Iceland.
Come on England. No disrespect to Iceland, but we should win this easily. Just hope we show our talent.

Big win for Italy, they look more like a contender than I thought at the start of the tournament.

Huh? I thought they looked extremely leathal vs Belgium..

Or do you mean pre day 1? I thought the same then. Love how they are almost always are able to dismantle any poweful opponent by intelligent tactics and great team effort. No matter the age. :D

Will be great playing against them - we want revanche!

Tv off. Can't watch the analysis and celebrations.
I'm boycotting Iceland forever!

We were terrible. No ideas, no ability to change it up.
Rashford coming on for 5 minutes probably the brightest moment. Such a shambles.

Bravo, Iceland, indeed. They played to their strengths, and as a team.

Remind me, again, of that graceless remark from Cristiano Ronaldo about them?

Mind you, my masochist within was half hoping for torture and death by penalties, but, perhaps, it was just as well that this didn't happen.

Don't think my nerves could have taken penalties.
But let's be honest Iceland knew there game plan and stuck to it. We just didn't have the skill or the ideas to get through the wall.
Hope they go on to win it (but rather suspect they won't get past France).

Iceland played their hearts out on both sides of the ball. Solid defending, committed attacking until the end. Just a marvelous display of gritty, down to earth soccer.

One of the US commentators said something to the effect of "it's like all the English players decided to have the worst games of their career tonight."

I'm glad that it didn't go to PKs, having seen what that did to Argentina last night. I think it would have been a much worse way for England to bow out.

Actually it would have been a travesty if we had gone through on pens. We don't deserve to be there.

Yes, I would like to see Iceland do well and progress still further.

Iceland splayed superbly and to their strengths.

They were deserved winners.

Agreed.

Agreed, I just think it would have been harder on the players. Messi was absolutely crushed last night and I hat to see anyone in that position.

EDIT: Hodgson has resigned.

B

Yes, I saw that.

There have been so many resignations this week (in other spheres) that this will struggle to receive the sort of coverage that, in other times, it might have merited.

Good. Need fresh ideas.

Not Mr Hodgson's fault if some exceedingly well paid individuals cannot inject pride and commitment to their game.
