At one level, I agree, but at another, I think that they are a test of a different kind, a test of individual mental strength, one where you are no longer protected by the team, there is nowhere to go missing, games of hide and seek cannot be sought out, for this is a test of an individual's mental strength and physical skill and psychological toughness.
As a footballer, this is the ultimate test; can you place that ball accurately, boot it or stroke it with sufficient strength behind your strike, with enough insight to bluff or defeat or read the intentions of the goalkeeper, to score for your team with the eyes of the world on you?
Given their last few performances, I thought much of the same. That Denmark would be swept up as an easy win.Frankly, I would have thought that Croatia should have put away Denmark without too much trouble. Well, well.
This is the most fun in football.
The Danes have been the better team today (if only by a little bit); if Croatia win Denmark will be within their rights to feel a little robbed.
Robbed, why?
Denmark weren't robbed, they robbed themselves if anything.
True, although in a close game, if there are some questionable penalty calls one could claim they were robbed.I’ve seen this type of statement twice now and it’s baffling.
It’s a competition, so who else can be blamed in a loss besides yourself?
Getting ready for a cracking MEX / BRA match. A pity I'll have to miss the first half, though. I expect Brazil will just edge it, but Mexico has to put their poor second half against Sweden behind them very quickly if they want to hang in this one.
Mexico abandoned what made them successful against Germany and Japan, or simply couldn't keep up the pace.
Ochoa always seems to have big World Cups, but has only played at small clubs. Seems strange. Lozano should definitely be moving up to a bigger club shortly.

Some bars in Brazil give free drinks each time Neymar dives.
