The impending defeat to Iceland on penalties?

This would be too sickeningly.........funny, actually.

Were such an outcome to occur, I confess I would be a little conflicted: There is a part of me that would watch with transfixed horror, but my inner self would be busily stuffing a fist in my mouth to stifle the unwelcome sound of snorted laughter that might escape.

Well, Iceland have defended quite well, and England can't score against teams that set out to defend

And we all know what happens to England when it goes to penalties!

If I were Iceland's manager, I know what my strategy would be :)

As the office Fulham fan was saying, If Roy's plan A doesn't work, there is no plan B, just desperation

should have sent Carol & Townsend.

Carol can't even get a regular starting place in the West Ham line up (and not through injuries for a change!)

If Iceland sit back and let us have all the possession in the centre of the pitch like Slovakia did, we will struggle to create.
If it goes to penalties, I can just hear Roy explaining why we didn't practise them!

doesnt matter we need some one as a plan B in the last 10 mins, skytrl dominated all of our players at set pieces

Currently watching Croatia v Portugal.
This one has penalties written all over it.

But if it does, will Ronaldo be hero or villain?
Come on Croatia.
[doublepost=1466890072][/doublepost]So much for the penalties. Portugal have just scored with 3 minutes left.

Most boring game of the Euros so far for me. Neither team seemed to want to take any risks.

By contrast, USA Colombia has been quite enjoyable. As a American with roots in Colombia, I'd be happy for eithe team to take it.

Colombia were the better team, but their goal was ugly and a bit lucky; USA had enough chances to win the game or at least send it to penalties and did not take them. Overall it was not a bad performance but it also demonstrated USA's shortcomings - unable to control the play against more technical sides and part from Dempsey a lack of players who can convert scoring opportunities.

By every metric it was a fairly even game, unlike the Argentina game.

The US defense was caught with poor shape for the goal. Cameron was too deep, had to push up and could not recover.

Our lack of roster depth was also apparent. With Brooks and Johnson out, the best we can do is Besler and Orozco?

By the time subs were due, I couldn't name anyone on the bench I wanted in besides the two that went in.

Personally I think that Klinsmann should have thrown numbers up by replacing Orozco instead of Bradley for Nagbe. Play 3 in the back push forward.

Bright spots, I think Jones continued to show why he's a starter on this team despite his age. [We need more depth for Bradley and Jones that aren't veterans like Beckerman and Zusi!] I like Howard's style better than Guzan's so it was good to see him back.

Gah! PKs again.

Not the world's prettiest game, but exciting to say the least.

EDIT: Heartbreak for Argentina yet again. Can't believe it was Messi who screwed it up. :(

I like the idea of just penalties. Just imagine how many commercial breaks you could have! You could watch 1 penalty, then have a 10 minute ad break. You could easily drag out a penalty shootout over 90 minutes!

 all sport is pointless.

Much like his comments...

Why stop there? I presume that the TV coverage would start commercials as soon as the kick is taken and only reveal whether it went in or not after the break from your sponsors. The ultimate cliffhanger!

Seriously, at least they had 30 minutes of extra time, the lack of it in earlier stages in Copa play seemed almost like going straight from the match to kicking each other in the nuts.

Oh yes, I'd love football to be ripped apart so that the entertainment crew can have some good 60mins with four commercial breaks inbetween. Sounds like a winner to me.

Zero-zero snore fests are not entertainment. If there are no scores during regulation play then it's a waste of time. Continuing down the current path will lead to soccer ball's demise. 15 min periods will allow for team adjustments such as multi-player formation changes when one team has offence with the soccer.
