Still 1 a piece in our game.

As for Arsenal I'll not mention the scorline so as to not upset @Scepticalscribe!

Thank you for your kind consideration.

When last I looked in (and it is - well, not exhausting, but actually refreshingly normal - to be able to look in on such things in 'real time', normal time, not in the small hours when one is elsewhere - an elsewhere that is several hours ahead of GMT) it was one-all at half time.

I shrugged. Arsenal being Arsenal.

I have books to read, wine to drink, music to listen to, sleep to catch up on.

And then - prompted by @Apple fanboy's concern for my well-being - I revisited the reports of the scores.

Oh dear. Arsenal being very much Arsenal. Sigh.

I remember my unruffled emotions during a certain unforgettable year; my memory is of a quiet, relaxed, comfortable - almost a complacent enjoyment - a relished appreciation - of Arsenal's polished, assured, professional, performances during that wonderful year of The Invincibles - hardly looking up from grading student papers as yet another reassuringly effortless victory was declared; Decent Brother was studying to qualify as a solicitor and we lived together with an easy equanimity for a few years.

One shrugged with complacent satisfaction as Decent Brother reported another victory - I hardly even watched the matches. Just smiled. And graded.

Ah, Arsenal.

Just spotted Gary Linker's tweet:

"See what happens @piersmorgan when you give Trump an Arsenal shirt?"

Well at least Arsenal are safe in the top eight. The rest of us are focused on the bottom three places. A good win for Swansea has boosted their chances no end.
Too close to call this year on the relegation front.

Time was we were "safe in the top four" - with the predictable regularity of a metronome, which led to entitled and moaning that we weren't winning the Premiership.

Now, frankly, this year, it seems to me that we'll do exceedingly well to make the top four, and will probably crawl or claw our way into sixth on current form.

Agreed.
Man City
Man United
Chelsea
That's your top three. Then probably Spurs next. If Kane stays fit.

Mesut Ozil signs a new 3yr deal for 350k/w....wowzers. At least he's been their best player this season i guess. But wow.

I think David Squires' cartoon nicely sums up about how I feel about Piers Stefan Pughe-Morgan and Trump.

Swansea with two big scalps in a row. They are certainly playing better than they had been, but there is no doubt that their wins had as much to do with their opponents stumbling horribly as anything else.

Man City winning
Man U and Chelsea loosing.
They are making it easy at the top.

Come on you Irons sign some players. We need bodies who can play, not fill the treatment room.

I was upset about Liverpool's recent stumble - and the FA Cup loss still has me enraged - but Chelsea and Man Utd are suffering the same January slump, it seems.

Read this on Sky sports

It looks like it has been a wasted trip to London for Amadou - unless West Ham come back in with a very, very late offer.

One source has told us that Palace have “strung out the negotiations” in order to stop West Ham signing Amadou – as payback for West Ham beating Palace to the imminent signing of Preston striker Jordan Hugill.

That's a little juvenile!

Rumours of Mahrez refusing to play for LFC after the 4th successive window of him being shafted.

Well, he went AWOL to try and force a move, LCFC wanted decent money for him, and City said no

And why wouldn't Leicester want good money for him? In today's market, he has to be worth £60m+ doesn't he?

And if he knew how to conduct himself properly, maybe he wouldn't have got shafted?

@Fizzoid What are we, THE MASSIVE, going to about George Hirst?
Don't think they can do much. His representatives want more money than Wednesday were willing to pay, even though they offered him the best contract in Wednesday history, for anyone his age

So because of that he hasn't played, and because he isn't playing, no one wants to take a gamble and sign him

It's basically a complete mess

I'm with @Apple fanboy - quoted below: Spoiled brat - displaying bottomlessly entitled - behaviour. He is not doing himself any favours with such an immature attitude. Before Leicester signed him, he wasn't exactly all that well-known in France.

Agree absolutely.

I hate this sort of attitude. Dump him in the reserves.

Agreed.

Going on strike for a transfer is unprofessional in most cases, but I think the players are the least guilty. We should first be looking at the agents, who are parasites exploiting a broken system. We should be looking at the clubs who are suffering the consequences of their own financial doping practices. We should be looking at the leagues, FAs, and FIFA for not doing anything to effectively curb it.

It's pretty rich for Man City to balk at an inflated price in a market they played a massive role in inflating in the first place. Remember when they bought Robinho back in 2008?

The evolving impact of the Bosman rule means that pretty much every player will force a move to a bigger club if there is interest. Given how much money there is in the game, there is simply too much financial pressure on smaller clubs to constantly sell talent. I don't know how that can be reversed or even slowed down.

I get the argument about players and agents and its true, but if someone kept blocking you from a dream job i think many of us would not be happy about it. Especially after seeing your colleagues being allowed to leave on to better things. Also since when has £60m been too small for a player you got for 400k. Lei aren't winning the league again nor are they getting into the top 4 nor are they in danger of relegation. So...why the hard line. Everyone seems to think if its City they should try and fleece them. In that regard credit to City for standing their ground with Alexis and Mahrez.

I don't see how this ends well for Lei. It hasn't ended well for any club...even United with Ronaldo. People may argue that Coutinho was professional but thats probably because he had assurances the move would happen in Jan. So if anything he was just showing his prospective employers what he can do.
