England...wow. They have been far, far less than the sum of their parts in this tournament.

Did they learn nothing from this year's EPL season? Hard work and team spirit can take you a long way.

Hodgson: "I'm comfortable that, whatever way we want to play, we'll be covered. Systems wins you nothing. Football players win you games."

Same goes for Italy today. When you build your squad around guys who play 40+ games together per year for Juve and Italy it really pays off when you need it to.

lol @ ARG.

Messi will be back for the WC.

3 final game losses in a row, i doubt it. i think he is telling the truth

If you do away with the regulation 120 minutes and simply go to penalty tries then it makes soccer ball much more entertaining. Otherwise, no wonder it's a pointless sport.

You do know this is a football thread rite???

Well, the way we went out I got wrong, but the result was the same...

Can't say I'm surprised really, we were pegged back to a draw by a woeful Russian side, and couldn't break down a Slovakian side that wasn't really interested in going forward.

The writing was on the wall really. Roy never figured out his best side/formation, the defence was always going to be a weak point, the obsession with Henderson & Wilshere, Kane looked tired, Strurridge on the wing, Vardy not fitting in to the England style of play, Stirling just under-performing (again), the list goes on...

Apparently Rashford dribbled past more players in 4 minutes than any other England player all night

It's not impossible, but I think it would take a lot for him to return. Depends a lot on who is coaching ARG and how things are with the AFA and the fans in Argentina.

They stand to lose the entire core of their team as several other players are saying they will leave if Messi does (Aguero, Di Maria, Mascherano, ...)

Rashford was a bright spot in an otherwise dull performance.

It remains a mystery why Rashford was brought in soo damn late to the game. No hard feelings, I was rooting for Iceland anyway so that was a good thing. Still makes you shake your head.

And Wilshere, not sure if he was once to often injured in his career but 2-3 years ago I thought he was going to be a really great player - but he went down hard eversince.

Anyway, England has a young and very promising team after all which can be build on. Goalies though...still not your strong side to put it mildly. Until you get that position fixed you'll never compete for the top spots - far to important in modern systems.

The FA should fire itself for keeping Roy in charge after a dissatisfied World Cup. He was never a world class manger

i think he is pouting like a baby right now. when the WC rolls around he will back.

Same old england, piss it to the tournament ( remember when we were in a qualifying group with germany )
As soon as we get to the tournament we either get it totally or mostly wrong, wales in their first euro get 6 points.

This tournament has been abit dull because the stars have shined but now its starting to heat up, hard working Teams are beating flair players.

what was amazing was how scared england got after the equaliser, I believe they would have put up a better show being the underdog against germany if we had finished 3rd in the group, they just cant handle the pressure.

and its like this every tournament.

Cheering Wales on as England are long gone, plus it's been my country of residence for the past 15 years. Good game so far, Wales just need to keep the momentum of the first half going into the second.

Wow! Robson-Kanu. Goal of the tournament for me. Created that space so well! Go Wales.

Only you can decide if you wish to support them. My wife and 2 daughters are Welsh so if I don't support them I'm in big trouble lol.

2-1 Wales!!
Well mostly Germany, but only so I can pick up the sweepstake money at work!
Great goal though wasn't it?

Yes, Wales leading 2-1; very good match, and Belgium will have to prove that they deserve their ranking and stellar reputation by coming out to play.

(They missed an absolute sitter a few minutes ago).
